Who goes #1 ? Top 3 look set but in what order ? ........Who really knows ? As a Habs Fan I would like them to choose Wright but we will see . Ottawa look set on dealing the #7 Pick for a Top 6 Forward . The other Lottery Teams from Canada are being lead by a Rookie GM ( Vancouver ) and a Veteran GM in Winnipeg in Chevaldayoff who I have No Clue how he keeps his Job ? He has more lives than Marc Bergevin .

ottawasun.com/sports/hockey/nhl/ottawa-senators/insider-trading-its-almost-time-to-see-if-canadiens-will-make-a-really-big-draft-splashBruce Garrioch The clock is ticking on NHL general managers with Round 1 of the draft set for Thursday night at the Bell Centre, and all eyes are on the home team. Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes, who has the No. 1 selection, has made no bones about the fact he’d like to get another pick in the top 10 and we’ll find out in the next few hours whether his talk will turn into action. Many believe Hughes has held several talks with New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald, who is ready, willing and able to deal the No. 2 selection, and that would give the Habs the opportunity to get two of three players they have on their radar screen in this draft. If the Devils are going to do that deal, they’ll want a player who can make an impact in return. The belief is the Devils have spoken to Montreal about winger Josh Anderson and the sense is Hughes has been quite willing to listen. He has five years left on a deal with an average annual value of $5.5 million per season and Anderson has struggled to find consistency. There was also talk making the rounds that Anderson was offered to the Senators for their No. 7 selection so there’s no shortage of chatter as the draft draws closer. Anderson, 28, had 19 goals and 32 points in 69 games with the Habs last season. He has a standard “no move” clause that allows him to submit a list of eight teams where he’ll refuse to go so that will be a factor in any discussions surrounding Anderson.

The best situation in this draft is to be picking 2nd.
Make the top pick guy decide who your pick will be. In some drafts where it's close it's better to not have to own the selection. If you pick wrong at 1 then the #2 gets a gift.
Think back to 2007 in the NBA. Greg Oden went first to Portland. Kevin Durant went 2nd to Seattle & Al Horford to Atlanta. Wasn't much thinking in picking 2nd/3rd. Biggest draft bust ever perhaps.
I think Montreal will take Wright. I think they have eyed him for a year since picking first was a possibility. It's too bad Wright lost a season to Covid. It's a shame that some analysts think he has met his ceiling for development already (actually said that).
Slafkovsky is the fastest on radar to climb to top rank since Nico Hischier. It's quite possible that if NHLers had gone to the Olympics (if covid were gone) very few would talk about Slafkovsky. Somebody is going to rush this kid to big dance too soon.
And then Logan Cooley might be the best of the bunch. If it were my team I would relish adding him. I don't think Montreal has patience but maybe they do. But Cooley-Caufield may be the best strategy IMO and I'm not a Montreal follower.

I heard a funny thing from Grant McKagg on TSN 690 yesterday, he kept saying that Wright did not impress him every time he saw him, that he didn't seem to be trying buy statistically he was the best of the three last year. Even when you factor that Slafkovsky played vs men, his numbers did not measure up to Wright(or Cooley). I think a lot of fans and TV personalities are hard on Wright because of the exceptional status and the fact that he isn't McDavid or Crosby...but his skills are legit #1 overall caliber, plus he brings a mature 2 way game, he is more mature as a player than the other two. In terms of team building, you always take the C ahead of a winger unless it's an Ovechkin or Kane, Slaf is not at that level. I hope the Habs don't make it harder than it has to be. www.tsn.ca/radio/montreal-690/miller-wright-criticism-unfair-1.1822317

I could see Josh Anderson and pick #26 being enough to get into the top 10
could you then theoretically package someone with that pick to get #2 or #3? maybe but who?
gonna be interesting to see what takes place...... i hope it's not a tradeless draft like so many recent ones have been tho

By the logic of these guys you wouldn't pick Matthews. Puljujarvi was in a battle with Laine 9 months before didn't know whom was better. At end of day Matthews was the best. Laine who also scored 3 goals in his first NHL game and immediately everyone said the Leafs picked the wrong guy... isn't as elite. The real team that did their homework were Columbus. They had Dubois at 3 and he really is the 2nd or 3rd best in that class. I had Dubois top 5 but expected him to go 7th. If Columbus had not taken him he wouldn't have gone until 7th. Another draft that boggles me is the one where Quinn Hughes went 6th. He was playing just down the road from Detroit at Michigan. Could skate like the wind. But Detroit got enamored with Zadina. I watched every junior game live with Zadina and he was fun to watch. Great kid. I would have picked Hughes before him. I really think tuning out the pundits is right. I think most GMs know it but in certain markets it's hard to do because their jobs are on the line. And I saw some good things from Shane Wright this year with Kingston. Gotta wonder if he were on a different team in the OHL would he have been getting different reviews.

Slava Malamud 🇺🇦 @slavamalamud · 4m Prediction for the Sabres three first-round picks tonight: 1) a solid locker room guy from a bluecollar family (scores 7 goals in an injury-plagued 4-year career) 2) a solid defenseman from Bald Eagle, MN (traded two years later for a 6th-round pick) 3) Ivan Foreverovich KHLov

Bruce Garrioch @sungarrioch · 39m The most active teams listening on their picks: No. 2 (New Jersey), No. 3 (Arizona Coyotes), No. 7 (Ottawa Senators) and No. 13 (New York Islanders). Lots of moving parts #Sens #nhldraft2022

Bobby Margarita @tsnbobmckenzie · 19m Anecdotally speaking, not to be confused with actual confirmed reporting that is sourced, a lot of NHL teams are convinced MTL will take 🇨🇦 C Shane Wright with No. 1 overall pick. Also anecdotal, there seems to be considerable talk about NJ possibly trading No. 2 overall.
