Players seem to have tuned out Keefe. He won't make it to Christmas if they don't turn it around quick.

This makes a lot of sense. If you're Toronto, you don't want Matthews fighting or at least very rarely, however he can't be starting "stuff" and then teammates have to come in. They won't admit it publicly, but I'm sure it irks them(teammates).

Noodles on Overdrive said guys like Matthews , MacKinnon, McDavid should use their stick as a weapon to deter people from coming after them . Sidney Crosby drops his every now and then , Marchand does , Stamkos does , Ovi does .......when they have too . Matthews is 6 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier then Konecny but don't fight him ........Hit him with the Stick and wait for somebody else to step in for you ? Which is what Matthews did .

Why should skilled guys drop their gloves? You want a 60+ goal scorer or 120+ point guy missing 8 weeks because they break their hand? What’s the benefit? The league needs these guys playing, the teams need these guys playing and not sitting on the IR because of a fight. If you’re Matthews, you’ve had shoulder and wrist issues in the past, what do you have to prove by fighting Konecny? If the Leafs do nothing, everyone will say they’re soft and don’t stick up for their teammates. If they jump in and defend their best player and one of the premier talents of the NHL, then everyone has an issue because Matthews didn’t fight his own fight. There’s no winning.

So you just made a case for "use your stick not your fists " ? Don't use your stick as a weapon if you are not gonna use your fists to defend yourself I say .

I never said you did .......I said you "made the case" for him using his stick because if someone comes after him you don't want him fighting . He is going to have to defend himself some times , it's just the way it is .

That's fine if that's your team's policy, but don't have him cross check guys and need other regular guys coming in. Have a guy or two on the roster that their main job is to make sure teams don't "abuse" your best players and be willing to take a few extra penalties for it. I think what most people had an issue with there was him "starting" some of the crap that went on and then disappearing.

Toronto Maple Leafs winger Wayne Simmonds was placed on waivers Tuesday.
Simmonds cleared waivers earlier this season, but did not report to the AHL's Toronto Marlies, instead remaining with the Maple Leafs to train.
The 34-year-old, who is signed through this season at a cap hit of $900,000, has one assist in four games this season.
