One of the kids I was excited about after the draft, feel free to go to that thread to see, Owen Beck, had apparently been great in camp. Vs NJ, he was a 73% in the faceoff circle and nearly scored his first of the preseason. This kid, imo, has a bright future for the Habs down the middle! qmjhleast.proboards.com/post/754193/thread

I am not gonna rag on the Kid but I did want Wright . The only thing that concerns me is one Poster said ....."work on his skating" ? If he is not ready ......he's not ready....OK .....You would like to think that the 1st Overall Pick would / should be but OK .....relax and wait ......but if I seen him Live and my concern was about his skating then I might worry a .......little bit .....just a wee bit .

Issue with Montreal is the fanbase eats you for dinner, if you aren't scoring 2 goals a game. Beck has been good, but he needs to develop in the OHL for another year or 2. Yet they now see him as the savior until he has a bad game and then its over....just joking but 18-19 year old players like Roy, Kidney, Mesar, Beck and Slafkovsky, are still raw and most are still developing their game. Besides Slafkovsky, the rest aren't likely physically ready to play in the NHL, so the fans need to relax and be patient.
Montreal has the right ideas under Martin St Louis, don't rush them, let them grow and develop, that's key for long term success for the team down the road.

I'm not concerned about his skating, he sakes well but adding 13lbs in the off season was likely not the best move for a hockey player, especially at 18. I think him playing 3rd line in Liga(except for playoffs), playing a year AHL or lower is best for his development. Not only that but it slows his UFA clock so you get him for another prime year as RFA instead of UFA. Very few kids are NHL ready at 18.

Unfortunately struggling teams management often want to give fans a shiny new toy to buy themselves time. Same applies for Guhle Barron Xherkaj Norlinder and Primeau on D, let them learn in the AHL. Get a veteran on waivers to eat minutes in the meantime.

watched two periods last night..... Slaf didn't stand out at all
was a very inexperienced lineup dressed but given the stacked forwards we have right now i'm inclined to agree with letting the kids develop at lower levels this year unless movement is coming

Its not about winning its more about giving your kids time so if the #5/6 D isn't a future piece necessarily it doesn't really matter. And people also need to stop viewing #1 overall through a generational lense. There's more "good but not great" #1 overalls then there is great ones. Just because 1 #1 may not be as ready as a Matthews or McDavid doesn't mean he can't develop into a star.

I think they are also talking to teams about a money in/money out type deal with a winger leaving and a d-man coming in. That might be more likely when teams are ready to cut down and maybe they have more bodies than they have room for.

Shouldn't the guys battling for playing time or a roster spot be dressing?

Suzuki Caufied Anderson Gallagher Dvorak Dadonov Druin Monahan Dach Armia Evans Pitlick Hoffman Pezzetta Byron(IR) On defense Matheson Savard Edmundson(IR?) Wideman Schuenman Then likely 3 of the following minus any waiver/trade pickups Guhle Harris Bowey Barron Leskinen Xherkaj. I expect them to add at least 1 guy with NHL experience on D, might be Joseph, Pittsburgh is rumored to have offered him and he may be on waivers this week. In nets Allen Montembault
