I really like the big dman, Arber Xhekaj.
Hopefully he can continue to improve on things that need be.
He was a beast at the Memorial Cup.....and played a lot of minutes.

Yup, has a very similar body and style to Chiarot. Built like a tank, skates pretty well and can move the puck. He has to keep an eye on his PIMs, he tends to be a bit over aggressive at times, easier to fix that than a guy who doesn't like using his size.

Also, playing against smaller/weaker/younger players didn't help that either. Like you said, he's a tank. Very strong. Doesn't take much for him to easily overpower his CHL opponents.....which would result in penalties too.

Was kinda hoping the Habs might sign PK to a one year incentive laden deal to add some veteran stability to the blueline
see today he is announcing his retirement instead

I would like to see the Habs sign Stralman to help insulate the young guys.

PK after making $9mil probably didn't view a 1 year @ league minimum as worth it vs a broadcasting gig at ESPN that probably pays 7 figures. In an uncapped world he's a decent 3rd pairing/2nd PP guy making $3 or $4mil but in a salary cap there's only so many dollars to go around so a vet like PK gets minimum offers so retirement and broadcasting makes more financial sense.

In an uncapped world a veteran defenceman might find work with a big market team more willing to spend a bit more on depth. The cap has forced all your depth to play for very low cap hits. So for some depth retirement makes more sense as playing for the minimum is playing at a loss for some guy when you add in the expenses. I think in an NHL with no cap a PK Subban plays for another year or 2. But when faced with what Giordano signed for...working for ESPN makes way more sense.

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Joel Edmundson will be out indefinitely due to a lower-body injury.
Newly-appointed team captain Nick Suzuki is also out two weeks with a lower-body injury, forward Josh Anderson is day-to-day with an upper-body injury and forward Jake Evans is also day-to-day with an upper-body injury as training camp begins.

Definitely need to move a forward for an experienced dman....... especially with Edmundson hurt yet again
I would not be shocked to see someone like Hoffman or Dvorak moved before training camp ends
would also give more cap flexibility if they can acquire smaller salary and move Price to LTIR which would then open up alot of cap flexibility in season

I would add Byron/Drouin/Armia to the list of forwards who are expendable and could be moved at any time ... you obviously aren't going to trade them all, but if anyone is interested in a couple of them I think you take any reasonable offer and move on. Out of the two you mention, and the three I added, I would be most inclined to want to keep Dvorak ... I think he is an OK option as a 2 or 3 centre (ideally 3 if Dach can win the #2 job).

Byron is hurt too isn't he? Armia i'd move in a heartbeat just don't see anyone interested in him before the start of the season... same with Drouin i could see a vet scorer and PP specialist like Hoffmann being expendable and wanted.... Dvorak i'm fine with keeping but if someone offered what we needed and we got the flexibility i'd throw him away in a heartbeat too... he's way overpaid and the last of the Bergevin mistakes ... clean slate
