Don't mind the price, we don't want to be chucking out 4ths for nothing but I think it's clear that Ruccia needs competition. Do you folks see this as a short-term fix? Or do we think Satny may stick around as a 20? I know a lot will change between now and then. Impossible to plan that far ahead with this GM. When do we hold them accountable for pissing away the Q's top Euro pick in 2022? Now we're chasing ourselves and spending assets to bring in other Euro's while at the bottom of the league. Sometimes it feels like every step forward is followed by 3 steps backwards.

Personally I feel this could go a few ways... - Ruccia gone by X-mas and a younger goalie comes in to mentor behind Satny - Ruccia gets pushed and actually starts to get back on track, thus increasing his value for a trade at the draft, where Satny could stay and mentor. - Ruccia gets pushed and really improves to the point where we hang on to him as a 19 and run him as our 20 in 24-25.
All 3 are dependent on Satny coming and playing some solid hockey and Ruccia getting back to his draft year form...yes, he was better 2 years ago.

Don't rule out Kulich just yet, he is one of the few that was worth picking who still happens to be in NA. It's easy to say we wasted our top pick, but just bringing in a Euro because he will report is even a bigger waste if you ask me. Tomov is the one guy , where I would have thrown a pick...but I have my doubts we had feet on the ground in Bulgaria so to speak.

Yeah I just revisited his moves with Bathurst for a discussion on the Titan board, and seeing that makes me realize it's pretty hard to predict anything with him. You make a good point regarding the Euro draft in general. Being realistic now we have to accept that pick is a massive wasted asset. I'm not sure it's very relevant to this move though. At the Euro draft we still had Ruccia and Delafontaine, even if we didn't take Kulich, we weren't taking a goalie. To me, this just seems like a reaction to a cold start by our #1 and our lack of an experienced #2. It's just that the move that made most sense involved Euros. To be clear - I completely agree with you about the Euro pick being very very frustrating the way it has worked out.

Exactly, only one of the top 5 picked are in the chl and it’s a 19 year old

Did we have feet on the ground anywhere? 2 years in a row we've wasted a pick. And as a player like Ivan proves...yes sometimes just getting someone willing to come over is the way to do it as you can work with someone you have but its hard to do much with guys who don't report. Is there any reason to think Kulich ends up here? We've been given zero indication which leads me to believe the team has had no discussion with Buffalo about his future. I have a hard time believing that at where we picked there wasn't any 17yr old in Europe wanting to come over to the CHL. Nobody expected them to pick the 3rd best player as if its the midget draft but yes our standards should at least be to pick someone who will report otherwise we're wasting our 2nd biggest asset as a terrible team outside of our 1st round midget pick. When you sit in the basement of the league you should criticize management over that stuff in my opinion.

Ruccia has not been able to make the starting job indisputably his, and doesn't look like he is grasping it with both hands even when it's been handed to him through unique circumstances. I think if he's gonna get there, he needs someone right on his tail pushing him for every start. Satny will do that. Ruccia isn't developing like we'd hoped. I'm not betting on him being of much value at xmas and we shouldn't sell him cheap. That's the issue with #1. #3, well I'd love that, but he's got a long way to go to be that guy. I think it's far more likely he gets shipped for something at draft or next xmas, I just hope he puts it together and we get some value for him.

But Kulich was a big swing to take at this point, for little reward. He wouldn't be here by the time we were contending, best we hope for is to trade him. We're at least two years out and were handed an opportunity to take an '05 who would be, at minimum, an impact player at the top of our cycle and just took a completely unnecessary risk with it. Your best point here is that you can only make anything out of a player who reports. It's not do-or-die time for us yet. Just get a promising player in the door and spend a couple years working on him.

For me the 2022 Euro draft was a no win situation and the critics would have found a way to rip it apart regardless of what move was made, so I like the fact we took a flyer on an elite prospect that still could report to Cape..and I have not inside knowledge, other then the fact that I could see him ending up here by X-mas and Ivan off to a contender like Sherbrooke. Drafting a 17 , 2005 born was possible, but I think that it's the move you make next year, when you have a better idea of how your current youth fair and you can then better identify the need. Drafting an 04 this year had limited value, therefore I like the idea of taking a flyer on a stud. Depending on the need if we don't bring in an impact Euro that will report next draft...I will be in your camp.
We can't get out of the basement overnight, so critizing every move seems to be more a result of years of scar tissue rather then believing it's a step in the right direction.

Yeah I see what you're saying. I follow a lot of terrible sports teams - I know how the scar tissue builds better than anyone and try my best to avoid picking at it. I think Sly has made some good moves and have said as much to be fair. I just think this one was bad. I think all I really want to see from this team is some stability. I'd try and find that '05 Euro early and get a good long look at what you have, and try to develop it. Having that player for an extra year makes a big difference. The other big difference in how we view it is that you are a lot more optimistic then I am that we ever see Kulich. I'd see very similar to you if I was hopeful he'd ever play here

I just don't see how you could slot another 05 in our line up right now, it's great to have an 05 Euro here, but where would he play while getting development minutes. We have our hands full with what we have...trying to get them 12+ mins a game while not getting blown out of the rink and losing confidence. Kulich was a long shot, but I feel it was a well calculated risk based on the current make up of our roster.
Next year we need to own the Euro draft. We will better understand the need and have a better player coming as a result.

Fair point about playing time but I think if you get the opportunity to pick that high you make moves and find a way to make it work. Someone will get less time if Kulich comes back as well. Repcik wouldn't have been here to start the year. It wouldn't have been that difficult. We could have an asset and still have the option to pick next year if it doesn't work out. I completely see what you are saying and it's 100% reasonable. But you can't do worse then turning that high pick into absolutely no assets, and that's where we are heading, which is why I don't like how it was handled. It's really just a case of preference. Like you say, if we hit on next years pick it won't really matter that much.

We're not exactly a contender here so if I swap a 19yr old like Cote for a 17yr old Euro am I really losing much? We could easily swap a Cote and Bergeron for 2 05's and probably not miss a beat from where i'm sitting.

We all agree the Nemec pick was 100% covid driven. But we should have some expectation that 3rd overall would produce a player. When we're still in the basement and things like this are hanging over the team and there's no local interest...top Euro picks not reporting doesnt help in either area. We shouldn't have to go 0 for 3 in top Euro picks before we find issue with the process though. Its too late by that time. Right now we should be critical because we're still in last place and we're literally playing with the future of the franchise by constantly dropping the ball on some of this stuff. I've said many times: When you can literally use 15 years of data to prove you're probably if not the worst among the bottom 5 CHL teams in the country and your attendance is half of what it once was....if you're critical at least you still give a shit. We used to average 3000 and now we're lucky to bring in 1500 people to a Friday night game with a promotion. If we're not criticizing them...there will soon be nobody left to do it if they don't start listening and acting on some of it.

It's not do-or-die time for us yet. Are we 100% confident in this? I'm not. Every loss right now is another step towards it. I can't be the only one completely stunned with this "#1 pick and renewed hope with a new GM and new marketing" already looking like another complete let down. There isn't 1 even little bit of buzz about this team. I'm no longer confident that just winning games sees people return. I think Bathurst is what we're following and the minute after a playoff run the apathy is going to set right back in. With nothing being done to try and change that momentum. Within the next 90 days I fully expect the people of CBRM to be put on blast by Gerard Shaw for not showing up once first half ticket numbers are there for all to see.
