Went to my first ever game yesterday against the Riptide and the thing that sticks out the most is that they play the music WAY too loud.
(Am I the old man yelling at the cloud here?)

NLL games play music to drown out the players on the floor, Sunday was by far the loudest music this year and was annoying. It was also loud few games during / after Covid because of smaller crowd. The crowd noise was much more subdued on a Sunday compared to Fri/Sat games. Even the beer sales were way down, hardly even a line up in intermissions compared to Fri/Sat when the beer is flowing!!!!
As for attendance, there are getting < 7,000 per game. The lower bowl is never full, only only a few rows in upper bowl have fans. There is easily 3,000+ difference between Mooseheads and Thunderbirds. No way in hell they've had > 9000 fans. I can guess attendance within 500 almost every time, as I've been to this rink well over 2000++ times in my life watching hockey, BB, lacrosse, concerts.
The game against riptide was one of the worst games I've seen in 2 years. Other than the few goals in a row, it wasn't anywhere near as interesting/fun to watch.
Overall though I really enjoy the games!

I always add 500ish more to the attendance cause I personally know season ticket holders, businesses and one off people who don't show up consistently . Ik a family that has 4 T-Birds season tickets and have shown up twice, its crazy.Other than a few games in the 8k-9k I don't think the Mooseheads have done that much better. Majority of the games looked pretty similar too me. The Moose have of lot well deserved hype rn but back in October and November I swear they had a couple clunkers.Where they would announce 5k-6k and 3000ish would show up.The Moose will always be more popular and profitable though. I don't see the point in the inflated numbers. Like are they counting every single person who walks through the door or something. The only the reason I could see them lying would be for businesses reasons. Its not a Halifax exclusive thing,it's an NLL thing.

Overall though I really enjoy the games! So the funny thing is I would actually love to hear the players communicating on the floor - it would add another dimension of understanding for somebody watching the sport for the first time. Hate to be cynical, but blasting music doth not an atmosphere make. If your sport is exciting and relatable (Mooseheads), or your fans are energetic and vocal (Wanderers), let your product stand on its own. That combined with the attendance fudging you're all discussing, seems a little unnecessary for a product that is clearly popular and has a lot of potential! I definitely struggled to decipher the strategy and flow of the game having no prior exposure to lacrosse. One of my favourite parts of being in the rink to watch hockey live is being able to track everything that's happening away from the puck. I found that trying to do that in lacrosse is way more difficult - as you can lose track of where the ball is really quickly (who's stick is it in!?!), and everyone is slashing/crosschecking/setting picks on each other. Controlled chaos, I'm sure - but overwhelming the first time for me. (Then again, perhaps more "normal" first timers could just enjoy the atmosphere instead of trying to dissect everything that's going on.) Other than the volume of the music I had a good time! It's a too much of a time commitment to go to games regularly while having Mooseheads season tickets - but I'd 100% go with my wife again when she gets comp'd tickets from her work.

Mooseheads do MUCH better than TBs in ticket sales and people in seats by about 3000+ each game. It's not even close! Different game, different price point and different crowd.

You can just go to Ticket Atlantic on a gameday and see the difference is sales between the two teams. TB say they have 8k when there are over 4-5k seats available in the seating map. Mooseheads will say 8k paid attendance and there really are only 2k seats available in the seating map. I'd say the Mooseheads are announcing correct sales and the TB are just making up whatever numbers they feel like on a given day. Scanned in attendance is a whole different ball game but I don't think either really card who shows up, as long as the seats are sold.

Does their CBA give them some revenue sharing if they sell between certain ticket thresholds? I guess i'm wondering if the owners are buying up tickets after the event to inflate numbers in order to get more money on the other end somewhere. Sounds ridiculous....but so is inflating attendance for no reason.

It seems pretty unprofessional for a professional league.

I may be behind on the times but didn't realize Dawson Theede of the Thunderbirds whom they got last year also plays for the Saint Mary's Huskies men's hockey team. (article says he's committed to the hockey team first and then Lacrosse, it's an old article from last March)

Still haven't been following the Thunderbirds as much as I did last year. Their better players are older and if they don't win soon, they might be headed towards a rebuild. They're currently fighting for the last playoff spot in the East and the right to a one-game playoff against Buffalo, who they have actually played quite well this year even though they lost a couple.
Thunderbirds are averaging 8,419 fans per game, which is 5th in the league out of 15 teams. Many teams' attendance numbers seem inflated so as long as Halifax is on a level playing field their attendance can be compared to other teams. They're doing well but I think they'd like to see that number higher.

(article says he's committed to the hockey team first and then Lacrosse, it's an old article from last March) Theede is completely done with SMU Hockey now so he has officially joined the Thunderbirds. Not sure if he's currently on the active roster.
