I’m not stirring the pot here because I know you were missing all your key players and I know come the end of the season the moose will be a top 5 team way ahead of the Islanders but is any fans of the Moose worried Midgley might not be the right coach? His last tenure his team underperformed and I know you were missing all key players but I found much like his last moose team he was apart of that this moose team shows very little urgency hopefully for the moose fans it’s just from the missing players

Next weekend is going to be rough against Moncton if were still missing 5 guys, and we'll be without Vidicek too.(Automatic 1 game suspension for a match penalty on a high stick last night)

Dumais with the overtime winner for Columbus in preseason vs Pittsburgh.
Getting nervous. Nice shot too.

If you listen to the commentary on the play the announcers were saying how he struggled most of the game and was getting manhandled and didn’t have good puck control. This game was mainly AHL guys too. He will need more development time in Jr and get bigger and stronger.

It sounds like Vidicek got 2 games for his high sticking penalty. See how this weekend goes. Could be an 0 and 4 start.

Any chance some of the 5 guys away at their NHL camps will be back by then??? My guess is yes. I think Rousseau, MacKinnon and Furlong all will be back and in the line-up this weekend. The players that we need back however not so sure. Cataford is injured and not sure what the status is with him. And well if you’ve been paying attention it doesn’t look like Dumais will be back until the end of training camp at the earliest or maybe a 9 game tryout?

You take a team that has lots going for it but needs help up front and is young and then remove the league MVP and 1 of only 3 19 year old forwards… The crappy part is you move into “rebuild” mode because you lose the guy that would be the biggest trade asset. But, again, this team is very young. 17.83 years old and you take three 19yo and two 18yo players off that and games 1&2 are not shocking.

I wonder if there is any threat of Dumais getting the Dobson treatment? IE: Getting a 9-game shot but having that 9 games spread out so that he's a healthy scratch just as often and is practicing with pros. He stays in Columbus until December, goes to the world juniors (unlike Dobson), and then is back in January. As a Moose fan, I'd rather him here. For his development, I wonder if that is a viable option.
The three options as I see them:
- Dumais returns: The Moose are all in. - Dumais returns but the team is too far away from contending: The Moose sell Dumais and Furlong and retool with picks/futures and go all in next season. - Dumais does not return - The Moose are in full sell mode.
All have their benefits. Option one seems like the most likely given the 30th season and all the new season ticket holders they have. But it may be the most risky, as you may be too far away from contending and force yourself into a scorched-earth rebuild. Option two seems intriguing as Dumais alone would fetch the world via trade. Futures tend to be cheap and it would be a good way to turn Dumais this season into perhaps two high-quality forwards to go with Vidicek & Cataford next season. Option three seems the least likely as Halifax has enough talent returning to either go for it this year or next year. They also don't have their 2024 1st or 2nd picks so tanking this year wouldn't be as beneficial. By the time Halifax is done contending they probably won't have their own 2025 or 2026 1st rounders either, so that may be a moot point.
Lots of options as always. Important to get the kids some ice time and get good habits going early. Weekends like last weekend are going to happen and hopefully they'll learn from their mistakes.

Dumais to a team like Rouyn for example with Zonnon as a future could be huge if having to go that route.

Let’s see if he gets the C. My bet is yes because the guy who wore it before, wasn’t waring it the 1st 2 games.
