Just want to echo Jack's point, to anyone reading from Eagles management, cost is the #1 reason I don't go to many games anymore. The price point jumps from when I was a "youth" to an "adult" was pretty extreme and it's only increasing every year. I'd consider myself someone who's firmly "middle class" as well, these games have been priced out to families who are on unemployment, minimum wage, etc. I was in for almost $100 taking my girlfriend to Tuesdays game. I have absolutely no clue if the Eagles have anyone doing analysis on price elasticity of demand but I'd recommend starting there. On to the game... I just never felt like this Eagles team had any chemistry at all, closer to a bunch of good/decent players with a junior star or two sprinkled in who largely carried games with 3/4 point nights. Hopefully Lavoie flourishes in to the #1 defenseman he was projected to be, else we're in for some more tough sledding in then next few years. I don’t really know how to say this without sounding like a complete ass and while I do agree the all in cost of a QMJHL game is pricing people out of the fold, I’m not sure it’s a Q teams responsibility to price games to a point where they’re affordable to people on unemployment/working minimum wage jobs. I personally don’t think that should be the target audience, the price point should more closely reflect the average middle class family though. That’s the bread and butter, those are the ones you want to get into the rink because I don’t see a scenario where you can price them to a point that people below that can come to the games and still turn a profit/break even at the end of the year. Now that’s obviously being said without seeing the finances of the team but if you’re trying to draw in the lowest paid people, I can’t imagine it’s going to be a long-term favourable business strategy, since we know there are a lot of costs associated with running a QMJHL franchise. One of my buddies would fit your average middle class family target you mention (Married, good job, with 3 young kids) and even he might only take his family to 3 maybe 4 games a season cause it's just not affordable enough to take them to any more than that the last couple of seasons, especially this season with inflation reeking havok on grocery bills. I agree with you for the most part it's just when even some middle class families can't justify the price for a night out at the rink anymore than maybe a couple times a year what are we doing here.

Most (not all) middle class families attending the games are usually attending on comp tickets from the various minor hockey associations, in that case the majority of revenue created would have to come from inflated Concessions/Merchandise sales. It's really a lose/lose situation trying to get people through the door these days, you can try to expand promotions like 4 for $50 on Fridays to maybe all Weekday games or afternoon Matinees. Someone suggested in here an idea of say a all in one package (admissions, concessions included) which I think would be worthwhile for families attending maybe something to factor into a monthly budget. If it's $100 for a family of 4 which could include 4 tickets/4 Drinks/4 treats and maybe a voucher for the Eagles store? I would also suggest something similar with bar coupons for the 20-40yo crowd of 3-4 buddies who might be looking for a alternative Friday/Saturday night entertainment.

I’ve been beating the drum of the high ticket prices for a while now. The entertainment value doesn’t justify the price especially when you consider the rising costs of everything. The extra money isn’t there to spend on Q games when the price is this high. That’s a huge problem and it needs to be more affordable for the middle class because that’s who you should be trying to draw into the rink. I just don’t think they need be pricing it so that people who probably never have the disposable income (unemployment/minimum wage) can go to games.

Honestly the set up there is pretty good with the casino right there too. I think for a 20-30 year old, if you’re planning a night out and are a hockey fan, you might enjoy going to the game with 3-4 buddies for a few drinks, maybe head to the casino and then go for a night out on the town. I’ve done it in Cape Breton, I’ve done it in Charlottetown and I’ve done it in Halifax. It’s always been a fun way to kick off the start of a night out but the tickets/beers were priced to a point where it didn’t break the bank.

Felt like this was an interesting reply to Pat McNeil from Irwin's son Trevor in regards to attendance.
