www.tsn.ca/nhl/plenty-of-intrigue-after-connor-bedard-in-bob-mckenzie-s-nhl-draft-lottery-edition-ranking-1.1956585Updated McKenzie top 12...Smith at 3 and Dvorsky at 6 are the jumps. Perreault also jumps up, all three likely due to great U18 tournaments. Benson drops a bit as does Barlow, Yager & Sale out of the top 12. I wasn't a big fan of Dvorsky if the Habs stay at 6-7 but he is growing on me, showing lots against his age group. Ideally though they can get a dynamic skill player like Smith, Michkov or Carlsson(if he slides) assuming they don't win one of the two lotteries. Leonard could also be an option at 6-7 along with Dvorsky and Leonard.

I watched Dvorsky at the World Juniors and he didn't really stand out to me that much, I know he's younger but I'm not sure if he's top 6 worthy, I think he could slot closer to 10. I could very well be proven wrong over time as well. I do think having Dvorsky, Mesar, and Slafkovsky would be pretty cool though and could actually be a line at some point lol.

Will Smith is the guy if he is on the board IMO.

Will Smith is the guy if he is on the board IMO. Bob Mckenzie had Smith at #3. I don't see any way he gets to 5. If him and Carlsson go 3-4, and there are no hockey reasons to say Michkov won't be an NHL star, then you take him. I know the geo political climate is not ideal, but Russians will still come, plus in 2 years the war in Ukraine will be long done, I don't see it as a huge risk.

Columbus basically guaranteed to pick a center so Smith or Carlsson are picked there. San Jose picking a center seems likely as well.
I think you almost have to take Michkov at 5 if he's there, it's not like the team will be all that much better the next 2 seasons so take time to develop more guys and maybe get another top 10 pick or 2. Then have Michkov come over at the right time and this team could be scary.

If Smith and Carlsson are off the board it would be dumb to pass on Michkov.

Would Hughes have interest in someone like Ivan Barbashev?
Upcoming UFA....coming off a contract with a cap hit of $2,250,000.
Or Alex Killorn?

He brings size, skill and a LH shot. They would probably have to move a couple of wingers out to make it work...Killorn, age is my concern, he is going to be 34 next year.
