another blown game in the final 5 minutes, how many is that now lol? Unreal. Maddening - to blow a 4-2 lead with 1:32 left to play. This is all on the coach. I really don't think that Matthews was the best guy to have on the ice on a 6 against 4 situation.

They're a highly entertaining top 10 team. But top 10 probably doesn't get you out of round 2 assuming you get through another top 10 team in round 1. Its just felt to me for a while now that they don't have the supporting cast needed to go deep. There's some signs of a McMann being a solid piece going forward who can play anywhere and contribute but once a Marner isn't at 100% and Tavares settles into the reality as a 25 goal/50 point guy from the 40+ goal point per game player he was at his peak there's just not enough Matthews and Nylander can do without legendary goaltending. I think this becomes Treliving's team this summer. Keefe is gone. Goaltending rehaul with a Markstrom or someone brought in he has more confidence in. And thats assuming Keith Pelley already doesn't have his own plan. 10 years of the Shanaplan is enough for me to think a new vision is needed to take it to the next level.

Does Samsanov ever play on his tweaks?
Does he battle for his team?
Did he get hurt Saturday night.....or did he just create an escape plan for the playoffs?

Samsanov is on track to be the playoff starter and the way florida is currently playing the leafs could catch in standings. the bruins continue to surprise me but their def and goalies are rock solid in spite of having a 1st line and 3 / 3rd lines

Bruins it is and once again my son seahawk will get his chance to tease me every time the Leafs lose !
I think this time the Leafs could win and I wonder if Keefe will give Mathews and Nylander a chance for career years in goals and points
Red Wings with 3 consecutive 5-4 O/T wins made it close but WSH win put them in

Bruins dominated the Leafs in the season series and have the Leafs past playoff demons in their head but don't forget the Bruins blew last years playoffs going out in the first round after a historic regular season and they didn't really steamroll into the post season
On paper the Leafs should win..... but we all know the games aren't played on paper.

Toronto is deeper down the middle. They're both pretty equal on the wings...but Pastrnak and Marchand play with a grit Marner and Nylander just don't have. Boston has the better blueline both in terms of the top guy and depth. Boston has better team structure, defensive play, and goaltending with some actual depth at the position. Toronto's been playing to get Matthews the puck for the last 2-3 weeks. The coach isn't happy. They've looked generally pretty mediocre during those last few weeks. This is basically the turning point for this core for Toronto. They have more grit in the lineup with guys like McMann and Benoit but unless the big guys show more I just think Boston's best players walk all over them. Boston's centers find a way to neutralize Matthews and Tavares at all and the Leafs have a tough time scoring. I think Boston wins in 5 or 6. And this is the end of the road for Marner as a core piece.

I think Samsonov because I don’t think he’s the problem tonight. I think there’s 1 goal he really wants back and the DeBrusk one that bounced up his arm, is what it is. The reality of it is, the Leafs problem in the playoffs is scoring goals. You aren’t going to win games 1-0. Treliving’s solution to that problem was getting grittier. Reaves should never touch the ice in an NHL playoff game. Lyubushkin/Benoit handle the puck like it’s a grenade on the back end. There’s room for 1 of them in the lineup but not both, Brodie is a better option than either of them. Nylander being out is a big problem for them, who knows how injured he is but for as much of an enigma as he is to the fans/people who watch the NHL, the guy is consistently noticeable and produces for the Leafs in critical games. It’s easy to blame Samsonov but I don’t think you can watch that game and think anyone played good. The whole team was fighting the puck, they couldn’t stay out of the box and their PP was garbage. If Woll was playing better or Samsonov truly was the difference in the game, I think you could make that switch but it wouldn’t matter who was in net tonight, they lose that game by the same score.

If you out shoot the opponent 36-24....but lose 5-1.....you HAVE to look at goaltending.
