it's usually the same stuff. I keep seeing Nylander to St. Louis as being a heavy rumor in return for a 1st, Jake Neighbors, and Colton Parayko, but honestly I don't see that happening. Parayko is likely on the downswing and still signed for like 6 or 7 more years iirc? Neighbors has good potential but is still a project. only way a 1st is worth it is if it's unprotected. overall I think there's better potential deals out there. And rumors like that are coming from people trying to make a living off of feeding hockey fans fake/false information to generate hits. The Eklund's of the internet. Or the 12 year olds creating copy/paste facebook groups. There's zero reality to a rumor that like. Toronto has no need to trade Nylander while contending. If he walks...they take that $8-$9 mil and just spend it elsewhere. The only way a trade would be at all realistic is if the team is out of contention within 7-10 days of the trade deadline. What I find interesting is back pre-cap when there were way more ways to move players and way less restrictions...there was few outlets like we have now for information. Now we have those outlets but the system makes it nearly impossible to make big moves. But 99% of the ones we do see come from known media sources. Not from some kids facebook page. But people crave rumors and think anyone able to throw a webpage together is as credible as anyone else. I recently seen one disgustingly use a kids pre-season injury in the Q as an example of the fighting rule already failing. No standards. No ethics. Just complete and utter BS. But to some people its as credible as an Elliotte Friedmen tweet. yup exactly...people just like to speculate and form their own trade ideals out of thin air with nothing really backing it. you're right, if Nylander just walks, they'll spend that money elsewhere. At this point if you trade him you're only trading for stuff that will make the team better, otherwise keep your 40-goal scorer and hope to go on a run. This teams top 6 is arguably better than last years. people just like to made feel like they're doing something lol, yet all it is, is a bunch of bs. and yeah I seen that....wasn't the injury because of the arena boards and not even a dirty play? Or am I thinking of something else.

also...even if that trade somehow became legit, even after moving Nylander and bringing in Parayko, this team would still need to shed more salary...I just don't see it.

If he walks...they take that $8-$9 mil and just spend it elsewhere. I am not sure I would consider it the most likely scenario, but I think there is a scenario where Nylander gets dealt in season ... if Treliving feels they can't/won't re-sign him, they can then keep him as an "own rental" (which I think is the most likely scenario), or alternatively, trade him for picks and prospects, and then turn around and use the cap space to make a big trade that changes the roster composition in a significant way - so re-allocates the money being spent on a scoring forward to a top d-man or goalie. This becomes more likely if Treliving feels the team as currently constructed is "missing something" come the new year.

very early but was not impressed with #3 J.Klingberg last night for the Leafs / skating poor / defense awful /salary way too high over 4 million . then on the other hand Chychrun for the Senators looked in mid season form For the Leafs Cowan was flying and should have a great season with the London Knights Why are they thinking of sending Timmons to AHL / he would not clear waivers could they not send Giordano/ for 1 game for cap issues before murray/etc can go on IR

His matchups have to be mapped out.

Thought on 19yr old Fraser Minten cracking the Leafs Roster? Love it if he's ready. The first 6-8 games should give us that indication. As long as he's getting a regular shift I think it's good but if he starts to get into healthy scratch territory early send him back. He and Cowan look to have some of the elements the core has lacked. The quicker they come along...the better. But you still can't rush them, either.

i'm thinking Cowan is only there for cap purposes?
28th overall picks don't often make for teenage players
but good on him and the other kid on their training camp performances being rewarded if only temporarily

Probably see that happen today.
