Decide to make it a duo-thread for the weekend
Halifax takes on Victoriaville Friday and takes on Blainville Saturday both on home ice!
Victoriaville whom are expected to be one of the top teams in the league are lead by a really solid goalie duo of Nathan Darveau & Gabriel D’Aigle. They beat Moncton yesterday 5-3, D’Aigle made 32 out of 35 saves in the outting. Overager Thommy Cormier is off to a hot start with 9 assists, 10 points in 5 games. 18 year old Justin Larose with 5 goals 9 points in 5 games.
It’s expected Mathis Rousseau gets the start tonight against 20 year old Nathan Darveau, it will be interesting to see if there is any changes to the lines tonight ahead of the game, it’s quite possible they put Cataford/Vidicek together on the first line tonight and put Kilfoil/Crosby together on the 2nd or they go with what has worked. thus far.
As for Saturday, Jack Milner should be getting the start in nets against Blainville who surprisingly have a 4-1-0 record but their top player has only 4 points, Goalie Charles Edward, Gravel who has relations to Alex Gravel has been real solid thus far. We shall see if they go with him tonight against Cape Breton or rookie goalie Edouard Gauthier.
Should be an interesting two games in Halifax!

I think we will see Rousseau start both, this early in the season in a back-to-back at home. I really only see Milner getting games during 3 in 3s, 3 in 4s, or the quick Sunday matinee turnarounds.

I kind of agree but also realize it's only early Oct. Do we want to ride Rousseau THIS early? Milner hasn't played in a while and a young low scoring team like Blainville seems like a good time to try him. Plus do we even know if Milner is a capable Q league backup? I'm not sure we do. Have to find pockets to play him. Because if he can't play, they'll need to acquire a backup at xmas.

I agree with this, I also don’t expect Blainville to run Charles Edward-Gravel twice in a row either, they are in Cape Breton today, I can definitely see a Edouard Gauthier vs Jack Milner start on Saturday. Using Rousseau for a Wednesday, Friday, Saturday is too risky I think. Cole McLaren had a fair share of shots against the Quebec teams and Weak Maritime Teams. Milner is 18 and had a pretty decent Junior A campaign, won’t know what kind of goalie he is if he doesn’t play. It’ll be a tough and interesting series for sure.

Bit of an update on tonight’s game.
Victoriavilles top scorer Justin Larose isn’t in the lineup tonight.
Newly acquired Ducks Prospect Noah Warren is drawing into his first game for the Tigres tonight however, landed in Halifax yesterday.

Newly acquired Ducks Prospect Noah Warren is drawing into his first game for the Tigres tonight however, landed in Halifax yesterday. It should be a great game and fun to see two of favorite teams this year with their complete lineup except Dumais and Larose like you said. There are rumours that Victo wants to go very agressive at the deadline. Some rumours were sending Luneau to Victo and maybe Savoie (had he stayed healthy). Let's see after tonight which team is ahead at this early stage of the season. The Moose are definitely back after last week-end showing.

Did something happen to Larose in Moncton last night?

MacPhee looks great out there, Levesque solid too.
I would like to see Ponzetto get a chance on the power play
Also that save by Darveau was nuts, and nice tip by Peitzsche.
Definitely still in this one, just got to lower the turnovers and figure out who works and who doesn’t on the PP.

This was the first game I tuned into this year. Held off on getting the streaming package in case dumais didn't come back. Didn't want to fork out 150 bones I'd he didn't come back and we sold the farm for the future...
We have 6 solid d and it really shows. Very clean zone exits and not a whole lot of turnovers. That will definitely be our strength this year. Rousseau looks very good too. Missed the first goal so can't speak on that but 2nd wasn't his fault.
Mackinnon is very physical. Stepped up on guys a lot. You love to see it in such a soft league. Wish he could still throw hands every once and a while. Even though we need him on the ice I'm selfish and love to see a good intense scrap from time to time and he's one of the only guys that still did.
Not sure if crobsy and peitzsche are top 6 forward material. I know he got the pp goal but that's his one strength, standing in the blue paint and banging home/tipping goals. He doesn't drive the play though. Small sample size though. Hopefully get a new 20 soon to put in the top 6. For now I'd like to see kilfoil play up there. He looked very calm and poised and that's playing on a line with macphee so doesn't have much help to get on the scoreboard. Top 6 he might have a few points by now.
This Louie levesque kid is the real f'ing deal (from what I've seen in highlights). Probably too small to get drafted by nhl so will likely have him til 20 yo season. Probably be a 40 or 50 goal scorer then. He is shifty and speedy and once he learns the pace of the game at the major jr level he will most likely start lighting the lamp a lot more!
That puck over glass looked like it caught someone. Hopefully not too serious. That's not what you want to see at games. Very unfortunate.
Our pp is God awful. Dumais can't get back here soon enough. When Fournier is on your top pp you know somethings wrong. Furlong is fantastic at getting shots through traffic though, he's no al macinnis but he can get those floaters through screens which is necessary for a powerplay.
Holy moly this victo goalie should be a golden glove 1st baseman for the jays with the save he made on cataford. Holy jumpings call the cops that's a robbery!!
Hopefully we can keep it going in the 2nd and tie this baby up!

Solid response from Halifax after falling behind 2-0. Not generating a ton of high quality chances, but they're skating, working hard, getting pucks on net.

Did Victoriaville think they had the win after the first period or did we just get exponentially better? Or both? Victoriaville looked overwhelmed in every aspect. Without their goalie it would look worse..

That penalty on macphee at the beginning of thay period is nonsense. Leave your crease and you're fair game. Not like he tried to hit him. If you have a 50/50 collision the goalie is at fault. Must be starzomski in the stripes tonight...just awful in my humble opinion.
Really miss lawrence and doucet on the pk. It was almost an advantage to us to be shorthanded last year when those two guys would just skate down the ice casually and score a highlight reel goal.
Fournier banging home some garbage! Love to see him going to the dirty areas! That's a goal that even Brandon vuic or Justin saulnier could tap home!
Ponzetto is invisible out there. I noticed him throw a hit but didn't notice a single play that he made. Hope he doesn't end up as our next Barinka or Safin. Already have moravec eating up a EU as well as a OA slot. Need our other euro to be a stud. Hopefully he turns into a meier where he has a quiet year then turns into a beast, even though I wish we drafted an older guy having just this year in mind.
Moose have really turned it up in the 2nd! Great snipe by Louie! With losing so much talent up front they still have people stepping driving the play...And that's without dumais. Him and Levesque together on the pp are really going to cause some damage I think. Would even love to see them on again line together then keep cataford and vidcek on another line.

Just took over the game in every aspect. Can't say I was expecting that.
Levesque-Cataford-Crosby look liked they've played together for 2yrs.
