Haha it sure was! Good teams are supposed to dominate bottom feeders and they sure did that. Good to see them fill the net, especially on home ice. Really like the depth of this team right now and am excited to see what they can do in the second half. Was also keeping an eye on the score of the Rimouski-Sea Dogs game and couldn't decide who I wanted to see win. Battling Rimouski for seeding, but want that Sea Dogs pick to be as high as possible.

Houde is playing like he wants to be on this roster next year. 15 pts in last 10 games, really carrying the water with guys like MacDonald in and out of the lineup recently.

Houde more often than not recently has looked like the best player on the ice including both teams. Think he's definitely played his way in to a 20 year old spot next season.

It was around 12 months ago I made a comment about how when buying an 18yr old and declaring him already as an overager what you risk is guys who pass them on the development curve. We have 5 quality overage options: Cibulka Schmitt Newcombe Houde Ruccia Is Schmitt really a no doubt option about that group after the Cibulka trade? I think you regret moving on from Houde. Newcombe is probably the #1 option for me assuming he picks up where he left off when he returns. Cibulka's spot is guaranteed if he returns. It will be interesting to see.

I think it's a great problem to have.
We can't lose sight of the fact that Newcombe is on the verge of making his return and we all hope he is here to stay, but we never know what the future holds.
Cibulka, from my understanding is not a lock to play as a 20, but he would be a leading candidate if chooses to stay.
As for Houde goes, he is starting to grow on me, but I really am hoping he can elevate his game and compete level down the stretch and in the play-offs, specifically vs top teams. Points are always good, but 7 of his last 8 goals ( 10 of his last 12 points) are vs Quebec and St.John. Still good, but I have concerns.
Assuming Newcombe comes back to the form he left on, I have Newc, Cibulka, Schmitt Ruccia, Houde in that order at the moment. The audition starts now, 28 games + play-offs.

Def a good thing to have to many 20s because it will be one less thing to buy at the deadline next year but it will suck to give two away for nothing Ruccia and Houde find homes on other teams as a 20. I think Cibulka returns to an all in CHL team next season Cape should be a top team next year and i would hope sly wouldnt pay two 2nds for a guy who only plays half the year

It is an interesting situation, we've seen players like Houde explode in to 80+ point players in their 20 year old season. I've always been of the opinion that offense in juniors gives you a better shot at a championship compared to defense, but a guy like Schmitt is an impact player in his own right as well.

Regardless of however our OA situation plays out next year, we should be able to move 2-3 (Roy/Lavallee to a lesser extent) of these bubble 20s at the draft for assets to be used over the next 2 trade deadlines. In my opinion that's an excellent problem to have.
Does the SJ first plus one of Houde/Schmitt/Ruccia + some other picks suddenly make you a contender to land a Gauthier or Cataford type player next season?
I can't say if that's the right move to make or not, however if that's how the cookie crumbles that changes next years landscape in a big way without gutting our current depth.

Capes 20s will hold little to no value next year cape will have to many and other teams know that they will have to cut and thats what teams will wait for. they will have value on a team who can hold them until christmas but teams wont see value in a player who wont make anothers opening night roster.

Decisions on 20's will be made well before opening night rosters. I think you are over estimating the crop of 19's currently in the league, it's not that deep and 54 of them will find jobs.
