Capes 20s will hold little to no value next year cape will have to many and other teams know that they will have to cut and thats what teams will wait for. they will have value on a team who can hold them until christmas but teams wont see value in a player who wont make anothers opening night roster. Decisions on 20's will be made well before opening night rosters. I think you are over estimating the crop of 19's currently in the league, it's not that deep and 54 of them will find jobs. Cape will still have to sell for basically nothing even if they are moved before opening night. teams will not pay for something that is free come opening night.

Let's assume it's Houde and Ruccia that are the odd ones out, do you honestly think teams won't pay for these guys at the draft?
Have you looked at the goaltending in this league? You could argue Ruccia is in the top 5 for next season and will be well sought after should he be the odd man out.

Regardless of however our OA situation plays out next year, we should be able to move 2-3 (Roy/Lavallee to a lesser extent) of these bubble 20s at the draft for assets to be used over the next 2 trade deadlines. In my opinion that's an excellent problem to have. Does the SJ first plus one of Houde/Schmitt/Ruccia + some other picks suddenly make you a contender to land a Gauthier or Cataford type player next season? I can't say if that's the right move to make or not, however if that's how the cookie crumbles that changes next years landscape in a big way without gutting our current depth. Capes 20s will hold little to no value next year cape will have to many and other teams know that they will have to cut and thats what teams will wait for. they will have value on a team who can hold them until christmas but teams wont see value in a player who wont make anothers opening night roster. 100% false. Teams regularly bring in 20's from contenders who have no room for them in this league. Just because your 4th best overager is 4th best on your team doesn't make him less valuable to a team he'd be the best player on. Our extra 20's will have the same value as everyone elses in terms of market value. But it's silly to say they have no value if they can't play on our team. There's an entire league trading history that tells you thats just not true.

Thats not how the trade market works in junior hockey. Teams regularly as in every single year bring in 20's from teams with too many returning 19yr olds. Why are you so sure of this while providing zero context or proof to back it up? Way more extra 20's are traded every year vs waived because nobody seen value in a proven player.

Yes this is finalized at the draft in my view...at worst you bring in 4 guys if Cibulka is a question mark. But Ruccia will be moved at the draft I'd say. You're also bang on that a weak crop of 19yr olds means 20's like ours should find homes well before they're on waivers.

The Value is here but teams know Cape will not keep them so they will pay little to nothing for a player who wont even make a team. Thats why you see alot of good 20s get traded for 5ths etc. It wont be an all in team after them as it is so i wouldnt expect much for guys who wont make your opening night roster

Just look at how many overagers are moved at every draft. All those guys should end up on waivers in September according to this poster. Why doesn't that happen?

That doesn't make Ruccia any better or worse as a trade asset. You've already gone from these guys cant make opening nights and will be had for free to these guys get traded for 5ths. We probably get 2nd/3rd pick and maybe another something like a younger player or a 5th/6th range for both Houde and Ruccia. But if they end up on waivers in September when nobody wants them i'll buy you a beer.

Wouldn't this qualify as a Good Problem to Have ? Excellent problem to have. But you paid a lot to put yourself in that position as well. Hopefully that part of it comes out in the wash.

I said little to nothing lol and i didnt say they couldnt make a shitty teams opening night roster once, which is exactly what will happen. why would you give a 2nd 3rd and a prospect for a guy who is getting cut from the team you are trading for. they will wait until they are FA if they make a team they will hold value

More then all in teams need quality goaltending. Every team needs it, Ruccia with a solid finish to the season will be in high demand.
Gatineau moved Olivier Boutin at the draft last year to the Titan for a 2nd and a 3rd because they had to many 20's.
Cape gave up a 2nd / 6th for Cam MacDonald to the same Gatineau team who had too many overagers.
Houde's value could extend beyond both of these guys with a strong finish.

You see 20s go at the draft becuase they would have made the team that traded them LOL These contending teams are loading up and returning as many as 6-7-8 quality overage options some years. The 4th/5th/6th guys on the depth chart can be among the top overage options in the league. Especially for rebuilding teams craving experience. Thats why so many teams make moves at the draft to solidify 20yr old options ahead of the season. Teams don't want to be picking overagers off waivers. Thats why you'll see a Halifax bring in an out of region kid to see what they can find. They'd already have acquired anything worthwhile thats available here.

This whole point that teams will just wait to get all our extra guys for free on waivers is absurd.

Nah both of them would have made Gatineau thats why they got something. they wouldnt have been cut ur players are getting cut and they know that. what 20 does Gat have rn that is better than Boutin and Macdonald LOL and dont say Gendro he was in the plans at all
