Oof. If they keep playing like that we're done in 4. If that happens I'm all for a scorched earth rebuild, complete coaching staff overhaul. I am completely ready for a scorched-earth rebuild now. We have the assets to be set up like Chicoutimi for our next run, even if we keep Brady Schultz so our defense has a little bit of QMJHL quality to it. Halifax had a week to prepare to face a rebuilding team in the playoffs. They had a week to practice busting through a suffocating defense strategy. For them to come out and say "We didn't play our game"... If they can't play their game against a rebuilding team they have no hope for any other rounds anyway.

Tough loss but that’s overtime in the playoffs, Bathurst shut the door defensively and their goalie played well! Our first line looked gased for some reason in the second and especially the third! Positive note it was good to have MacPhee back and he worked hard and IMO Logan Crosby played really well!! I have read the loss of Furlong shouldnt impact us but after watching last night IMO it was noticeable, he logged big minutes with Moravec especially against top player and lines and that gave our other D pairing a better opportunity! Furlong may have played his last game for the Moose and I would think he will be AHL next year !! Our d struggle a lot last night to get the puck out, without Furlong they are now all getting better minutes and I hope they can figure it out and step up! It’s only one game of a 7 game series and I hope we can get thru it, will be interesting to see if Dumais plays tonight!!!

So how is the D getting caught up ice. Forwards not getting back. Its OT! Very frustrating to watch. Top line wasn't effective at all. After the 2nd they should have shuffled them. Crosby isn't number 1 line playoff material yet. He may be some day but not yet. Once that line was stifled they should have put Reynolds up there and moved Levesque to line 2. Levesque generates offence with his speed alone. Vidicek didn't get a whole lot done. He should have gotten the puck deep on the OT goal instead of a soft dump. His line mates anticipated the puck going deep and when it didn't, the transition was happening without one of them being back to help the D. Halifax seem to play to the level of our competition, which probably means that a coach with a less talented team can out-coach our coach and even the playing field.

Both these teams have known who they would be playing for several weeks. It was really locked in. One team knows they need to play their best and another believes it will pull through on talent. The goaltenders were great both sides. The big picture...stated it back around page 2 or 3 of this thread. Halifax can't really afford the cost of playing an extended series. Baie Comeau, Cape Breton & Chicoutimi look formidable so they could use the rest between series. Or they just will not sniff round 3. I think Halifax pulls this series out but at what cost. Need a lead. The ice in the 10000 fan rink is garbage by 3rd period. See that puck jump alot. It's like skating on scratched glass or thin sand. The ice will be more consistent in Bathurst so the struggle will be at home.

If we lose in 4, is this year just comparable to or worse than the year we still had all that talent with Lavoie, Groulx, MacIsaac etc and J.J Daigneault cost us a run? Worst disappointment year was the Marchand year...not even close to JJ daigneault failure. We were stacked and got outcoached and outplayed by 2 forwards. Edit: couldn't even control whatever Marchand was doing and benched him for the last game.

I'd say tonight is pretty much a must win situation. We for sure need some guys to step up and our Powerplay needs to be better..we have beat these guys before.

They either don't have them prepared with the right game plan, or they can't motivate them to play hard and stick to the game plan. It's one or the other.

Simple game plan in the playoffs just get the puck out of your own end hard stop making soft passes in your own zone and get lots of puck on net pretty goals are not the norm in playoffs garbage goals are just as good . Stick to that plan and we should succeed at the very least we won’t be gassed at in the 3 rd period .

Antoine Keller in his last 3 games against the Mooseheads:
3W, 0L | 0.66 GAA | .974 SV%
Better start solving him soon.

Partially (if not directly) responsible for both goals against. Bobbled pretty much every puck on the PP. But Jim's got no balls to pull him off the top unit and put Sprynar on the left wall. Or to split up him and Cataford.

Stick to that plan and we should succeed at the very least we won’t be gassed at in the 3 rd period . I would like a count at how many opportunities to clear were turnovers inside their blue line - it was among the highest I have witnessed this year. The Bathurst players were also far superior behind both nets (played bigger overall competing for the puck) preventing possession by the Moose. When Halifax did get chances they would often shoot the puck and not recover it because they had terrible coverage on the wall. Bathurst did much better taking that away forcing them up the middle.

The ice surface is an absolute disgrace. that said it's equal for both teams. But if the quality gets worse in a warm building the best defense is a lead.
