This can not be overstated. The ice surface is an absolute disgrace. that said it's equal for both teams. But if the quality gets worse in a warm building the best defense is a lead. I made no statement about its relation to either teams play! 😉

Honestly, my only hope remaining for a second round is Dumais. Tho I shouldn't hold that hope too high considering randohockeyguy's insights. Also the ice sucks but it sucks for both teams, so no excuses here. We need to stop the Titan from cycling behind our own net. There is virtually no pressure on them. Our breakouts worked great in the first but they stopped working with every passing period. Not sure why - I would assume it had to do with the pressure of being back 1:0. We need to shoot more, bring every puck on net, don't pass it 15 times and then fumble it - just SHOOT; that's how we got our one goal. Todd and McPhee need to provoke the Titan but just enough to not get a penalty but let the Titan get a penalty. They are volatile. Sprynar had an off night with his one-timers last night - let's hope he get's back to it today. Put him on PP1 - please. MacKenzie struggled at points but I don't wanna blame him, I don't think he had the playoffs on his 2024 bingo card. MacKinnon fumbled the puck 2 times where he should have got a shot on goal. Let's get our passes sorted tonight as well. Last night we lost some good chances because of some messed up passes. More focus on back checking - goals will come but it's most important to keep them puck out of our own goal. There were too many times where our D was caught with a 3 on 2 or 2 on 1. A lot to work on... Let's hope they can do it!
** Ignore this ramble here if you want to **
Having played on a team with a "star player" myself when I was younger, it's very easy to put your head down without the star player - especially in games like this. It's hard to explain why but let me try to put it in words: You know your best guy is missing, you know he saved some games and you know he can make a difference in overtime. You look around and you don't see him. Now all the pressure is on you. You feel like you can't do it. You make awful choices on ice because you think it's right in the moment and you can score the game winner. But you can't. You loose. It's weird but maybe other people that have played hockey know this feeling? It's weird. Anyways.

The missing star player thing is generally just an excuse for fans.
Most of these players get greater responsibility without him and attempt to raise to the occasion.
This team relaxes and plays better away from home. They are different in Scotiabank Center and have be less than inspiring even in their wins with Dumais playing. Home is not very sweet for this team in 2024.

One thing about last night game is that Rollens is playing like he should, he is a tough defender and was on the ice whenever cataford or vidchek were on and he made them work for everything! If we are lucky enough to have dumais in the line up I would run the lines like this
cat/vid/Crosby Sprynar/denis/ dumais Lev/MacPhee/Reynolds
Make Bathurst figure who to put Rollens on against, less pressure on dumais and with his passing a one timer to spryer is available and denis bring toughness

you have last change so your coach needs to decide who plays against Rollens/Orr

Yea... Our best players need to be better tonight.
MacKinnon was a disaster last night, Denis was trying to force too much and not using his line mates, Reynolds was soft as hell, stay on your skates... Vidicek looked like he was skating through mud all game, Sprynar had 3 grade A chances he completely whiffed on.
But aside from that, in terms of structure the team was a mess. it seemed there were always 3 green jerseys within 5 feet of one another, and most of the time they still managed to lose puck battles. Passes were all over the place, well, with the exception of being on the tape.
Anyway, Game 2 tonight... hoping for a W because I want there to be at least a game 5, I'll be in Montreal for game 3 and 4 and don't wanna miss us getting eliminated XD

Oof. If they keep playing like that we're done in 4. If that happens I'm all for a scorched earth rebuild, complete coaching staff overhaul. It’s strange really… I don’t think I’ve ever been so ready for a season to end for a team as good as they are. And yes, a complete rebuild needs to be on the menu.

So it does seem like Dumais won’t be in the lineup tonight. Makes me believe he is done for the season and with the Mooseheads. Missing two key players is just not gonna be sustainable with how the rest of the team has been playing. Worries me.

The ice in the 10000 fan rink is garbage by 3rd period. See that puck jump alot. It's like skating on scratched glass or thin sand. This can not be overstated. The ice surface is an absolute disgrace. Yeah Bathurst played on a different ice surface….

Reminds me of last years Blue Jays team. The talent was obvious, but just a very unlikable team. Disconnect from fans was palpable.

In their past six meetings, the Titan have outscored Halifax 20-11. Bobby Orr was in on 13 of those goals. Which begs the question: Was that August 2022 trade (to Gatineau for two future draft picks) the worst Moose trade in recent memory? (So far, the net effect of that trade for the Mooseheads is Liam Kilfoil, with 9 goals, 11 assists in 62 games.)

Anyone know why Dumais might not play?
Good first period last night, just couldn’t finish our chances. We need more speed on the top line at times. Midgley needed to play Lou and Kilfoil more on the top line, they seemed to have the most energy in the third. Crosby did look good but slowed down as the game went on. Reynolds just needs to bring more too, I like his game went he his engaged, he needs to play like that more often

I feel the same way. And it's not like I'm some entitled fan that doesn't appreciate talent. This team is talented. But it's really hard to get excited for a playoff run after last year's amazing run, watching the same team but worse. If this team was better than last year then it would be much easier. We got the absolute most out of last year's team we could possibly get. I can't shake the "If last year's team got as far as they did and lost, then this team has no chance". That's why I've found myself extremely calm about this series against Bathurst. I feel like they aren't winning anyway, so going out in round 1, 2 or 3 doesn't really matter, especially after last year. I'm ready to start the next chapter.
