Email reply to my inquiry from Hockey Canada
Thanks for your interest, unfortunately we did not do live stats for the U18 selection camp, so the only info is the game reports that were posted following each game. As for the tournament, we are still finalizing where, and if, the Slovakian Ice Hockey Federation will be posting the live stats and game summaries. If they do not, game reports on the Hockey Canada site will be the source of information. Thanks. xxx xxx xxx,xxx Hockey Canada

I sent a follow-up to let me know asap if anything becomes available. I also sent an email to my Swiss contact. ------------------------------------------------------- Try these in the morning : Probably you can find some information on www.hokej.cz (Czech) and www.hokej.sk (Slovak). We will also write the results on our website www.hockeyfans.ch (you can find links to the U20 and U18 team on the top left).

Yeah there is IIHF is in the spring which is dumb really because they can't get the best players available but then again then do that all the time. How cant they get the best players available, they do it after then junior seasons are over as far as I know. Also the World U-17 which are held around Christmas time serves as a scouting tournament of sorts to pick the U-18 team as it happens in the following sping.

Also the World U-17 which are held around Christmas time serves as a scouting tournament of sorts to pick the U-18 team as it happens in the following sping. You're way off. The IIHF World Under 18, which takes place every year in April (not sure where this year), is a yearly tournament for 17 year old players (1990 born players for the April 2008 tournament). Since it takes place in April, many CHL players are still with their teams in their league's playoffs, so Canada doesn't always have their best players. The Ivan Hlinka tournament that is about to start is also for 1990 born players. Many of these players will also be on the April 2008 team, unless their Jr teams are still playing. The World Under 17 Challenge, which takes place in London ON this year from Dec 29, 2007 to Jan 4 2008, is a yearly tournament (except in Canada Games years) for 16 year old players (1991 born players for this year's tournament). It is rare for someone who plays in this tournament to also play in the IIHF World U18 tournament 3 months later, although both Stamkos and Sauve did it last year.

You're way off. Since it takes place in April, many CHL players are still with their teams in their league's playoffs, so Canada doesn't always have their best players. Can someone born in 1990 but before April play, for a U-18 tournament in 2008, since they are not under 18? The World Under 17 Challenge, which takes place in London ON this year from Dec 29, 2007 to Jan 4 2008, is a yearly tournament (except in Canada Games years) for 16 year old players (1991 born players for this year's tournament). It is rare for someone who plays in this tournament to also play in the IIHF World U18 tournament 3 months later, although both Stamkos and Sauve did it last year. When the W-17's were in NEwfoundland all the scouts here were talking about how the U-18 team is an all-star team from players in this tournament. The Q season always ends mid March, so they still have the best players available to them in April. The Memorial Cup starts when, beginng on May so its probably only 6 teams if all the leagues are in the finals that they dont have access too. That isnt a huge number, Canada could send three teams to this tournament and finish in the top 3.
