According to Palov in the Herald earlier this week, Russell wanted to get down to one extra forward and 7 or 8 defensemen. The Moose are now down to 13 forwards, but are carrying 9 D. There could be another move after Abeltshauser and Gillard return. Maybe, Metcalfe or MacDonald sent to Junior A.

MacDonald makes the most sense for right now. Metcalfe would go on waivers before he could be sent down. Then you run the risk of him getting claimed. I would guess Halifax would rather hold onto him until the trade period, and see if they can get something for him. If at Xmas you can't move him, then you can send him down and bring MacDonald back up. Brunet would be the other option right now, if hey can find a deal.

Metcalfe wouldn't be claimed nor will he be dealt at xmas for an asset. He may be released at some point but he has no value to another team.

Teams add 4th liners quite often for a little added toughness. Who would have thought Brad Tesink would have been worth anything this time last year? He actually turned out to be okay as the year went on, finally getting some icetime.

The trade is posted in the Trade section on the Q site, and the Mooseheads also gave up a 5th in 2011, for the 3rd in 2011.

lala what does a "locked" pick mean? A picked is 'locked' if it's tied in to a past trade as part of future considerations. therefore cannot be traded. For instance: Halifax traded a 5th round pick to Bathurst for the rights to Brad Malone. If Brad Malone ever came to Halifax, then the Mooseheads would have to send Bathurst a 1st round pick. So, for 3 years, while Malone played in the USHL and NCAA, the Mooseheads 1st round pick was 'locked', and couldn't be traded in case Malone showed up in Halifax.

The Halifax Mooseheads officially announced the trade of 20-year-old forward Yuri Cheremetiev to the Bathurst Titan on Friday. They also shipped a 2011 fifth-round draft pick to the Titan to land a third-rounder in 2011.

They also shipped a 2011 fifth-round draft pick to the Titan to land a third-rounder in 2011. I wasn't expecting anything more than a 3rd, and would have been happy with a 4th, even 5th, but I thought Yuri would be worth more than an upgrade from a 5th to a 3rd.

I dont mind the fact Halifax dealt Cheremetiev, but they got hosed...
Leduc and Stinziani are no better than Cheremetiev and they both fetched a 3rd pick straight up.
