On defence, Mathieu Corbeil-Thériault gets the nod. In three starts, the Mooseheads’ goaltender collected two wins while posting a 1.67 goals-against-average and .945 save percentage. Corbeil-Thériault saw an average of 30 shots per game during the three-game span. He was either named a first (2) or a second (1) star in every game. www.lhjmq.qc.ca/lang_en/index.php?page=232&id_nouvelle=2266

Congratulations to Corbeil for a great week! Hope his strong play continues although it would be nice if the team didn't rely on him so much to bail them out. Anyone remember the last time a Moosehead goalie was named defensive player of the week?

Yeah great for him. What I think is most impressive is that the stats don't tell the half of it... a goalie can let in 2 goals in 2 games and it can be largely a product of the D in front of him and not facing much in the way of tough chances... But in the last two games he's stopped more then a handful of breakaways, odd man rushes, point blank chances and had a few amazing flurries of stops.
I don't think a switch has suddenly been flipped and I now expect this performance all of the time but if he keeps progressing and we see a few of these great games mixed in then it bodes well for the future.

Anyone remember the last time a Moosehead goalie was named defensive player of the week? I thought Yetman had one, but I checked the archives, and the last goalie was three years ago: Jeremy Duchesne in Oct of '06. Bodnarchuk was the last Moosehead to win the DPOTW, in November of 07

Is Matt draft eligible this year, anyone please and thanks. You have to be 18 by September 15th of the year so Corbeil was 18 on Sept 29th,2009 so missed last years draft by 14 days. I am not positive but I believe that he has been mentioned in some service or another as being on a watch list for this year. Would be great if he got the nod for CHL goalie of the week this week........publicity like that is great in your draft year.

Corbeil is 18, and will be eligible for the 2010 draft. He just missed 2009 eligibilty. Figures- I typed my response without bothering to look up his birthdate, assuming he got passed over last draft... well he keeps this up, he's making a case for a team to take a chance on him.

Well deseved honor for Corbeil, it is nice to see another team beside the Moose run into a hot goaltender.
It was not so much that he bailed the team out on the weekend........but he sure did bail out a few defensive errors. He just made the key saves at a time in both games when needed. Both games we were up 1-0 and Coreil came up big to keep it that way. We then kept the flow and extended our lead.
Too many times in the last few years it has been the opposite.......we dominate and don't score and the other team turns around and gets an easy one.
But again well deserved honor from a young goalie who is continuing to improve.

I think Fridays game will show how much Corbeil's confidence and positional play has improved. Big change in the last three games, hope he and the rest of the team have finally turned that corner.

Maybe the Moose will jump past the Titan this season. 10 pts behind with 1 game in hand. Still 40+ games left. ;D
