Smith, who else. If he shows the same kind of progress that he showed from his 16 to his 17 year this coming season, and people still make him the focus of their grief, so help me, they'll be grasping at straws. And I, as many will remember, was one of the most ardent Smith lambasters in his first season.

He's a big kid, and really at the end of last season he didnt look out of place.

Plenty of alcohol was flowing through me that night.

Wasn't that the game Saulnier potted a hat-trick?

I agree Smith made some progress in the offensive zone last year, but he was still pretty scary when the puck was in our end. He did improve his positioning in the defensive zone but still looked unsure of where to be lots of times. I wonder how much White/Yuri/Seize might have improved given the same ice time that Smith got. But given his size and another year MAYBE he might be good enough to play on a contender, like we should be this year. I personally think he should be being groomed as an enforcer.

It looked, at times last season, as if Smith was being melded into a - god help us - DiPaolo/Bernier hybrid; using his size more effectively, dropping the mitts from time to time, and looking strong in front of the net on the PP. I'd like to see Russell give him a little more PP time this coming season, just to see if Smith is willing to accept such a role. Maybe, play him regularly in a third-line role at full strength, and stick him in the slot on the second powerplay unit? Halifax does have a bit of a dearth of size up front...

I'd like to see Smith be a bit more aggressive, he could be a better asset to the team if he would fight a bit more. He's big and should play more with a chip on his shoulder. That's a hole on the Moose he could fill.
Smith, Pender, Lund could fill that role of toughness that this crop of Moose lacks.
Is Louis-Seize a guy who can play that role? Does he fight?
There's no need for a pure goon out there and Smith I think could be a good guy to step up if he has that mentality on the 3rd line.

Thing to remember about Smith as well, is he was only 17 last year. Not many 17 year olds actually do fight, even the bigger ones. At 16, he took on Victor, and got beat, and at that age it may have affected his agressivness. Last year, even though he wasn't assertive much.... when he was, he was really effective. I think it's more of a confidence thing. Once he realizes his strength, and that he can push around 90% of the players in the league, he might start. Then again, no matter how big you are, some guys just aren't comfortable doing that.

Smith isnt hockey strong...he has no balance on his skates, thats his main problem...he can get as strong as he wants hes still going to be bambi on skates... I think Smith will play 3rd line regardless of how camp goes...hes the owners son...hes going to get more of a shot to play 3rd line than Cheremetiev. Same old story.

Balance can come with maturity though. Improving his skating, plus adding strength to his lower body would improve his balance. That's not impossible for a 17 year old to do.

What about Louis-Seize though Lala - Is he a guy who can really play that energy/agitator roll and fight? or are we relying on Pender/Lund? if it comes to that in games?
