as per the Daily News, more in tomorrow's paper...
Not surprising really, he plateaud at 18 and could never be a 20 year old on a contender, playing line 3 or 4 again. Peters had an awful middle stretch of the season last year and still ended up over 20 goals playing mostly 3rd line roles... he gives us good scoring depth. Although if Pelletier arrives, we may be able to shop him for a pick.

Well that makes things a little clearer... not clearer... cleaner. We all knew Pouliot would be the odd man out for this coming season and it's better to have that figured out now and out of the way. He had some good puck skills and some good moves in the neutral zone but getting/driving to the net was never an ability he developed. The strength just never grew into the frame.
I fully expect Peters to be there at the start of the season though his spot will depend on the whole Pelletier situation. IMO he was the team's unsung hero in his rookie year and quietly put up 18 goals. Last year he had a horrible first half with 7 goals in his first 32 games but turned it around after Christmas with 15 goals in 29 games (a pace of about 35 goals).
I expected Peters to be the 2nd-3rd leading goal scorer on last year's team behind Swan but the horrible start hurt. He's in a tough spot being the 3rd 20 year old forward on a team that is pretty stacked up front and could upgrade in nets or on D. But on the other hand while he's here he could put the puck in the net just about as well as anyone next year. One problem he's got working against him is that he fell off in the playoffs last year where Swan and Pridham were leaders. It will be interesting to see if he makes it hard to trade him.

Peters is extremly streaky. Last year, he basically had 5 streaks. Problem for him, is he started cold, and ended cold. If he reversed that pattern, and started hot, and ended hot, he could be a 40 goal scorer. Many players tend to find that level of consistancy as 20 year olds, and Peters could be in line for a big year. Personally, I think Peters could get 6 or 7 games in before both Swan and Pelletier join the team (if they join the team). After that, you could probably get away with alternating situation for a time, with Peters, Swan and Pridham taking turns. You could also get Yetman into a couple games, and call up a back up and sit Pelletier. Peters could possibly get 12-15 games in before he runs his course, and if he's hot in that stretch, could have 10-12 goals. It would certainly help his value. The other end of it, is he could start cold, and just end up being released.

I highly doubt Halifax is going to be sitting Swan and Pridham for Peters....highly unlikely...Peters played 3rd line at best last year...Swan and Pridham were front line players.

There is no way the Moose will sit either Swan or Pridham in favour of Peters. Peters is very inconsistent, some games I have to check to even see if he is playing. He does have some good games, especially when he uses his speed. He would be the 3rd 20 year old at best.

And on top of those two being front line players, they're the two front runners to be named captain... they're the two big leaders on the team. He could get 10-20-30 games when Swan is away early and if the Pelletier trade doesn't happen early/doesn't happen and in those game put up a point per game or be on a 35+ goal pace but still be in the situation of seeming expendable. A guy like White could easily take his RW on the 3rd line. The Moose have good strength on the right side with Voracek, Swan, White and Peters.

Actually, AT BEST, he's a solid second liner. His problem isw that he isn't always at his best. In saying Swan or Pridham could sit, I mean, for 1 game, not on any permanent rotating basis. Just until a deal for Peters could be made, otherwise, you release him (unless he wants to stay as a 4th 20). It would be a way to get Peters an extra 4-5 games ~if they need to~, and if he's on fire, which he can get.

Peters was on the 4th line for large portions of last season....so I guess playing him instead of Swan and Pridham makes sense... Peters has zero to no trade value around the Q...playing him in 10 games in September wont really do anything for his value...plus at that point teams are set on their 3 20's.

I hope Pouliot comes back so I'll have a focus for my frustration this year. How do you plateau as a hockey player at 17? He should have been a 40 goal sniper in this league. The guy skates like a robot. I hope he realises there is no room.

Smith's an easy target. I'll swallow the next "X" of yrs (pending his 20 yr old status) because of obvious reasons, but I'm not a fan of freeloaders. They could lose every game 10-1, but as long as they're out there hustling, hitting and busting a nut on the opposition, I'll be there.
