Smith isnt hockey strong...he has no balance on his skates, thats his main problem...he can get as strong as he wants hes still going to be bambi on skates... I think Smith will play 3rd line regardless of how camp goes...hes the owners son...hes going to get more of a shot to play 3rd line than Cheremetiev. Same old story. Balance can come with maturity though. Improving his skating, plus adding strength to his lower body would improve his balance. That's not impossible for a 17 year old to do. Not impossible nope....but its not like he took a big step up in that category from 16 to 17.

What about Louis-Seize though Lala - Is he a guy who can really play that energy/agitator roll and fight? or are we relying on Pender/Lund? if it comes to that in games? I think Halifax will role 3 scoring type lines.... Top 6 forwards are: Voracek, MacMillan, Swan, Pridham, Hillier and Knotek... After that its Corsi and White...with likely Smith Louis-Seize and Cheremetiev will be on lien 4 with a rookie (Gilbert most of the time). Thats the way i see it shaking down to start the year...but anything can happen after that.

Thing to remember about Smith as well, is he was only 17 last year. Not many 17 year olds actually do fight, even the bigger ones. At 16, he took on Victor, and got beat, and at that age it may have affected his agressivness. Last year, even though he wasn't assertive much.... when he was, he was really effective. I think it's more of a confidence thing. Once he realizes his strength, and that he can push around 90% of the players in the league, he might start. Then again, no matter how big you are, some guys just aren't comfortable doing that. Smith isnt hockey strong...he has no balance on his skates, thats his main problem...he can get as strong as he wants hes still going to be bambi on skates... I know he looks unbalanced at odd times but when he's battling and driving along the boards people bounce off him... I see him as a guy that's very hard to knock off his skates. In that regard he reminds me a bit of Brault... Brault looked a bit awkward on skates but when it came to taking a hit and battling I don't think I saw Brault get knocked down more then a handful of times as a Moosehead. To me Smith looks very stable when it come to physical contact... I know lots of people are not crazy about him and dislike him getting time over certain players but I see him as a guy that brings something a little different to the Moose...

The reality is with this much firepower you likely don't need Pridham on a 3rd line in a checking role.

Lala - didn't you guys have Louis-Seize as one of the top 5 grittiest or dirtiest players (or something like that) in his draft 2 years back. Just wondering what that was and how he played in midget to get that vote and I think Cat is wondering if you think he can provide a fight side to his game.
We didn't get to see him much last year but when we did I liked what I saw. Always working and doesn't shy away from the physical side... brings a little of what may be lacking among Moose forward in grit.

Top 5 hardest hitters...he had 1 goal in AAA...so he knew his role LOL He was basically a 3rd liner and a prototypical one at that...he went out there, skated hard for 30 seconds, hit 2-3 guys, chiped pucks in and out and thats about it lol

I dont think he brings much of anything to be quite honest, but youre entitiled to your opinion. When you look at a player, you have to ask yourself what does he bring to the table? With Smith...he doesn't bring much to be quite honest.

Ive never seen him fight...id say hes more like an energy player. A useful player to have...i think he may surprise some people.

With Smith...he doesn't bring much to be quite honest. He was 17 last year and very very raw, unless Smith has peaked I think he'll become a pretty good power forward for the Moose. Also, the kid seems very coachable and a play-the-role-you're-given player. Work the boards, go to the front of the net and get the garbage and he does it... I remember the most frustrating thing about Cormier was that he'd be put on the PP and beside the net half the time. The kid is in a strange situation with his father but you can tell he wants to prove himself and be a leader on the team... that's the reason I think he'll become a good player on this team. He's got size that he's using more and more, a pretty good shot and show some odd toughness or grit. What he lacks is grace, a first step and some vision. I know this is all just our opinions... that I like Smith and what I think he brings/will bring and that you would much rather see Cheremetiev. Cheremetiev I don't know how to read. I remember his first preseason game in CHP vs. the Fog Devils and him ripping a goal top corner... I've been waiting to see that again ever since. I just don't see him creating... plays well/gets some production with great linemates but I just don't see him creating on his own.

He lacks one major component...hockey sense I dont want to rag on the kid because he works hard and he seems to have a good attitude but growing up in PHX screwed him hockey wise. He has the skills but he doesnt know systems and he doesnt know where to be on the ice...after 2 years youd think he'd be further along.
