Wouldn't anything less then winning the scoring title be considered a flop. They gave up 2 players and 3 first round draft picks for a player that most think will only play 2-3 years before being in the NHL In his 2nd year, absolutely. Right away? No. The price isn't that far off from what Marchand cost for 1 playoff run.

I wonder what donger thinks of the moves that the "baboon" has pulled off this summer. Yea what a shock donger isn't around . But then the first 3 game losing streak we have, or if MacKinnon doesn't score a goal for 2 games, she'll pop back up with some garbage post. Same old. Where's sharrow lately too? All these people who flooded the board over the last 3 years have mysteriously gone missing over the summer.

I haven't heard of a Nathan MacKinnon Day, and MacKinnon hasn't received a key to the city yet. Thus Marchand's price was a steal! ;D

Hopefully the Mooseheads organization holds true to their word and doesn't over-hype MacKinnon. Last thing we need is to put way too much pressure on the kid. Not everyone out there has a Crosby-like knack of exceling at a young age under huge amounts of pressure. The hype is already huge around this kid. Lets let him show us what he can do. I already feel bad for projecting how many points he will get without even seeing him play one game in the Q.
I imagine a 9000 person crowd on Sept 16 against Bathurst will be enough pressure for him.

Lets put his face on the bus and the season ticket booklet and have a promotion where he donates $22 to the IWK for every goal he scores, you know, to match the number on his jersey. I bet that would work out well.

I should submit it to urbandictionary To Désjardins someone: Is to put entirely too much pressure on a hockey player for no good reason.

I'm pretty sure they'll try and keep things sane. Cam and Bobby are aware of the hype, so I think they'll be keen to keep an eye on him and make sure it doesn't overwhelm him.
But MacKinnon has been groomed for this. He knew it was coming and I think he'll be ok. That doesn't mean the team should put the PR on overdrive...and it doesn't mean we as fans can expect perfection every night, but he's not exactly your average rookie who's going to be getting his first taste of the spotlight. Just look at how he did in the Canada Games. The star attraction of the home team....playing with inferior talent on his team....every other team was focusing on him...and yet he did very well.

I was thinking about him and how many points he can put up. And Lala compared him to boys who were top drafted players to the NHL. The big thin is the players he named play in the O and West, both better defensive leagues. So if MacKinnon is on the same scale as them he should put up a touch better in a weaker league. I'm thinking he'll play 60 to 65 games (under 17s/ maybe world jr camp invite, big maybe) and a bit better then a point a game. Were looking at 70 to 75ish. His line mates was another thing I was thinking of. I think Frk is going to be his right winger. I would like to see Luca on the left. Reason being he'll be here next year and that could be a line for 2 years instead of a one and done with Grenier. Someone was saying not to put Ryan at center but him Grenier and Ashley would be a strong second line. Then you gotta look at PP time. We will have the strongest PP we had in a long time. Throw a line of MacKinnon Grenier Luca and Frk and Abby run the point. I like the look of that. The OHL has outscored the QMJHL the last 4 seasons...not many people know this or choose to awknowledge it.

The great thing is that while all eyes will be on MacKinnon, guys like Frk, Ciampini and Drouin (who by most accounts could/should be another standout rookie) can steal some spotlight under much less pressure. Everyone is trying to predict how many pts MacKinnon wil get and how dominant he will be, but I`m just as excited to see where Frk and Ciampini are, and how effective Drouin can be right off the bat. Then you have the other less flashy names like Ashley, Grenier and Ryan. Cannot wait! Another small but good thing is we will have most of this young talent right from the start, as barely anyone will be off at NHL camps diluting the roster. Good time to take some wins off top teams missing some veteran talent.

I think most people on this board are forgetting about Drouin ! He might surprise a lot of fans this season.

To those comparing MacKinnon to guys like Couturier and Huberdeau, wasn't MacKinnon supposed to be the best prospect to come along since Crosby? If so, that would put him at a level above those guys. Expectations should, and will be high for him, especially after the price paid to get him. In all likelyhood, he will only be in Halifax for two years, so we need to get 2 players and 3 first round picks out of him in that time

I think most people on this board are forgetting about Drouin ! He might surprise a lot of fans this season. Nobody is forgetting about Drouin. One thing that hasn't been brought up, is just how sick our SO line-up will be: 1) Frk 2) Grenier 3) MacKinnon 4) Drouin 5) Ashley 6) Ciampini 7) Ryan 8) Boudreau I like our chances. ;D

... Ideally, if he plays on the top line with Grenier and Frk we'll see him put up in the 60-70 range. I'll be over the moon with 70+.[/quote]
I'd really like to see a right hand shot sniper like Frk or Grenier (hopefully he's sniper material) on MacKinnon's left wing. He'll make space for his wingers with his speed and skills. MacKinnon being a right shot setting up a right shot on the left wing for one-timers would be lethal especially if it's Frk with his howitzer (no offense "Howitzer").

Good time to take some wins off top teams missing some veteran talent. I was thinking about that the other day... the team has seemingly been trying to one-up itself for the last 14 months or so. Pick Ciampini 2nd overall and the first high end pick in a long time, doesn't hurt either that in the next round you add very dangerous Ashley, wait a month and they are forgotten when Frk becomes part of the puzzle. Now this year they pull off one of the bigger trades in Moose history adding Drouin to get us drooling, and quietly a franchise goalie?, a month later we're hearing Hardy should finally become a Moosehead. And to top it off they complete possibly the most important trade in team history and add MacKinnon without it costing any off the above... and it feeling affordable with a windfall from Erne. Throw Ryan, Grenier... actual picks left over... momentum. I'm just as interested in seeing some of the depth guys and what they can do as well.
