It was announced on the radio tonight that Serge met with the city of Charlottetown today and assured them he was not planning on moving the team....just as we had already heard. BUT.....he also announced that he has no plans to make a coaching change!! If this is what he said, it's not a surprise that he would say that he has no plans to make a coaching change, because really what is he going to say "I am thinking of firing Jean so I can bring in a new coach" while Jean is still here. Of course he is not going to say something like that before it would actually happen. I'm not saying it's inevitable that Savard is going to make such a change, but I can't see him or any other GM come out and publically say they are actively searching for a new coach while he already has a coach in place. But if Savard was indeed being totally serious about not making a coaching change, it will make me start to wonder if Savard is the right person for GM also. If he is happy with Jean's coaching so far and with the way the team is performing for him, then the Rocket has deeper issues than what was originally thought. by the same token he isn't going to come out and say hey i'm lookin into sellin/movin the team either ..... note to flipper.. i'm not saying i believe he is moving the team just making a point.... so about those efforts to improve things...................

All these candiates for coaching seem to be good choices.
The next coach must be like like Jean because I don't think Serge wants to give up the gm and his coaching job.
Remember when Jean was suspended who took over. Right
I think he is still calling the shots from his hide away and as long as everybody is blaming the present coach he is off the hook.

Another potential coaching candidate popped into my head this weekend. He's long on experience in other leagues... lots of tier 2 experience across the country and a successful career in the AUS......
..... Bedeque native Gardiner MacDougall. He currently coaches at UNB and has always run a very successful program there. He's the type of guy who should've been in major junior a while ago, but I'd say is comfortable in university hockey.
He's a quality coach from PEI with an impressive resume.

i agree country, but something tells me he would not leave the security of his position at unb, to take over the rocket. but would believe he is a good option.

A name that CB mentioned in the very first thread, that I would love to see here:
Gerard Gallant.
I feel he could be one of the better candidates if available. He is not however, as he's with the Islanders.
Love his intensity behind the bench.

Didn't Atlanta just fire a coach with Q experience, oh yeah...BOB HARTLEY. He could be looking for a team to coach.

Former PEI Senators coach Dave Allison would be my choice, but he is head coach of the AHL's Iowa Stars. Sometimes tough to move from AHL to Major Junior, where he has already successfully coached the OHL's Kingston team

I don't follow much OHL, but I know they're a team with lots of history and a short list of championships (maybe none?).... one of the biggest examples of over the years mediocrity in the CHL? cb

So, what coaches that are actually available could be considered?

considering the rocket have won 9 of last possible 10 points, i highly doubt there is a coaching change being looked at right now. but who knows..

Just because the Rocket have won a few games, it doesn't mean that suddenly Jean has become a good coach. The Rocket are not going to win anything as long as Jean is behind the bench, he has shown that the last 2+ years. I still think that Jean got to go and the sooner the better.
As far as what coaches are available....not sure who is readily available as long as it is the right choice and it's not because of where they are from or because they are a big name.

As happy as I am with our win tonight, we have to admit we had some good luck and great goaltending behind us. We are still a mess in our own zone. It always seems that guys are taking the wrong man and then everyone gets thrown off. We don't losr nearly as many battles in our D zone as it appears, D all do a good job of keeping their man on the perimeter. Prob is the coverage away from the puck. We always seem to leave someone wide open

Guy Chouinard get out of the closet and he is taking Jean coaching job in PEI.
The Rocket gave him a 3 year contract
