There was alot to like tonight.. boys definitely played harder than we've seen.. pk was excellent.. everyone dressed saw early icetime.. and some unusual suspects even saw late icetime (Paynter, Cliche etc).. and our coach was definitely very active behind the bench... unfortunately it all disappeared with a god awful last 10 minutes featuring a brutal gwg that i think jf bernard could have stopped
but other than that and a dreadful pp.. i was pleased.. gonna take some time for Chouinard to fix all that was broken... give him time i have faith he can do it
p.s. Latal should stick to scoring goals and leave the fighting to the Gallants of the world

Well....Guy has to be happy that he has inherited a team who can skate (and beat) the best team in the league.....
He was watching tonight (as we all were) and he certanly has the cerdentials to fix what is not right.....
Think by the end of the year we will be a power house!!! If Guy keeps playing all lines.....

Lots of positives tonight, eventhough we didnt get the win. We still have to improve on our shots though and have to play a full 60 mins game

It would of been a better game if they didn't play in the third like they already won the game. The first 2 periods were excellent hockey to watch. I like that the new coach uses all lines and doesn't wear down our best players. Latal should not fight. We need his skill much more on the ice. Main had lots of ice and that was nice to see. He is a pretty solid D man. Southorn's hip check was unreal. I hope to see some more of these out of him this year.

good game? where was i .....forget the new coach crap. we were outshoot 2-1.... brutual giveaways in our end , dreadful gwg.
power play was horrible.
we will not be a "powerhouse" by years end unless some changes in personnel are made. we are a third or four place team...write that down and see you in march

C'mon Wallee....it's only Game 1 under the new guy. Yes there were some moments in the 3rd we'd rather forget, but after the boys settled down the 1st and 2nd periods were full of good uptempo hockey. I saw a lot of good, clean physical play that we just haven't seen so far. Noticed the 3rd line seemed a little tired in the thrid period...guess they're not used to the extra ice time... ;D. Don't forget we were playing the best team in the league. If I told you two weeks ago we'd win 6-2 and then only lose 6-4 (technically 5-4...empty netters are just that) to them you would have thought I was off my rocker. Chouinard had what, one practice with them so far. If we play the full game on Fri night like we did the 1st two periods tonight then the Fog Devils are in trouble. I agree with bois....Latal SHOULD NOT be fighting....sett merciful jezzsus....god blees 'em he stood up for himself, but we don't need Marty on the self with a broken finger or something. Doyle I thought played one of his better games tonight. His feed to Walker was simply stunning in the 1st. Used his size and created a lot of chances. On whole we may have been outshot, but if a few of those shots bounced in it could have easily been another 6-2 game for the Rocket. I'd say within the next couple of weeks we will start seeing real changes by the Nov. 9 game against Val D'Or and if we are a 3rd place team....I'll take that right now over where we were 2-3 weeks ago. Woody - I knew that Atlanta jersey had bad mojo .

Personally I was really pleased with the effort and play in the first two periods. As expected the boys had a little more jump and they also started to show a little more forecheck pressure in the offensive zone.
I also really liked how gave our top line a lot of ice time but really balanced out ice time to our other three lines all night.
I thought Gelinas has a really solid 50 mins but the game winner especially is tough to swallow.
I agree with reggie Doyle had one of his best games tonight and that line continues to dominate they simply overpassed a few too many times.
I thought Kana had a strong game and made a lot happen and Coon-Come played well also.
And it was great to see Locke back playing although his ankle was clearly still bothering him. I hope it wasn't too early to come back because that kind of injury can linger if you don't let it heal properly.
IMO this was one of Southorn's best games of the year and under Chouinard he will quickly start getting that ice time he deserves.
Clow also played well in the first and 2nd although I didn't really notice him in the third.
On the negatives side the only player who looked out of place was Cliche and I would much prefer to see MacLean or even DesRoches in his place.
As for Chouinard even Friday and Saturday will early for him to start to juggle things around although i will be interested to see if there are any adjustments. His real influence should start to kick in after then.
But overall if the boys play like they did the first 40 mins that is the kind of effort that is going to get things turned around.

Even though I didn't like the come from behind loss, I liked that game and how they played. I thought the effort was there and the guys actually worked most of the night, I think they just simply ran out of gas, perhaps conditioning is one of those things that need to be worked on.
I liked the penalty kill as the Rocket seemed to be all over them with pressure. Even though the power play had a hard time setting up at times, but once they did, I liked how they were shooting quicker and more often and I especially liked how the defenseman would be pinching in from the point.
The 4th line even had a shift within the first 3 minutes of the game and even played when the game was tied in the third. For the most part the forward lines were kept together, a little tweaking as the game went on, but at least no constant juggling. Also liked how they were breaking out of their own zone, it wasn't always the same play everytime.
I felt bad for Gelinas on the winning goal, it was a softie, but it looked like he lost site of it through a player for a second and when he found it again, it was too late.
It will be interesting to see how the team as a whole (players and coaches) reacts to the loss. In the past, this kind of loss used to happen too much and will be interesting to see how it's handled now by the coaches and players, before it seemed liked it was too acceptable at times.
It's going to take a few games for adjustments and such, but other than blowing the lead, all in all I liked what I saw.

seriously,
overall we played about how i would have expected them to play. they seemed to put more effort in last night, which they should without saying with the new coach in his first game.
i dont really think we ran out of gas. the third period was a period where we tried to hang on to a two goal lead. we hung back and showed no offensive play at all. we continually just cleared the puck. eventually it catches up to u, and it did.
there is no question at all that cape breton is a far superior team. certainly guy needs some time to organize, teach and adjust things but we do not have the players to win this year. we are a third or fourth place team plain and simple, no matter who coaches this team.
all you have to do is closely watch the quality of our passes. cape breton move the puck fast and accurate, when we try (most of the time) to speed it up our passes become very poor. this is due to skill level. our team does not have the same level of skill.
they will do better with guy no question , but not a huge amount. we needed a change of direction and now we have it. we will see some good games , but a title, i think not.
enjoy the games, forget about the winning. as for next year, our player personell does not appear to improve from this year.

Speaking of this, was anyone else under the impression that whoever was totalling the shots dropped the ball last night? I kept looking up at the shot clock expecting it to get closer and it was always I wide gap. It didn't at any point in the game seem like they were outshooting us. In fact it felt like the opposite. Maybe we just controlled the play more and didn't get the puck on the net a lot, I dunno... but as far as I could tell we outplayed them the whole game, other then the last 10 minutes of course.

The puck seemed to be bouncing really bad last night as well. They need to freeze them a bit better I think. Both teams were having trouble with it.

Well it felt good to be back in the rink feeling optimistic even if we blew a two goal lead with 7 minutes left.
It was great to see 4 lines play. Third line appeared to be shocked when they went out to start one of the PPs. I didn't think anyone was coming on at first. As an aside, its true old habits die hard as Joey headed for the Rocket penalty box when he got called in the first. He looked stunned when they did not open the gate for him.
It was apparent that conditioning is a real problem for a number of players. Maybe because they did not get regular ice time and are in shape to play 10 minutes out of 60. But They really have to pick this up.
Puck movement in the offensive zone seemed to pretty good. In our end and heading out to neutral ice it was poor. biggest problem is guys floating and not skating. They need to develop a system that has them moving. Too many passes to guys standing still. Overall we have a pretty good group of skaters. Hoping the new coach get their feet moving.
Line changes need work. The guys failed to get the puck in deep too often when they were heading for a change and the lines coming off coast to the bench. No excuse for that!
Defense needs to tighten up. I thought Gervais had a pretty solid game except for that gaff late in the third where he coughed it up. For an experience defenseman Lessard turned it over too often. He's gonna have to pick it up. Parker Deighan had a rough night. He was out muscled along the boards. Not sure he's ready for this league yet. Given his size he's going to have to improve his foot work and puck handling or he'll be knocked off the puck all year. I hardly noticed Clow last night but to me that means he was getting his job done and not getting in trouble. AS for Southorn He had a pretty good game . I could not see the hip he threw all I could see were legs and sakes as the CB player cart wheeled over him.
The forwards have to finish their checks. There's way too much skating in and waving the stick a bit and turning back up ice on the fore check.
Anyway there is lots of talent to work with, but I hope Santa brings us a solid 18 or 19 year old defenseman to solidify the back line for the rest of the year and into next season.

Forgot about Locke's return....he looked good. Southorn had one of the best moves of the night with his hip check flip....beauty!
Like I said by the Nov 9th home date Guy should have a pretty good read of this squad.
