Draft Pick

The article rubbed me the wrong way. It's nothing against Peyton Hoyt or the fact that he's excited about going to CB, that is a pretty good story for the fans to read.................... but to write that and not even acknowledge the Shane Bowers question marks just seems like the CB post giving the Eagles a fluff piece in the sports section to distract people from the potential 'Bowers situation' It's nice to report the good but you should at least ask about the bad. The article was about Hoyt. It was a positive story about a draft pick that is actually excited to come to Cape Breton. Who wants to read a story about a kid who doesn't want to report? There is a reason that nobody is saying anything about Shane Bowers right now - Same thing happened for weeks leading up to the draft after the decision to decline Joseph Veleno initially. Nobody said anything but there was plenty going on behind the scenes the entire time and such is the case for Bowers. As far as Peyton Hoyt I've seen a lot of Hoyt over the past couple of seasons and I think this is a very good pick for Cape Breton. I've had the chance to speak to several scouts about Hoyt leading up to the draft and the Challenge and Hoyt was right up there with Bowers at the event. I'm not suggesting he's a better prospect long term than Bowers but he really impressed scouts there. Im with you here - Fans will love this kid and how he plays, he is a 4/5 on every 'tangible' ... a coaches dream really, you can put him in any situation and he will be comfortable. I cant wait to see how he progresses the next couple of years. Not sure I agree with the previous poster on the Bowers thing, i mean why report on something that has no new actual news ? You really think fans need to hear 'again' that he wont report?

I would assume someone has asked, but were told when there is news you'll find out. If the kid indeed is not reporting, and it certainly looks that way, then the issues why should be addressed for future concerns. This is not a Quebec kid wanting to stay in Quebec. This is a Nova Scotia kid only 250 miles away from home.

The Post is not going to get anything because Bowers and Co. are not talking to the media about it and neither are the Screaming Eagles until the issue is resolved. The fact that nobody is talking about it tells me there is a strong likelihood that what people are hearing is true regarding the entire situation. If it wasn't true they would have stomped this out by now.
CB has been trying to work out trades but so far other than a couple rumours nothing real substantial has been reached but credit for trying. The unfortunate thing is CB are probably not going to get what some people are hoping for even if the trade route does happen - I'm still leaning towards USHL myself as the end result but hope something gets worked out.

I certainly hope that a fair deal can be reached. I do tend to agree that it may not be what some are expecting. I don't think that Noel will be part of any package and frankly we would be lucky to get an even swap at this point. I would think a fair deal at this point would be Highmore, Tessier, and the 1st that Saint John holds for 2016. Will that happen, probably not. I can only speak for myself, but I'm not a happy fan as to where all this may be going. I personally thought it was a bad move to deal the 1st at Christmas last year. I know hindsight is 20/20 and it's easy to be an armchair GM, but if this Bowers deal falls through there should be some pissed season ticket holders. I think I'm not alone, as a fan, in wanting more than a 1 year team and full rebuild next year. If the Bowers deal falls through management will have some tough decisions. We may be lucky to beat Saint John this year, let alone next, but I also wouldn't want to go so deep in this year that we get blown out of the rink the next two seasons. I think Highmore could easily be our #2 center (and well Martineau could easily step up this year). Tessier could definitely fill a 3rd line spot. Highmore's value is fair to say bottom 1st. Tessier was a 15th overall and PEI's 1st for next year should be between 10-15th. I think it is reasonable to think that would be fair to both teams. It's tough enough knowing we traded the pick that landed a possible future superstar in Valeno. It not only would be compounded by losing Bowers, but even more so by not getting fair compensation for him. I personally would rather watch these type players develop than making a one time run for the Cup. That all said, I am still holding faith that Dumont will get a fair deal done.

Apparently I'm unreasonable for expecting the sports section of the local paper to cover the local hockey team.
It's ridiculous to write a big article about the #6 pick and not mention that: A) There's speculation that your #4 pick may not report or B) M-A Dumonts comment on that situation, even if it's a cliche
This is something I'd expect on the CBSE website, written by the club itself.
Edit: I should mention, I don't mean it should be tagged with the Hoyt story. Hoyt deserves some attention, not many 6th overall picks are talked about as little as he has been. What I mean is, this Bowers situation should have been mentioned by the CB Post by now and to start writting about the #6 pick and not mentioning the Bowers situation is a bit silly. Not every CB fan is on here (not that there is much info on here about Bowers), the casual fans are still confused as hell, I hear them every day.

The CB Post was once pretty good at covering The Eagles back in the Brad Rowe Days but since then it has been mediocre at best .

Generally speaking, if you want to acquire something of value, you have to pay a price to get it. Saint John will no doubt be a competitive team this year. But they should be even more so next year and beyond. After acquiring Veleno, it would make sense that their main focus is next year plus. It would also make sense to acquire, if available, the player you had marked as a 1st overall up until Veleno became available. I don't understand why anyone would think that you can acquire a top prospect without giving up anything of value.

As well, will Bowers be a game changer for them this year. Likely not. They want to get better this year not worse.

I don't think the value is as high as some people hope it would be or in most cases should be - That being said I think CB will have to put something together soon or they will settle for #9 Overall. They could have gotten plenty more at the draft for the #4 pick than what they might end up with (#9) but that's the gamble they were willing to take I guess.
