The PEI Rocket Hockey Club has released Forward Martin Latal to participate in the World Under 20 Championship held in Pardubice & Liberec, Czech Republic from December 25, 2007 till January 5, 2008.
The speedy Rocket forward was a 5th round draft pick (#131) by the Phoenix Coyotes at in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He was a first round pick (#37) in the 2006 CHL Import Draft by the Rocket. The 5'11", 170 lb, native of Olomouv, Czech Republic scored 18 goals and had 28 assists in his rookie year last season.

Congrats indeed.
This should be a good elearning experience for him. I hope this is the change he needs to get his game to come together.

where is he on the Czech dept chart? is he going to get any icetime i wonder or is he gonna be a 3/4 liner?

If he's not on the top lines then perhaps it will show him just how much work he needs to continue to do to advance to that level.
Overall should be good for his development and should help him help us in the 2nd half....if he's still here.
It's not often that a player gets to play for their country and congrats to Marty...savour the moment.

is this a tryout or has he actually made the team?
congrats to him either way.. but i can't honestly see him doing much if he plays in the main tourney.. he is struggling to make an impact in the Q right now.. the WJC is a major step above that.. good luck Marty

It's a tryout. The Czechs haven't picked their team yet. CB's Jan Pisckaseck and of course Halifax's Jakub Voracek are among those also headed to the training camp.

... he is struggling to make an impact in the Q right now.. the WJC is a major step above that.. good luck Marty Might be just what he needs. Some players play at the level of those around them. I think he'll rise to the challenge. |

Hopefully he turns his game around when he gets back as he is in a big slump. Good luck A slump?? I've got him in the Q pool. He was on fire there for the first 14 games with 9 goals and 10 assists. I'm not crazy enough to have expected him to continue on a 2pt per game clip, but figured he was a lock for at least a ppg which would have been a great 4th round pickup (I picked him in the 4th round) Now, the last 14 games, he's got 0 goals and 2 assists. Man, that's more than a slump. Some #6 defensemen or 4th liners would call that a slump  What the hell is up with him? I've not seen a heck of a lot of Rocket games...has he been on the 4th line for the last month or so?? |

I like Latal and think he is alot better then he is playing right now but not as good as some ppl say. We may have seen his last home game as well if we have Good Luck to him. |

What exactly does that mean "bringin other players down with him"? Either your quote is wrong(very possible) or the announcers are desperate for something to talk about. As a matter of fact I think both Gallant and DesRoches look better when paired with Latal. 2. It's called speed and just in case you missed it, that's what makes the game more interesting. |
