My only advice is remember the P.E.I. Senators. If the Q leaves that’s it. You will NEVER see another higher level of hockey enter this city. Such a belief would be laughable if it were not so prevalent. Wake up PEI!!! Wake up St. John's!!! If you lose your QMJHL clubs there will be many long, cold winters with no high caliber hockey to watch. Indeed! Following the St John's ownership fiasco, the league apparently has adopted a policy to the effect that if a team folds in a city, that city has to wait a minimum of TEN YEARS before applying for a team again. Given what things are like around here, might as well say "Never".

you people got too much time on your hands. its just the internet. So what are you saying? That we should be posting? Not posting? That we should care Reggie left? Not care? What's your point? Making a post to tell the board your leaving, and to type something up that long? Who really cares.

If its just a talk board why are you on it? if u think its so foolish. Making a post like that does mean a lot cause If Reggie Didn't Then everyone would wounder where hes at and wounder why he is not posting. #00 Still Lives ON. Be Well Missed

You are one of those posters that people usually skip when they see a post made by yourself. Anyhow. See ya soon Reg, and have a good Holiday!

Countsheep Frank , you were the one always dumping on the Guardian.Stick to umpiring baseball, at least you are a few laughs doing that. It's ironic, actually, REALLY ironic, this time. Look no further; a lot of what is in this thread, and the post quoted above in particular, illustrates WHY it is that people leave. I'm not going to judge Reggie for leaving, or for posting at length to explain why he's leaving - Reggie has his reasons, leave it at that. But posts like the one quoted above really say it all. Random, irrelevant personal attacks slamming another poster. If it isn't bashing another poster, then it's attacking a Rocket player, coach, member of management. Bloodhound, you're gutless, using the cowardly cover of anonymity to make a personal attack; you may not like my umpiring, but I would dare you to explain what that has to do with the Rocket, or with Reggie, or with anything else on this board, for that matter. Our own nastiness is making this board an unpleasant place to visit for some, obviously.....and that's why they leave, some openly, some quietly. Enough said.

Excellent, a must-read for all posters. Now we know why Reg left, and we might want to look at ourselves a little more closely Thank you very much.

It's definitely an interesting position to be in when watching and discussing these young hockey players because so much is unknown. A 16yr old can come in and look like a star and instantly give the fans hope of a future superstar then level out and suddenly disapoint. And a 16yr old kid sitting in the stands for a season can be a superstar 2 years later. That's the thing with Jr hockey....there are no guarantees a player is going to be as good as someone plans and for reasons we may not know or understand might not want to play hockey at all because it takes a special type of individial to leave home at 16 or 17 and enter the daily grind that is the QMJHL.
If you played on the Eagles, my local team, this year you started training camp in mid-August. Then from September 14th to December 15th you play 39 hockey games plus practices plus school. That's a damn tough schedule and a principle reason we had a couple kids go home, they just didn't want to go through it.
That brings me to the message boards. I think they're both very good and very bad. The very good is that fans of teams get to interact with other local fans they may not know and develop friendships based around that. Also discussing other teams with their fans can eventually lead to some contacts you wouldn't necessarily expect to do spending time on an internet messageboard.
I actually know someone years ago who was approached by a somewhat high profile agent in the hockey world because of posts on a messageboard for reports on the players he had on a local Q team. As much as all the posters here are amateurs, there are some very smart people who post here and probably know as much or more about the league and it's players then some of the people employed by teams in the league.
The bad part is the anonymous nature. Anyone can create an account and sit behind their computer and talk trash about the local whipping boy. There are STILL fans in Cape Breton talking bad about JC Sawyer I think, even after an all star 20yr old season and a pro contract and I don't think any knowledgeable fan would of been suprised if he wanted out but he played through the criticism on his way to being an all star which is what you love to see.
I think there is a line to not cross. As you grow older and wiser you start to see that line clearer. Even i'll admit I posted some stupid things as a teenager that I'd probably keep to myself as a young adult. We all want our own team and it's players to be successful, constructive criticism is fine but ripping into a kid for an off game is a bit much at times and kind of defeats the purpose of all this.
We all need to remember that these forums are not our own personal soap boxes. They're for discussing our local teams and local rivalries while keeping things somewhat civil. That's not to say you shouldn't voice your opinions if someone is playing bad, but its the constant nature(see: Daniel Smith, Halifax Mooseheads) that gets to me. Yes, the teams read these boards. But posting constant bashing about the kids does nobody any good.
But I still thing the good outweighs the bad. All the good stuff about the message boards shouldnt be ruined by a few idiots. I joke sometimes you should have to pass a test to post here, and some people actually make that thought not too bad of an idea.

If nothing else, this whole thing has made me think about some things I may have posted in the past and will make me think before I hit that Submit button in the future. I'm really glad that I got this wakeup call, and I appreciate it Coney.

I really think this whole "I'm outta here" posting is snowballing and I'm sure I'll be accused of helping it. But don't you think this all getting a bit too much. Reggie made a decision (albeit in colorful fashion), so let’s move on and stop feeling sorry for ourselves. This is a public forum and that means people will express their views and some will cross the line, that the nature of this beast. What we need is some blockbuster trade to get us out of this lull we’re in. And oh yeah, season’s greetings to all
