Why will this guy not give it up already? Manages one + "stories" a day to get the WildCats name in ink finding any thin excuse to fill the Moncton paper. Sad really!

Let's not shoot the messenger for doing his job I'm sure he's not happy having to pull at straws trying to find positive content to print. One thing is for sure some day all this crap will pass and hopefully the owner will learn all re build cycles are not optional.

Since society no longer wants to pay for news in that format it has to become a publication with no integrity produced for and by the corporation paying the bills. Bigger question is if it's been so bad for so long why do you still read it? There's bigger issues with the media then why is a paid employee writing a story he is told to write. On the flip side should be write nothing but doom and gloom for 18 months? Maybe trash the team in the printed publication they own until nobody wants to watch them. Yeah, that should sell papers!

I don't subscribe to any of the Irving controlled media outlets, my only subscription is to the on-line Globe and Mail which I consider far superior in all respects.

Needs to be said:
1. Every major junior team with a beat reporter from a daily is lucky, as are its fans. Occasional coverage and no coverage are way worse than coverage you don't love reading.
2. Specifically, the Wilcats' near-daily coverage in the TT exceeds the coverage of the other NB teams and the Islanders. (I don't read the Sydney or Hali papers.) The frequency of stories means much deeper coverage of players and prospects.
3. Beat reporters are all a little soft on the teams they cover. It's normal and understandable.
4. If you don't liked reading someone's stories, why don't you just stop reading them and go on with your life?

Gotta say though, your musings are usually worth the read.

Needs to be said: 3. Beat reporters are all a little soft on the teams they cover. It's normal and understandable. That translates, in my view to a decidedly lack of objectivity and critical analysis on the subject being covered. As posted previously I do not subscribe to the Irving media and see/ read very little of Hodge outside of references posted here and musings on various social media sites.

Can't wait for the middle of summer thread that is complaining that Neil Hodge hasn't done any articles in a while Seems to be a yearly thread around here.

Hodge should begin punching up his articles with stories about the upcoming Wildcats golf tournament.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with the coverage Neil Hodge provides the Wildcats. It is not the most hard hitting journalism, and can be a cheerleaderish at times, but the same can be said of the entire T & T publication - for all its flaws, in my opinion, it remains the most complete source of local coverage. Obviously not the level of journalism found in the Globe and Mail, but they are two different beasts, each with their role to play IMO.

I guess what I'm saying is, basically, we don't deserve better. Objective, critical journalism about sports has essentially died over the last thirty years because it's expensive and readers/viewers won't pay for it. That's increasingly true of journalism generally, in my opinion, but it's especially so for sports. There are a handful or two outlets willing to pay a beat reporter to be honest 24/7 while covering a local team daily -- check NYC and LA -- but not many.
