I'm starting to think we shouldn't sell off at Christmas. I'm not saying to buy either but we could really use Tessier and Grametbauer next year. Welsh should be moved though , maybe for a defenceman coming back at the draft. The roster is coming together nicely.
Grametbauer (20) Waite (19)
LeCoultre(19) - ? Bellamy(17) Auger(18) Tucker(18) - Arsenault(19)
Pelletier(17) - Cyr(19) - McKenna(19) MacDonald(18) - Tessier(20) - Campanelli(19) Kuzmin(19) - Seitz(19) - Blackmore(19) Aspirot(19) - Boulianne(17) - Hudson(18)
There's still holes to fill no doubt. I think goaltending is pretty shored up. Defenceman will be the challenge for sure. Also leaving out Khovanov and I'm sure we could land a decent free agent or two considering the fact of the new building and we'll be amongst contenders. And we'd still have an open 20 slot.

The d is already a concern and then your automatically lose Welsh. I still think the best plan is to hit a couple of big trades for some key players(2-3 top guys) where you get a 1st rounder, good young player plus possibly a good player as futures. The team can still compete but you grow the core. My objective is a memorial Cup contender, not sure ownership is on the same page...

I dont necessarily disagree with you on most points, but it depends when the Wildcats want to contend...i have a feeling it will be next year. In which case, you dont trade Grametbauer or Tessier. As far as defense goes, then we need a big upgrade...i'd say we need a 1D and 3D...minimum. and, YES, Aspirot is now a fulltime Dman, as he was drafted- If you look at the ages of our players, i suspect we will be better with McKenna and Cyr as 19 yr olds then we will be when MacDonald is 19 and Pelletier is 18. My reasoning is we dont have a goalie for sure. But at least it would give the Cats a chance to improve on D...which could also be done this summer via trade...

The Waite injury makes things a little more complicated on the goalie front. In an ideal world him & and Grametbauer would have been splitting the starts to this point and we'd know if Waite took a step forward or not. Hopefully he gets back to action soon so we can see if he can be a serviceable #1 for the rest of the season and a top goaltender the next 2 seasons.
If he can then trading Grametbauer does make sense if we can get some high end assets back and still leave our goaltending in a good spot.
This is a team that could do some damage in the playoffs this season even if they traded 2 of Tessier/Grametbauer/Welsh.

I think the smart strategy would be to hang onto Grametbauer and Tessier for next season , trade Welsh and if possible Dunda. Try to add a defenceman in those trades for next season. We still have a decent cupboard of picks which gives us room to make the necessary moves next season. The problem is to decipher which teams are looking to add, League leaders at the moment are for the most part in rebuild mode.

to get Joseph and trade him within the division to arguably biggest rival
i'd think that costs you first plus maybe first down the road plus Bellamy
then maybe one of the firsts goes back for Jeremy McKenna

We need to stay the course and not move our High Picks and Futures. Grametbauer and Welsh should be premium assets at the deadline and even if we decide Waite isn't going to cut it and decide to keep Grametbauer because we can still move him next year as a 20 year old goalie.
What does everyone think of Jack Tucker... Is he showing enough to expect to develop into a top 2 D in a year or two?

In terms of Grametbauer, the problem with trading him at 20 is you are likely to lose half of the value if not more. I guess that's the tough part about Waite's injury, but he's been out 4 weeks, wonder if he is close? If he gets 6-7 weeks before the holidays then you have a better idea... Tucker has been ok, seems to think the game pretty well, but he is somewhat raw, sometimes his gaps are huge and he hesitates a lot with the puck...will be interesting to see where he is in 2-3 months. He is a player they need to see growth from, not a lot of depth on D, especially young D with Jacques traded...

do you guys think you try and compete next year or the year after? If it's next year Morand could very well be involved in a trade if we're not that strong of a team.
