Yes, but he didn't have to go. I don't know him or this situation. I'm just saying, it happens routinely that a Q team calls a kid up and the kid declines to go. Once a kid realizes the Q team doesn't love him as much as he'd hoped and begins to suspect they don't have his interests at heart, it's common to decide to stay where's he's safe and has a role he enjoys with teammates he likes, rather than go for a few weeks for a limited role knowing he'll be discarded soon after and may lose his junior A job in the meantime. If MacDonald is the top prospect the cats think he won't lose his spot in truro. I don't think he will, either. I was just responding to the idea that a kid HAS to accept a recall to a Q team. Of course he does if he wants to continue with the organization, but he doesn't have to do that, and lots of kids decide not to go up. Junior A teams don't always make kids feel supported in a decision to accept a recall.

Junior A teams don't always make kids feel supported in a decision to accept a recall. Always toughest for goalies ... if you go up to major junior for a few weeks, and your junior A team needs to find a new goalie, you may be out of luck or on the move when it is time to go back ... easier for a forward or d-man to re-integrate to their old team. Sometimes comes down to whether the player still views himself as a prospect or not ... younger players who still think they have a shot to crack major junior full time are more likely to accept a call-up; those who see themselves as likely just a short term fill-in are more likely to be hesitant to leave a comfortable junior A set-up, especially if they have a reached a point where school is more of a priority than chasing the dream ...

At some point....you need to remember the kids are people, not trash.
So....let's say Truro spends $ to bring in a goalie from western Canada. Kid leaves family and school, flies across Canada....are they just suppose to cast the kid aside? Macdonald made the commitment and signed with Truro. He was AP and decided to go full time with Wildcats. I understand. But there can be repercussions to decisions made. It's particularly hard when it's a goalie.
That's why I wouldn't be surprised to see the Wildcats keep him and shop out someone else.

Wildcats could ship someone out but if they decide not too and MacDonald goes back there’s no chance he loses his spot. I think to ask any 17 year old, that has legitimate Q potential to not accept a recall isn’t the right thing. Guys always want to play at the highest level, the ones that make the least sense are the 18/19 year olds who go up to play limited roles. As a 17 year old, I think every player takes that chance.

Tough to say at this point ... he was a relatively late draft pick, who posted horrible stats as a 17 year old, and has basically not played yet at 18 ... on the other hand, he likely would have been a much higher pick had it not been for the NCAA factor, and he was on many nights the best player on a terrible team last year. Probably one of the hardest guys in the entire league to put a value on at this point ... he could be a guy who is one of the top starters in the league at 19 and 20, or alternatively, he could be in Jr A before the end of the current year - very wide range of potential outcomes.

At this point, best case you get a 3rd or 4th rounder right now.
