But that is the risk you run taking an NHL drafted guy. AHL is an option for these guys. The key is making sure the NHL team wants the player in junior, not the AHL. The kings would not commit to AV playing here. And you can count on Shannon to get that part right ...

OK ... so we have three games left. Tonight at home vs CB (is CB already here ), then Friday night in Halifax and Saturday in Charlottetown. We sit in 15th today which means we'd face #2 which is currently Bathurst and looking like that will be where they finish. We are at 60 pts with VD 15 pts behind us so we can't move down ... and Chic is 1 pt ahead of us ... both teams with 3 games to play. Chic plays tonight in Quebec ... Friday and Saturday for back to back home games vs RN. We probably have a slightly easier schedule ... but no game is ever easy for us and we can easily lose all three. If we were to manage one point and Chic managed none, we'd get 14th because of the ROW advantage that we hold. Personally I'd rather face Rim than Bat ... Rim is a younger team and Bat is loaded to win. I expect we'll finish 15th. No matter who we face in the playoffs the best we can hope for is one win but probably out in 4. I agree, I would rather see Rimouski than Bathurst. Bathurst would sweep us in four, and I wouldn't be surprised if none of the games were close. IMO, based on the second half of the year, they are arguably the top team in the league heading into the playoffs. Rimouski offensively is on par with us ... they are just 100 goals better defensively . If we can score first against the Oceanic, and force them to open up, we have the horses to make it interesting if it becomes a track meet ... Crazy idea ... any chance we have of an upset rides on solid goaltending from Grametbauer. He has looked worn down of late - partly because almost any time we try and give him a night off, he ends up pressed into duty when his backup can't finish the game. I would consider resting him this weekend so he is fresh for game 1 of the playoffs ... complete healthy scratch resting him, so if Waite shits the bed, he doesn't have to come in ...

I also suspect being the last regular season home game ever in the old barn the Wildcats will put on their best effort tonight and take this game for the fans if anything else. As for playoffs, 14th vs 15th whatever, not going beyond first round regardless, I mean top teams like Bathurst or Rim aren’t going to embarrass themselves by letting this first round series go to a 6th or 7th game. That’s my view.

And you can count on Shannon to get that part right ... Nope. ...but the new Gm... Does anyone actually have any faith at all that there’s going to be a new GM? If it hasn’t happened by now... I won’t be the least bit surprised to see the exact same regime back next season. Perhaps that’s just me being cynical though.

If we lose out in the playoffs in 4 games, and get beaten badly (7-2 type scores), then I think Shannon and Rumble are fired. If we win the Memorial Cup hosting nod ... then I have a feeling that Irving will want a higher profile Coach/GM ... but that is less certain.

Ok ... so we got by Chicoutimi last night in the standings. They face two vs RN to close out the season. Now BC is suddenly in reach ... in theory. If we can manage 3 pts over our final two games then we'd tie BC and I think we hold the tie-breaker in ROW. BC has two vs Vic to finish the season so mark those down as 2 losses.
Jumping up past BC means we finish 13th and will face 4th in Rd 1 which is looking like it will be Halifax. I think I'd rather face Halifax than Rimouski ... we know them well and it would just be that much more interesting. We'd still lose the series ... but might make it more interesting.
So I'm thinking ... take Halifax to OT on Friday (1 pt) ... then win in Charlottetown on Saturday. The big problem with that is we are terrible on the road. Rimouski here we come !!

Could be possible that Chic takes one of their final two games, Wildcats loose both of theirs, then back to 15th and Bathurst here we go. Never looked at the math but what is the scenario if Wildcats and Chic are tied in total points at end.

If MON and Chic are tied in total points at the end then the first tie-breaker is ROW (Regulation and OT wins ... SO wins are stripped out). So right now we have 27 ROW and Chic have 25, giving us the nod.
So if Chic gets one more point (only) and we lose our final two, then we'd be seeded ahead of Chic.
If Chic wins its final 2, and we get 3 points (1 W, 1 OT/SO loss) in our final two (making us tied) ... we'd still be seeded ahead unless our win was by SO.
If Chic gets 3 pts, and we get 2 pts, I don't think they can tie us in ROW under that scenario, even if we get one point in each game.
So, it looks like Chic has to pass us in the standings ... which is certainly possible. I think we stay seeded ahead of Chic if we are tied in points.

We needed at least a point last night to have a shot at overtaking BC for 13th (didn't get it done) ... so we will finish in 14th or 15th ... and face the 2nd or 3rd seed ... which will be Halifax or Bathurst as 2nd seed ... and Rimouski as 3rd seed. So we need to win tonight to be sure to avoid Bathurst ... the strongest of the 3 teams. Win tonight ... or even get one point and we face Rimouski.
We have also ensured that our 1st 2018 will be a lottery pick ... way to go Shannon ... you're welcome Sherbrooke!
Chic plays RN again today. I could see RN resting players as they are currently lined up with Sherbrooke and would probably like to avoid them. The best thing we can do for our season today is win ... or at least get to OT.

Playing BLB on Sunday, I’m sure will be a glorified Jr. A squad, things aren’t quite set in stone just yet.
