If SJ could convince Lawrence to report, he would be going a lot higher than any Moncton/Halifax picks

Aren't both Hillier and Spence leaning towards the NCAA? That's probably why. I agree with WhiteTy that Lawrence will be picked by the Cats. Not only does he seem like a pretty standard pick for the Cats with Shannon as the GM but I'm pretty sure Shannon knows the kid and probably assume he can convince him to come. I've Moncton is one of the teams that's going hard after him. Halifax will select ahead of us ... if they still have their 1st. If we can get Lawrence to report then so can they. So can SJ for that matter. I don't think he's going to report to anyone. I just think Moncton will pick him hoping he does report because he's a huge talent. I also think Moncton's front office may be more delusional in thinking they can do it whereas a team like Halifax will likely be more careful with their assets since they're most likely going to be hosting the memorial cup and so it's better to have as many assets as possible.

Moncton owns 6 picks in the first 4 rounds. Here's a look at where they'll be picking if the draft lottery stays as is. I will include who they could select with each pick as ranked by HockeyProspect.com. Also, I will include who I would pick because I'm an expert 18th overall (from Blainville)HockeyProspect.com: Xavier Bourgault - Levis Midget AAA My pick: Brady Burns - Valley Wildcats Midget AAA 20th overall (from Shawinigan)HockeyProspect.com: Brady Burns My pick: Elliot Desnoyers - St Hyacinthe Midget AAA 27th overall (from Sherbrooke)HockeyProspect.com: Zachary Roy - Chateauguay Midget AAA My pick: Josh Lawrence - Selects Academy U16 40th overall (from Chicoutimi)HockeyProspect.com: Tristan Gagne - Jonquiere Midget AAA My pick: Cole Cormier - Moncton Flyers 64th overall (from Charlottetown)HockeyProspect.com: Emile Girard - Corsaires Pointe-Levy Midget Espoir My pick: Mark Hiller - St Andrew's College 71st overall (from Bathurst)HockeyProspect.com: Olivier Adam - Magog Midget AAA My pick: Jordan Spence - Summerside Capitals Hillier, Spence and Lawrence are all great players, Lawrence being the best in the draft but why would you want them to waste 3 high picks on guys that are leaning NCAA? This seems like a waste of assets once again by the Wildcats..

That being said, they can definitely make a better offer to his family given that while he is coming into a team in a rough spot, we have a distinct plan that will build up with him (if Moncton wins the Memorial Cup bid, it would be horrid for he and Pelletier).

Thread bump.
27 days until the draft in Shawinigan. Moncton owns 6 picks in the first 4 rounds (18-20-27-40-64-71). I did some quick math and it seems only Cape Breton (7) and Val d'Or (8) have more.
Pretty safe to say our most glaring need is defense.
There's 4 defensemen who are guaranteed to go in the first round (William Villeneuve, Lukas Cormier, Jeremie Poirier and Jeremie Biakabutuka). There's a good chance neither will be available at 18th overall.
Do we trade up to grab one of the four?
There's a significant drop in defense once they're off the board. My predictions for the next 3 best available defensemen would be PEI's Charlie DesRoches (Committed to Northeastern University), Dieppe's Nico Savoie (Committed to Providence College) and Mavrick Gauthier.
What would you like to see done with our top 3 picks?

Goaltending needs to be addressed as well. I wouldn’t be opposed to taking a goalie in that spot.

Goaltending needs to be addressed as well. I wouldn’t be opposed to taking a goalie in that spot. Ethan Pearson from Fredricton would be a nice add. He played with Newbridge Academy this year, really 6'1, moves well, I think he's one of the best goaltenders available in the draft, could be there in the late second/early third round.

And look where he is today ! And look who is still coaching him . No coincidence. Playing hockey in May and earning 1.1 M .

Goaltending needs to be addressed as well. I wouldn’t be opposed to taking a goalie in that spot. Does it, though? We haven't seen enough of the goalies already in the system to know (which I don't understand - it was obvious they had no confidence in Waite, but instead of calling up one or both of the promising prospects they over-play Grametbauer).

We haven't seen enough of the goalies already in the system to know (which I don't understand - it was obvious they had no confidence in Waite, but instead of calling up one or both of the promising prospects they over-play Grametbauer). Paradis is the only goalie they have under 18. He was an 8th round pick. I think it would be smart to focus on D in round 1 plus possibly a couple more d-men in rounds 2-4 because that position is a black hole right now. Goaltending is second on the need list, ideally use a 2nd or 3rd rounder on a young(16 next year) goalie who would likely go back to MAAA unless he busts down the door and makes the team. I think overplaying Grametbauer ultimately hurt them the last 2-3 months. Last year's draft was to be a windfall of young players going forward, but Bellamy Jacques and Boulianne are already gone. Hopefully they can stay the course this year. These are my basic assumptions: -drafting is essential to win in the Q, no team has won mostly with free agents and trades -goalie and defense require high draft picks, patience and development Those two things are major failings of the team the last 6-8 years. They tried to add young goalies, but still stuck with waite last year even though it was obvious he had no future in the Q.

Central Scouting Draft ranking are out, with some surprises Which are? Probably where Lawrence is ranked and Lukas Cormier being ranked like 15th Edit: Cormier is clearly ranked 10th. Don't know how I saw 15th.
