So today is the draft lottery day and Moncton holds the 5th last spot ... and lowest odds of taking 1st overall. But of course we don't actually hold our lottery pick because Shannon traded it away to Sherbrooke in the Anderson MacDonald deal.
There is a 4.8% chance that Sherbrooke picks 1st overall ... but Rimouski did it last year with just 14.3% chance.
The odds of getting 2nd or 3rd are not possible to be calculated until it is known who gets 1st.
With our luck ... Sherbrooke will get 1st overall. But SJ is also very luck and have had 1st overall too many times to remember.

The MacDonald trade is a microcosm of the Shannon regime as GM. 1-make a mistake by passing on Macdonald(at 8th in 2016) and instead added a bunch of smaller assets by trading back. 2-try and fix that problem by trading 3x the value to acquire MacDonald(2018 1st, 2019 1st and 2017 2nd rounder(Jacques) plus a swap of 2019 2nds) 3-MacDonald doesn't make the anticipated impact.

Halifax gets the memorial cup That is the correct choice ... I don't think we were even in the running.

Congrats Halifax! Even though it would have been fun hosting....I'm happy to keep Pelletier and Khovanov and Bathurst's 1st entry. Moncton will have a good team next year and we won't have to sell the farm to build a contender. I'm glad Shannon will have to tear up those pre-made deals...man I can only imagine what we were giving up to be the host team. With a bit of creativity replacing Miromanov and Welsh,(we return our entire forward group except Phelan) we may still end up being in the finals next year.

As exciting as a memorial cup would be especially in a new rink I'm glad Halifax got it. It SHOULD be better for moncton in the long run.

Moncton should have a strong team so it should still be interesting to watch. I wouldn't be surprised if they buy but likely not to the same extent as they would have if they were hosting. I wonder if they will still upgrade on LeCoultre. They'll have a high pick so it'd be a waste to not use it.

What an absolute train wreck this team has been. Bottomed out, scorched earth rebuild, then a year later try to make a bid for the Mem Cup and in turn, abandon the rebuild you’ve undertaken and now don’t have your 1st round pick or the Dman you should have been grooming to be the anchor of your D core at 19 when this team should have been ready to go for it.

Right now we have Sylvestre and Grametbauer as 20s, and Pataki could be the 3rd ... Casey Fox will also be an OA but he is clearly not in the plans. But ... if they go with the new rule that allows 20 yo goaltenders to not count toward your 3 OAs then we'd have room to add another OA forward or Dman. They may view Pataki as not worthy of an OA slot but I think he is one of our best players in the playoffs so far ... 4 goals in 7 games and a pile of gritty two way play.

We have all lamented about the way this team has been run in the last few years. But while we don't have that lottery pick, we do have the 18th overall pick, the 20th overall pick, and the 27th overall pick ... plus 6 total picks in the top 4 rounds. And now that we aren't hosting the Memorial Cup we can actually use those to draft players. Our big problem is that Shannon is still in charge. I hope that we look to trade Le Coultre and add a new Euro through the draft with our Import pick that will be somewhere between 13th and 15th overall ... not sure of the league order of selection. But removing him means you have to replace him with another dman as well. I'd like to see us align with another contending team to make a deal next year to benefit them and that benefits us the following year.
