Overall it was a disappointing season given the preseason expectations and midseason additions(Miromanov Phelan and Sylvestre).
Goalies:
19-Grametbauer-C+
Had a good start but faded and struggled for the 2nd half of the season, had a strong series against Rimouski. Struggles may be related to being overworked, needs a better #2?
18-Waite-F
Possibly the worst player on the roster and worst goalie in the Q, could not seem to stop any pucks and created a situation where Grametbauer had to play almost every game. Unlikely to be in the q next year.
Defense:
20-Welsh-A
Probably the most valuable player on the roster, a lot of the offense went through him. Had a few defensive struggles, part of it can be associated with playing huge minutes due to lack of depth. Excellent on the PP and in transition.
20-Miromanov-C+
had a good impact offensively, on defense, still looked like a converted forward on a lot of plays, lost his man or was not aggressive enough in tying up sticks. Was a solid addition for the PP and the offense.
19-Sylvestre-C+
He helped defensively, but a lot of brain cramps, bad penalties and suspensions. Based on the cost, he should have had a bigger impact, tends to go for the big hit instead of using an active stick. He was passable with the puck but at times made some brain cramps. Made players pay the price around the net, at times went overboard.
18-Aspirot-A
Gets the most out of his ability, put up good numbers and was also the best defensive d-man on the roster most nights. At times took some bad penalties for over aggression. Really good progression the last 15 months since he has been on D full time.
18-Lecoultre-C+
Tends to try and play beyond his abilities, not the most gifted but tries to make things happen offensively and can get hurt by it. Aggressive on defense which at times takes him out of position. Unlikely to be back given the early Euro pick in June.
18-Arsenault-C
Plays a gritty edgy game, prone to lapses, will lose focus and coverage at times. Tends to stare down players on passes which leads to turnovers. Has limited upside, could be replaced by a younger player(s) next year.
17-Tucker-B-
Plays a quiet game, not the most physical but usually in good position and has an active stick. Still seems to have some offensive upside and could be more physical in the dirty areas. would like to see him take a step forward next season from a #6-7 to a 4-5 guy.
Forwards:
20-Phelan-A
Was a very good player in the 2nd half, brought some skill and a lot of work ethic. Strong player at both ends of the rink. Will leave a huge hole next season. One of the few guys who did not lose a step at playoff time.
19-Pataki-C+
Solid depth player, strong defensively and good penalty killer, chipped in a few goals, had strong playoffs. Could be back but they can likely get a better OA if goalies are not among the 3.
19-Fox-C
Serviceable depth player, had a few good games in the playoffs. Unlikely to be in the Q at 20.
18-Cyr-C+
showed nice improvement offensively but has a hard time staying in the lineup. Durability is the big concern. has good speed and skill to play top 6.
18-McKenna-A
Likely the most improved player in the Q, worked on his speed and quickness and conditioning, keeps his feet moving and his shot and release makes him dangerous. Should keep progressing.
18-Campanneli-C
Was expected to be a frontline player, has not lived up to that, but can be an effective depth player. when he is moving his feet he is an asset at both ends of the rink.
18-Seitz-B-showed some finish and plays with an edge, plus, had good playoffs. Solid depth player with some upside, needs to work on his skating and conditioning to keep up the energy. Needs to work at playing on the right side of the edge and out of the box.
18-Blackmore-C-
a bit of a disappointment after putting up good numbers last season in spot duty. Plays a high energy game but does not seem to accomplish a lot. will need to progress in order to have a safe spot for next season at 19.
18-Kuzmin-C
Showed some skill along with size and good mobility, never seemed to be a Rumble favorite. Could be a guy that breaks out next season but that may or may not be in Moncton depending on what happens in the front office.
18-Lazure-C-
Added as a depth body, has decent size and can skate, not a lot of upside. Likely to be replaced by younger players next year.
17-Khovanov-B-
Was a solid contributor, still has room to improve his skating and conditioning. At times took some dumb penalties after the whistle. defense is also an issue. Above average hockey sense and vision, could be a top scorer with continued growth.
17-MacDonald-C
Runs hot and cold, true sniper with size and not afraid of the dirty areas. At times gets caught watching and not competing, needs a lot of work defensively and needs to move his feet a lot more. A lot of room to grow, overall though a bit of a disappointment, was on the 4th line for part of the playoffs.
17-Hudson-C+
Young grinder, gets his nose dirty and is willing to do the grunt work. Not the most skilled but has some upside. Should grow into a strong checking line C/W.
16-Pelletier-A
Came as advertised, very good skill level matched by full throttle motor, at times this got him banged up and worn down. Has a very nice future in the Q as a frontline player with no major weaknesses.
Coaching(C-):
Based on the age of the team, finishing 14th is a pretty big disappointment, some players did not progress and the team as a whole did not progress defensively. The defense in particular had a stunning amount of brain cramps and missed assignments for a group with 2 20 year olds a 19 year old and 2 18 year olds. The goalies also did not finish the season any better than they started. Will there be changes?
GM(D):
After last season's scorched earth rebuild, was expecting season of growth and development, instead they added a pile of veterans trying to shortcut the process and failed(14th overall) except for an upset versus Rimouski. Trading the farm for MacDonald after passing on him a year before raises some serious questions. The Sylvestre trade looked like a panic trade that wasted needed assets. Would be a good time for a change and a fresh perspective. Franchise has spun their wheels since 2010 and should aim higher. Drafting, developing and trading have all taken a big hit in recent years.
