They must have a plan for a top d-man, can't see them going after a top goalie and not a D-man also. If Aspirot does not return, we need a #1 and # 3 D-man at least, to try and contend. Hopefully Torchetti has connections in Europe. I liked what I saw from Hebert on D when he played but only saw a small sample size, great skater, good first pass and could crack the roster as a third paring or 7th d-man. DeJong is not a top 4 D-man in this league but can play on the top pairings if needed, he lacks consistency but has some good games when he is on his game. Stewart had a good season but also won't be ready for top 4 unless he has a breakout year. Spence is ready to play top line minutes and if he continues to get better as he did last season, he will be one of the best 18 year old D-man in the Qmjhl. We will need a veteran D-man that can play a shut down style no matter what this season, just when and where do we get him . Some mentioned Arsenault from the huskies ? I think any player from that team would bring a boatload of experience that the wildcats will need. How about a blockbuster with Rouyn? Acquire both Arsenault and Bergeron

I have a feeling the kid we drafted this year will be a lot like Pelletier ... a kid that never takes a shift off ... but bigger. Pelletier's size has never been an issue ... he just doesn't let it get in his way.

First free agent has been added to the Q site. Philippe Daoust: www.eliteprospects.com/player/574526/philippe-daoustHighest scoring under 18 player in the NOJHL. Averaged over a PPG on one of the worst teams in the league. He was only 5'3", 120 pounds in his 1st year of midget. Now listed at 5'11", 151 pounds. He was very impressive at the Montreal Meltdown and was pursued by many teams in the OHL and QMJHL. A quick write-up on Daoust from the Sudbury Star following their prospect camp last month: Though not a Nickel City native, free agent Daoust also felt right at home, and not just because the 17-year-old’s junior team, the French River Rapids, plays the Canadians several times each season. Daoust’s parents are from the Rapids’ hometown of Noelville and he has several relatives both there and in Greater Sudbury.
Having taken a growth spurt to match his skill level and skating ability — he was one of the top performers in sprints on Saturday — the 5-foot-11, 145-pounder would love a chance to play before family and friends at the major-junior level.
“My puck-handling has improved and I think I really set up the play well and I’m patient with the puck,” Daoust said. “I’m hoping that the coaches and the staff really see that in me and they like what I do out there.
“It would be pretty cool to play in the OHL in Sudbury. I have lots of family here and always have a good amount of people who come to support me, so I think it would be a pretty cool scenario if I ever ended up playing here.”

Sounds like a guy that could possibly make the team as a top 9 forward, if not full time, maybe grow into that type of role.

Sounds like a guy that could possibly make the team as a top 9 forward, if not full time, maybe grow into that type of role. The competition level in the NOJHL league is always questionable and I think Moncton has had some huge scorers from that league who have been unable to make the jump to the Q. So it will be interesting to see how this guy adjusts. Edit: Erik Robichaud was one. Moncton also added Julien Breton a d from Quebec. www.eliteprospects.com/player/341616/julien-breton

Any rumours about what Moncton plans to do with their pick tomorrow? I've heard they're going after a 19 year old. Hardly insider information but it's all I got out of a buddy I know who works for the team.

That would make sense since this seems to be the likely go for it year.
