So am I correct in thinking that only 1 of the Americans who were drafted by the team are reporting? We took a page right out of the Moncton Wildcat American recruiting strategy.... with no success.

This was the draft to try and swing for the fences. Odd they aren't reporting given the Sea Dogs have a trillion dollars in the bank and can pay each players grandkids mortgages

Notice that Yohan Plamondon is not listed That is a mild surprise to me. I also noticed that Brendan Sibley is not on the training camp roster. I wonder if both Brendan and Yohan are still dealing with injuries ... or a merely victims of the roster turnover.

So am I correct in thinking that only 1 of the Americans who were drafted by the team are reporting? F Cade DeStefani was a 2018 US draft choice. Goaltender Justin Pace (2019 - 11th round) is listed and played in Florida last year. Free Agent F Ben Badalamenti is from Detroit but played Junior in Ontario last year. While not technically a US players, D Anthony Cliche is also listed. He reportedly is headed to University of Vermont. But he also recently participated in the Canada U17 program. It'll be interesting to see if he stays past 48 hours.

They would have a bit of trade value.

For all the draft nerds - like myself - here are some numbers based on the published training camp roster.
2016 - Zero - none of the players the Sea Dogs drafted that June are still with the team. Largely the cost of a championship in 2017.
2017 - 3 + 2 + 2 = 7 - Only 3 players drafted by the Sea Dogs are expected at camp this week; Aiden MacIntosh (4-63), Jeremie Jacob (6-104) and Stewart Bagnell (8-145). - The Sea Dogs did acquire Carson Gallant from GAT (2-28) and Tommy DaSilva from CAP (2-36). - Free Agents Alex Wynter (RIM - 9-148) and Connor McCluskey (MON - 10-200) were also drafted in 2017. Oh yeah, it cost alot to get Danny Flynn extra horses to win the President Cup.
2018 - 14 + 2 = 16 - 14 of 17 guys drafted by the Sea Dogs are listed on the training camp roster. - Only G Connor Bradford (10-165), F Anthony Provost (10-178 - loaned to VIC) and D Simon Trottier (13-217) are not listed. - Alex Drover (CAP - 1-10) and Alex Belisle (RIM - 3-38) are acquired players also drafted in 2018.
2018 American - 1/2 - Cade DeStefani is slated to come to camp - but will he stay for 48 hours or more?? - Jack Williams came to Development camp last summer but, after playing for Team USA at the Hlinka-Gretzky tournament, he's likely to stay on the path of the NCAA - although I understand that he and his dad have not completely closed the door on Saint John quite yet.
2019 - 6 + 2?? - 6 of the 12 players drafted by the Sea Dogs are on the camp roster. Joshua Roy and Charles Savoie appear to be locks to make the final roster. Robert Orr and Anthony Cliche will be watched very closely. Carter McCluskey and Justin Pace appear to be in tough. - The two guys previously commited to other leagues - Peter Reynolds (BCHL) and Cam MacDonald (USHL) - are both on the record with John Moore about being open to seriously consider Saint John for next year. - It's not a huge surprise that 4 of the US born draftees - F Jaden Moriello, F Nick Roukounakis, D William Elias and D Cam Miranda - did NOT agree to come, even for 48 hours.
2019 American - Zero - neither Anthony Cafarelli nor David Sacco are slated to appear this year. Again, not a surprise.

Was anyone there today? How did things go? I'm curious if any of these free agents stood out at all.

Any news on Sibley and Plamondon. Are they injured or have they decided not to report to camp and waiting to be assigned elsewhere or traded?

Just a few quick observations from the first two scrimmages - and yes, it's very early and not much (if anything) can be taken from this.
- Alex Drover and Dawson Stairs were a dynamic pair on Team Thomas. I'd love to see Coach Dixon leave them together for a while. - Joshua Roy did not stand out skating wise - but his vision and passing were obvious to me. His shoot out goal in the game 2 tie-breaker was awesome. - I really liked Charles Savoie and Robert Orr. While likely not a fair comparison, Orr reminded me a bit of a young Mathieu Joseph. - Charlie DesRoches and William Villeneuve stood out. It appears that Jeremie Poirier was given the day off after the Hlinka-Gretzky tournament. It should be a ton of fun to watch those three develop. - Nicholas Deakin-Poot and Jeremie Jacob looked very good for Team Huberdeau. Both seem prepared for the battle for a roster spot. - Nicolas Guay is an excellent addition. - Josh Lawrence, James White, Alexis Belisle and Alexandre O'Neill all stood out on Team Gallant/Kelly this afternoon. - I wasn't particularly focused on the other D but Jordan Spadafore caught my eye a few times.

Here are my thoughts on a couple scrimmages that I saw today..... Team Huberdeau
Nick Deakin has good speed for a big body and was hard on the forecheck.... He had something going with James White in the game I saw. I have a hard time figuring which 20 to keep between him and Porier ( assuming Roy reports).
Cajkovic seemed to be going through the motions had a few chances but like last season can’t seem to hit the corners with his big shot. He will be dangerous this season.
Josh Roy came as advertised with his silky smooth hands and amazing vision... skating is ok but lacks the breakaway speed. He is going to be fun to watch. He had a beauty penalty shot goal.
Jérémie Jacob creates chances with his speed...
Robert Orr seemed to have good speed and vision.... He looked good but not sure how much room there is for him this season. It will be interesting to see if he stays past the 48hrs...
Julien Vander Voet was throwing the body and getting under the skin of a few guys. I think he buried a couple...
Charlie Desroches was his usual self making smart plays and showing his offensive abilities. His passing is always on the tape...
Jordan Spadafore was a force on defence today playing very physical and making players pay the price to stand in front of the net. He reminds me of Ian Saab and could be a very useful player, especially if Sacha Roy doesn’t report.
