Hey Guys,
After a lengthy delay we're ready to host a Q&A! Trevor will be here answering questions tomorrow (Sept 26). Start dropping your questions in the thread now and we'll start answering just after lunch.
This goes without saying but obnoxious or trolling questions will be ignored.
Ask away!

Trevor
If the price is right of course. Do you plan on moving some of our assets to bring in a very good established player this year? Preferably an 18 year old. Or are you still in rebuild mode and plan on moving older players?

Trevor do you feel some of the guys you have drafted over the past 2 seasons that are playing elsewhere and/or committed to NCAA teams(Peter Reynolds, Cam MacDonald, Jack Williams, etc) will report next season? And do you still keep in contact with those players throughout the season?

Trevor, Wondering if there plans to be a section on the website devoted to the Sea Dog's Hall of Fame? Did the team name a third member this season?

Trevor, why, in honour of DK, is the monkey band aid apparel not being sold at Sea Dogs Styles, or even inside the doors? Why not even set up a table at his memorial? Keep a good thing going.

At what point does the focus move from “rebuilding” and actually trying to contend? This could potentially be the 3rd tough year in a row and I’m sure it’s weighing on fans... also with all of the draft picks/young talent you’ve acquired, is there any hope/thought that this team may be able to have a 3 year run of high level playoff success like previous editions of the Sea Dogs?

Is the team still looking at free agents that could brought in between now and Christmas?

Can we bring back the big screen with the live 50/50 pot total?
Best,
Lenny

Trevor If the price is right of course. Do you plan on moving some of our assets to bring in a very good established player this year? Preferably an 18 year old. Or are you still in rebuild mode and plan on moving older players? Our plan remains to have a Championship run next season and a Memorial Cup run the following season. That being said we need to give our guys valuable playoff experience and if we can add a piece or two at a reasonable cost that will be here for this season and next for at least two playoff runs then we're going to look to do that. We've been sellers the past two Christmas deadlines but I expect to transition to buyers this upcoming period with a focus on long term acquisitions--players who would be here for multiple playoff runs. Short term acquisitions are definitely still a possibility, but as you said, only if the price is right.

And do you still keep in contact with those players throughout the season? Both the CHL and NCAA are great paths for players and not all players are the same. Deciding between the CHL and NCAA is a tough decision that parents and players put a lot of thought into. Parents are now far more informed on their options than ever before. Specifically, the three players you mentioned would make an entirely new elite scoring line for us, so yes we stay in contact with them throughout the year, sometimes weekly or over certain periods of time as much as daily. We always stay optimistic that players will see the value in playing here in Saint John. We would love nothing more than to win a Memorial Cup with all three of them in our lineup but if that's not the preference of the player and their families we completely understand that and simply want what's best for the player. If they never don a Sea Dogs jersey it's not for lack of trying.

Now that our pedway and "The Blue Mile" that house the physical Hall of Fame space are nearing competition we'll definitely look to add a section on our website devoted to the Sea Dogs Hall of Fame. During this year's Hall of Fame it was announced that Gerard Gallant & Mike Kelly will be inducted in June of next year. Hope to see you there!

We love the monkey band aid program and everything that it stands for. The monkey band aids are trademarked by the company that produces the actual band aids, therefore we're unable to sell them in our store. In honor of DK we'll be hosting a "Team DK" night in November in support of the David "DK" Kelly Memorial Bursary Fund. Details on this night will be available shortly.

That focus starts next season on 'contending'. This year is still about experience for our team and building on their development so they are ready to contend next season. We think part of contending next year is acquiring playoff experience for this group this year. Our last group that contended for a President Cup had two years of success after three years of rebuilding going from 16th-17th-10th-3rd-1st. That team was jump started with two first round picks (Highmore & Leblanc) while this group didn't select until the third round of our first rebuild year. Based on the 2003 born players on our list and draft picks that we have now I could see us being able to compete post-2022 Memorial Cup run but it will depend on how all-in we are in 2022. Also, as I'm sure everyone else has noticed it's becoming increasingly difficult to project your overage players as Moncton saw this off-season. High end home grown overage players like Highmore and Smallman are likely a trend of the past. Obviously we would love to have a three year window of competing, but not at the risk of holding back in 2022 and playing it too safe.
