Well , first of all we all know it wouldnt be close to a sell out. A good crowd yes, weather happens. Halifax imo has all the right in the world to deem travel not safe. last thing we want is another Humbolt because TG booked classified!!! Should they have come thursday YES. but they didnt and TG delayed everything to the last minute allowing the Saint john fans to travel in that gross weather with a long shot the game happens.
You all know how l feel about the TG regime, but l am not going to go all over on him for this. He just should have cancelled sooner keeping HIS fans safe

This looks really bad on Georgie and the organization. The weather Thursday was also horrible; it's not like it was a no-brainer for the Mooseheads to travel Thursday.
Losing scheduled games to dangerous driving conditions is part of the hockey business, always has been. Home teams don't get to dictate visiting teams' travel plans, and they don't get to dictate what happens when a game is lost to Canadian winter. Any GM who knows the game and the business knows this.
And, what? We're to believe the second-worst team in the league was manipulating its schedule for competitive advantage? The Moose traded away all their players, for God's sake!

FYI: There is another TJ article that came out later yesterday that gives Cam Russel's account of events. Its behind a paywall so I won't even post the link.

Same article is posted here I would think: www.halifaxtoday.ca/local-news/mooseheads-gm-offended-by-accusations-the-team-intentionally-missed-fridays-game-2083026Honestly I don't see why Cam would ever "plan" to miss the game. It's a maritime 3 in 3, big deal. There is a month left in what is a losing season. We would have been the most rested for this game - it is not like he bailed on the 3rd in 3. That is a pretty elaborate plan to bus the players and gear to Moncton for the night, knowing you would not drive to SJ. And then to involve the assistant GM and the bus driver in the scheme? All to avoid a game against the Sea Dogs?

This franchise has gone from one of the premier franchises in the CHL to a laughing stock. Thanks mostly in part by dumb and dumber. Dumb is gone, time for TG to go

Dumb is gone, time for TG to go Nobody really cares about your off ice antics. You are still poised to be champions again in what could be as little as a year, but more likely two years from now. I'd hardly call them a laughing stock. While TG comes off as an asshole in this, he has done a very good job at rebuilding your team.

Looking at this objectively from an outsiders point of view, I don't think the Moose intentionally set out to the miss the game, but I think it is safe to say that they were not as motivated to play it as scheduled as the Sea Dogs were, and the result was the Sea Dogs are upset that the Moose didn't do everything possible to make it. Both sides are right in a way ... would it have been POSSIBLE for the Moose to make the game? Sure ... they could have left early, as teams often do when faced with bad weather. Was it REASONABLE for the Moose to cancel? Sure - two other games in the region were cancelled that same night for the same reason. Did the Dogs have grounds to complain to the league that the Moose spoiled their party? Maybe ... but going to the media the way they did was bush league. Halifax has every right to be pissed at them.

According to article in today's TJ - the league has confirmed that the investigation was cancelled and all they had left to do was set a new date for the game.

Bathurst didn't make it to Halifax last year for the Moose's "90's night", and it had to be re-scheduled. When it was re-scheduled it was on a Monday night, which probably cost the team some money, as there'd be less of a walk-up crowd on a Monday (the game was originally scheduled for a Friday), and, like Saint John, fans could exchange those tickets for other games. There is a cost incurred by the hosting team when the visiting team can't make it to the game. That cost depends on the circumstances, but can be in the thousands in terms of revenue loss. Even more when special events are planned. I believe Trevor Georgie when he said there was a 5-figure loss with this situation.
The question becomes: How can this situation be prevented. It's easy to ask Halifax to travel early to get ahead of the storm. But that option is with Halifax. If the Moose traveled on Wednesday, as mentioned above, that's two extra hotel stays that cost the team money. It's easy to say "It's the Mooseheads, they have money". But the issue is with fairness, and treating 18 teams equally. Halifax isn't going to spend thousands on extra hotel stays because Saint John asked nicely (without some sort of compensation).
I don't think league-mandated travel scheduling would work. It'd be tough to force every team in the league to travel one, sometimes two days early.... considering the financial implications that has on teams. Halifax could deal with it. But the rules have to be equal for everyone.
Crappy situation for sure.

The initial comments from Georgie were "Georgie said he offered to connect the Mooseheads with its hotel partner, the Delta Saint John, who were able to accommodate the team." I read that quote as if he was offering to pay for the stay, or that the delta was comping the stay so that Halifax didn't incur additional costs but I could be wrong.

I didn't read that as a "free stay". I just read that as "we have the adequate # of rooms available". I could be wrong as well though. Would be a significant fact in the story line.

The article is unclear but I heard that Georgie offered to pay their accommodations for Thursday. I didn't hear anything about them travelling Wednesday though, so whether or not Georgie was willing to cover that night as well, I'm not sure.
