Are the Q protected lists still 50 players? Obviously teams won’t hit that target right now with guys aging out or has it been raised to 55?

Unless I counted wrong they're protecting 45 players currently, + 11 picks, plus whatever else is happening at the draft.... so it might be 55, tho I thought I heard something a few years bacl about them having like a separate list for NHL 1st rounders or like NHL picks? Not 100% sure.

It’s interesting to note that out of the last 2 American drafts, only Nolan Hayes seems to still be on the protected list. Both guys from last year were already dropped. Hayes will be entering his 18 year old season next year and doesn’t seem to have a commitment yet. I wonder if they think they can convince him to come And the reason he’s still on the list while all the others are gone.

Honestly I think the American draft is mostly a formality at this point. I think some teams find it a bother more than anything and just pick a couple names off a list to get it over with.
If they were good and willing to report they'd likely be taken in the Q draft.

It was a poor attempt at generating media hype. The amount of Americans on lists never changes necessarily as leading up to it the league was requiring teams draft 1 or 2 anyway weren't they? All the "American draft" did was confuse casual fans. As Raimu said...nothing was stopping teams from picking committed Americans in the midget draft. That alone should give an idea of how stupid the idea was. Go back to pre-2010 or so recruiting rules and we'll see more Americans show up.

Thoughts on the rumours from this weekend of the Cats picking up the 4th overall pick for Pelletier?? Chicoutimi sending picks and Lapierre to Gatineau for 4th overall, flipping pick to Cats for Pelts.

Pelletier is a hell of player. To me 1 for 1 for a pick just isn't quite enough, even at 4th overall.

I would think there would be more pieces to the trade. Pelletier is definitely worth more than just the 4th pick imo. Who would be the best fit for the Wildcats at the 4th overall pick?

Trading a veteran 19 year old non Euro at mid season likely gets you a 3 or 4 asset haul. Veteran impact players are worth more then. If you are trading for high picks at the draft, your vet is only worth 80% of what he would be at midseason. Picks have more value in June. Given the Covid situation, it may be the WC trying to make sure they get good value for their vets rather than risk getting nothing in a rebuild. Trying to get a top flight local kid could be another reason. In a normal year I would say keep your vets until December, this is not a normal year.

Is it even a real rumor? Or are we talking about an idea tossed around on a podcast here?
