While it’s great to tell your son they aren’t going to play NCAA, the fact of the matter is, it really isn’t the parents choice. I know when I was 17/18 my parents weren’t telling me where I could play hockey and what school I would be attending, it was totally my choice. I know for a lot of players making hockey choices (at the Jr. A/Q level) while their parents have an input they don’t have the ultimate say in the matter. The players are the ones who make the choice, obviously the parents have input and they talk everything over but they’re not ruling with an iron fist and telling them they can’t go play here or there. He can still stay on the same path he is for next season and then make his decision the year after and be in the same place. The Q will always be there for him, I think if you’ve stayed the course this long then odds are you may want to just wait it out and see. I don’t know that he’s going to come into the Q next season and light the world on fire, he very much strikes me as a guy that’s better to stay the NCAA route and allow a team to make a decision on him when he’s 20/21 instead of having to decide whether to sign him at 19. I think you are underestimating Reynolds. He would likely be our 1c. I’m not underestimating Reynolds, he’s an extremely high end potential prospect but saying he’d likely be your #1 C after coming off a less than PPG season in the BCHL is as much of an indication of the C’s on the roster as it is an indication on Reynolds. I again think a lot of Reynolds, he was a very highly rated Q prospect for me and I think he’s got NHL potential but I see him as a guy that would fit better in the NCAA for 2-3 seasons then playing pro at 20.

Okay I get what your saying but here’s the thing your missing, there was no Global pandemic when you were that age. Times have changed and it isn’t going to be the normal that we grew up with for some time. No offence a and correct me if I’m wrong here but your post tells me your not a parent. When and if you become one you will look at these things very differently. Now admittedly my kids are very young and I won’t have to tell my sons anything like this for many years. But being a parent and helping my teenage son make these decisions in to days climate yes 100% me and his Mother( the boss) would be telling him you need to stay in Canada. Trust me many other parents would think this way. I have to add by no ways I’m I trying to be disrespectful here by being personal at all. I will also add if it were 2 months ago I would be on your side and saying thing like it’s his decision but things have changed Drastically. Times have changed and while I think parents input plays a role in deciding where these kids go, I can guarantee you that it is ultimately not always the parents decision. Especially as a player turns 17/18. I’ve seen many people help and coach their kids through decisions like these (again not at a time of a pandemic) but it was never the parents decision. The kids ultimately made the choice but weighed their parents opinions into the mix. Being a helicopter parent/one who makes all the decisions for your child is also not the way to go IMO. I think that does more harm then good in some cases but every child/person is different and has to be considered on an individual basis. I guess all I was trying to say before is why can’t he wait another season, where he’d still be playing in Canada and then make a decision at 18. At which point he is an adult, who can vote, go to war, etc, etc. If you’ve set yourself up to go to the NCAA for this many years, this pandemic doesn’t really throw that big of a wrinkle into the plans for next season... it’d be the season after where you have to make that tough decision and at that point, with input from an NHL team maybe you decide the Q is the best place to be. I should preface this by saying, since Reynolds was picked by the Sea Dogs and has never completely shut the door on the Q and the gap between next season and his start date at BC and I expected him to be in a Dogs uniform next season.

However long it takes Canada to get out of this mess, I expect it will take the US much longer. Whether or not that means the Q will be back before NHL,AHL, ECHL, and NCAA, I'm not sure. I imagine all 3 CHL leagues would start up again at the same time. Could the other 2 leagues temporarily relocate their US team to Canadian cities so that they could start their season? Cities with teams in pro leagues where play is suspended would be a good place to start looking.
If the Q started up again one way or another before the other leagues mentioned, we could see a lot of players around the league back for another year (or at least part of it) that we weren't expecting.
If some guys are still undecided about which route to take, it might tip the scales in the CHL's favour if there is uncertainty about when school and hockey would be starting up again in the US.

You never answered the question about are you a parent. That tells me your not. To say a person is not going to let their child (that sure is a teenager) go to a different country in today’s climate is being a helicopter parent, is a head up your ass comment. If we were having this conversation one year ago today sure I might agree with you. Today where the entire world is flipped upside down and everywhere you turn there a chance of catching something that can kill you. Here’s why I can tell your not a parent and saying what your saying. I don’t give a shit if my son and or daughter right no can vote, join the army what have you. If he or she wants to go NCAA which is in a different country. They won’t be going because what happens if they catch this virus and our hospitalized? There are no planes to get to them, you can’t get over the border to get to them because it closed. That right there is only the tip of the iceberg. I can keep going down a deep, deep rabbit whole here. Your side of the argument by all mean in March 2019 totally is valid and I agree with you. But like I said earlier times have changed and in the next 2-3 years I don’t want to speak for to many people here but I bet a lot of parents would be on my side on this one. Here’s one other thing to think of. The way the economy is right now their has to be some worry about scholarships being taken away. The money might not be there anymore. If however and to me if school is a big deal to the family and kid go CHL and get The education money now. That too could be at jeopardy too though.

There are a few NCAA schools that are in significant financial trouble as a result of the virus. They run a small margin, because of how thin they spread themselves on sports scholarships and highly paid coaches.

How will sports leagues of any and all types even be able to operate in the coming months, at least until a vaccine is available? It seems unlikely that stadiums and arenas could be opened in any meaningful way. Pro sports might make it with fanless games and live on media revenues but the vast majority of amateur sport would be in jeopardy. This is not something that anyone wants to dwell on but it just might be where things end up. God awful situation.

The thought of my team winning a championship in an empty arena...and then to be told by local, provincial, and national politicians that you basically can't celebrate it in any meaningful way makes it a pretty empty feeling for such a major accomplishment. Almost wish they'd all call it quits for 2020. Aim for a Jan 1 2021 re-launch with shortened NBA/NHL seasons to end at a normal time. And yes I realize that would mean no NFL or MLB seasons but at this point I think that's already going in that direction as any positive case among a player will cause chaos again. Do off seasons in November/December when this should start to calm down somewhat.

Good points all around on the pro side of things. However, leagues that depend on gate receipts are in a whole other level of hurt. Or municipalities operating their arenas without any events, not something anyone wants to contemplate but it may soon become the reality we don’t want to face.

Yeah and those leagues have no choice but to wait it out because they need that gate to survive. Very tough situation all around but also requires both some compassion and some common sense from those running the buildings because as bad as the situation is now they'd all be worse off without a major tenant. Hopefully there's some positivity in terms of collaboration that comes out of this where the folks running the arenas and those running teams find a way to find some mutually beneficial ways to generate some revenue to get those bills paid.

Apparently Wrestlemania is still happening this weekend in an empty arena. They are counting on pay per view revenue to make it worth their while. Not sure how the PPV buy rates compare to other years. It might be the closest thing to pro sports going on right now but it doesn't seem to be a very popular decision among the fans.

They taped it last week. Some guys pulled out because of COVID. Roman Reigns just getting over Leukemia wouldn't have been wise to put his health at risk. But where they have their own channel I don't think they'll get much from PPV buys. Think it's like $15/month for the network vs $60 for ppv.

Even less because you get your first month free when you subscribe and others have said they are even just offering the network free for anyone during this crisis

For the sake of discussion as I now have a lot of extra time on my hands. What’s everyone’s thoughts on our coaching situation do we give Jeff a fair crack at the job or do we bring a new head guy in? Also what needs do we need to fill ?
I think we give Cowan a chance he did turn the team around after Dixon was let go . I would like to bring in someone with a lot of defensive credentials an who played a high level to teach these kids what it takes.
We have innis coming in so on D we don’t need much unless it’s a cheap depth pickup. Upfront we need a top end 20 and a real good 19 year old forward then I think we will be all set .

I think Cowan is more suited as a asst coach I believe we bring in a well known name for the next 2 yrs. As for next year's team I don't think patandeau is ready to be a starter if Ellis comes back as a 20 that's a NO brainer cost might be a 2nd and 3rd the defense is set so upfront I would kick the tires on legare from bc offer them the lottery pick and go from their.
