LONGUEUIL, QC – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced that it is planning to return to play on October 1, 2020 following positive dialogue with Provincial Governments and Public Health Agencies.
Since the 2019-2020 season and the President Cup playoffs were cancelled last March, the Commissioner’s office has been preparing a sustainable return to play protocol to ensure a safe environment for players, team staffs, fans and its communities. Over the past several weeks, the league has had continued dialogue with government officials and Public Health Agencies of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec to propose a plan in line with Public Health directives and guidelines.
In order to begin the season on October 1st, with training camps and return to school deadlines coming up at end of August, the league had to decide on whether or not to start the 2020-2021 season. The League’s mission is to develop players both academically and athletically while providing the safest possible environment. In view of the urgency of the situation and in line with our mission, the members voted in favour of returning to play on October 1st.
Following our conversations with both the Provincial Governments and Public Health Agencies, it has been determined that the 2020-2021 season will be played behind closed doors in Quebec, while details are currently still being discussed for the Maritimes.
Training camps will open on August 30th and teams will be limited to 34 invitees. The regular season will include a 60-game schedule and the League will be divided into three divisions. All regular season games will be played within six-team divisions while the playoff format will be announced later in December. The 102nd Memorial Cup presented by Kia is scheduled to be played from June 17-27, 2021, in Oshawa or Sault St. Marie.

Is the 6 team divisions good for us? How well are the other teams in our division ? We should be the top team in the division but some teams will give us more trouble than others. Most will be at varying stages of their rebuild. Playoffs will be interesting when teams from different divisions meet because they'll have no way of knowing how they compare to one another. This could make the trade period difficult for some teams that are looking to go for it. With the following season supposedly being our true go for it season, we likely won't be big buyers this season.

Going off the list - the 4 guys on the bubble are Dixon and Gartley for D, McCluskey for F and Savoie for G.
Not knowing how long before Gould and Hampl can make it, only 1 D-man for sure may have to go by the start of the season.

I am surprised they didn’t invite a few more from the 2020 draft class to give them a taste of the Qmjhl even if the chances of them making the final roster were slim.....

Depending on if they’re keeping 7 or 8 D, the real competition there is between Drapeau and Sibley. Poirier/Villeneuve/Desroches/Inniss are all going to play, the same can probably be said about Hampl and McCallum. There’s 6 D spots spoken for, the real decision is do they keep both Drapeau and Sibley (who probably won’t see a lot of time) or send Drapeau back to U18 to hopefully get all the ice he can handle and step in at 17. Pagliarulo and Patenaude are locked in between the pipes, Savoie is there to have a 3rd goalie and fill out camp/get a look at him provided either of the other 2 get hurt. Bezeau/McCluskey are battling for the 14th spot or the opportunity to unseat Vander Voet. There’s 12 forward spots clearly spoken for, I’d say maybe 13 depending on how you view Vander Voet and then 2 guys battling for maybe 1 spot, them being local doesn’t hurt them getting into camp either.

Scotiahockey - That is an excellent assessment and I agree with you.
I, for one, am quite disappointed to see that Anderson MacDonald is not on the training camp roster. I know that he was very happy to be with the Sea Dogs last season.

Looking at the Training Camp roster on paper it really doesn't look as good as it really is.
Can't wait to watch these boys this season it's gonna be an unreal 3 years for this team I'm sure of it.

The Team up front is still fairly young. Most of the skilled guys are 17 or 18. I am sure if they can't get Fyodor Svechkov to report they will bring in another Euro via trade. They have four 18 year olds and four 17 year old that are going to be relied on to drive the offense up front. We will see I'm hoping for an entertaining season.

They don’t NEED another Euro, and if Svechkov doesn’t report this season there’s nothing to say he won’t report next season. I don’t see why they would make a trade just to get another European player.
