The Team up front is still fairly young. Most of the skilled guys are 17 or 18. I am sure if they can't get Fyodor Svechkov to report they will bring in another Euro via trade. They have four 18 year olds and four 17 year old that are going to be relied on to drive the offense up front. We will see I'm hoping for an entertaining season. They don’t NEED another Euro, and if Svechkov doesn’t report this season there’s nothing to say he won’t report next season. I don’t see why they would make a trade just to get another European player. I can't say for sure if they need another Euro or not just yet but if they are cruising along at the Christmas trade period and have the chance to add a high end or even a pretty good Euro to help them in the playoffs, I think they make that move.

What puppypaws said, plus if he doesn't report this year, maybe he doesn't report next year either. Then you are trying to replace him in the import draft next year possibly, with a pick that is likely very late in round one.

Another question....why do quite a few people think we will be this powerhouse next year? Is it simply because our division appears to be a rather weak one? Not saying we won't be, but.....looking ahead....
Bouthillier & Patenaude would appear to be a better combo than Patenaude and Pagliarulo, so goaltending gets worse.
On forward we lose for sure Durocher, Deakin Poot, A. MacDonald and Cajkovic. We gained a bunch of young unproven forwards with potential, but are they ready? Will some flop? MacDonald, Cajkovic and Durocher numbers were nothing to sneeze at so…are we actually better on forward?
On D just by adding Innis we should be better, but he can't play 60 minutes. To not wear him out before playoffs even start, he should be kept to 20-25 minutes. Thus….will the Euro ever get here? Is he any good? Is he really defensively sound like we all think just because he's big and has few points? Plus the whole key here is….will Poirier, Villeneuve and Desroches (yes, in that order) actually play defense this year? Our D will still suck if those three don’t even try defensively.
So will this team actually BE better than last year, or will it just LOOK better because all our games are in what should be a weak division. I think a team like Charlottetown might make life more difficult for us than most people think.

I think a team like Charlottetown might make life more difficult for us than most people think. I'll be very surprised if the team isn't significantly better next year but not sure about "powerhouse". Let's not overlook the obvious, that players tend to get better as they get older. If this wasn't the case then the Sea Dogs might have been considered favorites the last couple of seasons because all those 16/17 year olds would have already reached their maximum potential. Of course nobody had the Sea Dogs as favorites because of how young the team was. Not all will improve, but most will and to varying extents. Not that I think I'm telling you anything you don't already know but your analysis doesn't seem to be taking this into account. It's simply based on who's coming in and who is leaving. Wasn't the main concern last year that the D would be led by a bunch of 17 year olds? Well now those 17 year olds are 18 year olds and a good defensive 19 year old d-man will help a lot. Not only does Inniss have the experience and leadership but he also brings a style that this team was severely lacking last season. Poirier and Villeneuve were relied upon way too much last season in both offensive and defensive situations. Hopefully after being drafted and talking to coaches of the teams that draft them, they'll focus at least somewhat more on defense this season and won't be as concerned about offensive numbers. Theoretically (remains to be seen if it becomes reality) the new coach should help too. Edit - A decade ago this team lost Hoffman, Peterson, and Sauve. Aside from that, they returned mostly the same core. Who replaced those 3? Tesink, Bourret, and I can't remember who else. Seems like quite the downgrade to me. Replacing the goalie we bought at Christmas with a guy that got waived through the WHL sure seemed like a downgrade on paper, but in the end not much difference. The guys that left were better than the guys that replaced them and yet the team still did better because they had so many talented young guys returning. Mpre guys were added at Christmas but going into the trade period, the team was already better.

Add in progression and that's a massive uptick. 4) We are returning most of our fw. Outside of Cajkovic, I don't see much room for growth for the guys we lost, but the young guys should take a huge leap. Also, I think you are underestimating Reynolds. I think he's better than Roy.

The coaching and new systems should also improve the team’s record. I believe Gilbert will hold some accountability if these kids don’t buy into the defensive part of the game....

It’s hard to compare Roy to Reynolds, without Reynolds playing in this league. Roy had 44 Points in 60 games as a 16 year old. And he did that mostly in the second half of the season when he got more playing time...I don’t have his stats for the second half but I dare say he was a point a game player during that time. Roy also improved his plus/minus in the second half of the season to a respectable -3...personally I can’t wait to see all the young players under this new coach!

I haven't seen Reynolds play but from what I have heard Roy and him play different styles. Reynolds plays with more speed and pace and will probably be more entertaining but Roy slows the game down but both have lots of skill.

I just noticed that Daniel Moody has been added to the Sea Dogs pre-season roster. Since he has committed to play in the MHL with Miramichi, I have to assume this is merely a depth move in case C-A Pagliarulo gets injured.

He takes up a euro and a 20 spot. With the addition of Leonard too, It seems like they aren’t expecting Gould to get to SJ anytime soon.

Nice pickup by the Dogs. Hopefully he plays the entire season with us and doesn’t go pro when they start playing again.
I also wonder if the league is leaning towards allowing 4 20 year olds.

Wouldn’t you think though that the league would have made that rule change clear by now if they were gonna do it for this season? I expect 3 20s is the way it will stay.
