I’d love for the dogs to be able to land Shawn element if we could get him and innis and who ever our 16 yr old at the draft and possibly peter Reynolds. that would be my perfect scenario off-season . I’m not saying there’s no way but it all depends on what you expect to pay. Element IMO would be the top forward 20yo. CB is not just going to hand him over. He won’t be cheap and they could find cheap 20s that are effective and then buy better at trade deadline if needed. I wouldn’t pay a kings ransom but I’d definitely send a 2 + 2 and a bedalamenti someone of that nature

Element will fetch a 1+ (possibly 1++) Yeah after I posted I probably under valued a bit but I could see Drummondville pick this year would make sense and maybe a 3 or 4 round pick. But as a 20 value always goes down i compared what the dogs paid for Nicholas guay, and Zach bouthillier.

Bouthillier was 19 when the Dogs acquired him. Yeah at the end of the xmas deadline a 2nd an a 4th for an elite level goalie is peanuts if it’s at the draft With all due respect, Bouthillier wasn’t considered an elite level goalie at the time. As an19 he lost the starter job to Shank in Chicoutimi, and his numbers weren’t anything to write home about. In the end Bouthillier shone for us and the deal worked out well.

I think that's optimistic... what about the flip side? What if Canada and the CHL and CJHL stay closed in September and the USHL and NAHL are open for business? If the border is open, you'll see a massive influx of kids heading to the U.S. so as not to risk losing a season of their junior hockey careers. I think there are way too many unknowns right now to predict how it's going to play out, and whether the Canadian leagues will benefit from this situation or not.

None of us can project whether there will be a season, but a lot of things do give reason for optimism of there being a shortened season, and there is certainly reason for continued discussion as if there will be a season. I always find that when you list returning rosters into depth charts, that it is much easier to project strengths and weaknesses, and to identify where improvements need to be made. It works for me, anyway, but we're all different. The above roster looks very strong as far as upside, but that doesn't always project to winning. There are a lot of question marks, and I'm sure that the team management are already working on turning what they have into a winner. My guess would be that the team is a bit too young to win it all this coming season. I'm not at all saying that it can't be done, but more projecting that this will be the equivalent of the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers having teams fall just short in their first Stanly Cup attempts, before winning it the following season. My thoughts are that your 20 year-olds in a hopeful championship season would likely need to be stronger than a 1-A, 1-B goaltender, a 5th or 6th D-man (Spadafore), a third line left wing, and a depth forward such as Badalamenti or Anderson MacDonald. Hopefully that doesn't rub anybody the wrong way, more just wondering how it will play out. Is it really necessary to bring in a number 1, 20 year-old goaltender in a probable 30 game shortened season, or would it be better to play the guts out of your hopeful go-to guy for the following season to give him more experience - rather than playing him for 15 games or so as an 18 year-old? Just asking, and the Sea Dogs' followers definitely know their team and its players a lot better than I do. Also, looking at the group of D-men, it is clear that drafting Evan Nause with that 3rd overall pick is pretty well a given if he will report - and if he could be talked into reporting to the Quebec Remparts - surely he could be talked into reporting to the Sea Dogs. Up front, ummm, wow. . . I know that Cameron MacDonald hasn't officially decided to join the Sea Dogs for the coming season just yet, but Craig Eagles is about as informed a source as can be found these days, and if he's painting that picture, it's enough for me to fill the name in on the projected roster. Again, what seems to jump out a bit on the depth chart is that the group is likely just a bit too young to win it all this coming season - and again, not at all saying it can't be done. What the depth chart does show, however, is that the foreseeable peak year of the cycle when you probably hope to win it all would be the 2021-22 season. It also shows that your three 20 year-olds will once again be depth players that season - and not your go-to stars. Depth D-man, Brendan Sibley, and two depth right-wingers (Cajcovic and Vander Vloet) are the only 2001 players listed on the roster, and by that time, both Drover and O'Neill could both be higher ranked on the right side. Trevor Georgie and Staff are surely already working on the rosters for today and tomorrow, and I'm not adding anything new here. Following the peak year of the cycle, the Sea Dogs will be overloaded with 2002 twenty year-olds, and there will be a fire sale the likes of which hasn't been seen for awhile to cut back to three, but what a problem to have - kind of like the Mooseheads had this past season, but very little chance to repeat as league champions. Very exciting times in Saint John with one of the most promising rosters of any team that I've seen over the past few years, and it will be interesting to see whether they can blend all of that upside into a winner. Not at all pretending that I know a lot about the Sea Dogs and what they should do. I'm a fan - and I don't make a living at hockey. It's a holiday, and just thought that I would try to add something positive to the forum in the way of discussion. It must be a rush for the Sea Dogs' coaching staff and management to wake up every day, see everything coming together almost like a dream, and praying that there will be a season. Always liked Saint John. I worked there for a year in the 80's. The waterfront was always happening. Everything seemed so close - Callais, Campobello, St. Andrews, a beautiful part of the country - and really good to see such a promising future.

He put up 44 points last year despite everything. Drover has played center here. He'll be given a chance to win a spot there. Spadafore is fighting an uphill battle. With Inniss coming in, we're in good shape, but if we could get Nause, we'd be: Poirier - Inniss Nause/McCallum - Villeneuve McCallum/Nause- Desroches Part of getting an older goalie is to give Patenaude someone to talk through the process with and the other part is to get someone who could be a competent starter. Until Cam MacDonald signs, it is only a rumor. And rumors aren't worth much. Gould would be a bottom 6 forward, but he brings something unique. His speed is so disruptive and he's a weapon on the PK.

Saint John has enough depth that they could overcome Cajkovic and Lehmus not returning, but Patenaude would leave a gaping hole in net. Might partly explain interest in a 20 year old goalie who could either split with Patenaude, or take over if he fails to return. Question on Patenaude - I don't think I have ever seen him play, so this isn't meant to be shit-disturbing in any way - is he actually any good? I know he has played internationally for Switzerland, but I was checking out his profile on Elite Prospects ... his stats have NEVER been good at any level. Cause for concern?

Not at all meaning to knock Anderson MacDonald. He has been a proven scorer at every level, and playing closer to home seems to be the answer.
Something was just telling me that it might not be the best situation to put him in with so much talent chomping at the bit for the big PP and top six minutes. That sort of thing sometimes opens the door to brooding, but I know it can often be the challenge that brings out the best in players as well.
It was one of the real positives this past season seeing Anderson welcomed into the Sea Dogs' fold. A few teams would have shut that door, but the Sea Dogs put out the welcome mat.
Goaltending - I don't know. I think your go to guy towards the future needs to play more than 15 games or so in a shortened season, but that's just my opinion. For sure, having a mentor is important, and players definitely learn the most from other players.
Rumours are definitely rumours until they happen. You obviously have some inside info that has made the Chris Inniss rumour reality. He's never scored more than 2 goals in a season at any level, but wearing an 'A' as an 18 year-old with Rimouski speaks for itself. They definitely need to add a couple of good 2001 players into the mix.
