Jack Bauer - I, for one, wasn't suggesting you were being petty or taking a shot.
My post was merely to point out that the Sea Dogs track record - at least from 2010 thru 2019 - in no way reflects that they "always get NCAA kids to sign". Even in 2019, Trevor and Anthony drafted 5-6 players that may never even cross the Canada-US border.
To reiterate one of my key points - which does align with what you're generally saying - Trevor Georgie and Anthony Stella have done very well at recruiting high-end players.
And, yes, that does put the Sea Dogs in a group including teams such as Rimouski, Quebec, Moncton, Halifax and likely a couple other teams. It would be interesting to see some stats on percentage of players signed after playing a NCAA card.

Good read here from Craig Eagles on Reynolds impact.. fdspodcastnetwork.com/2020/05/11/the-reynolds-factor/THE REYNOLDS FACTOR May 11, 2020 Craig Eagles @eags37 InFocus with Craig Eagles Leave a comment The Reynolds Factor Peter Reynolds is coming home. The Saint John Sea Dogs have landed arguably one of the top 17 year old forwards in the CHL. You can look at Reynolds numbers or you can look at the impact he will have at the QMJHL level. This is a game changer for the Sea Dogs organization. Reynolds addition signifies a potential desire to make back to back runs at a championship. With so much uncertainty surrounding the start of the season it’s clear the Sea Dogs have locked in another vital piece to what they believe to be a championship caliber team. The Sea Dogs have a massive decision to make regarding the 3rd pick overall in this years QMJHL Draft. I recently spoke to one QMJHL team’s executive regarding the 3rd overall selection. Would you trade the pick if you were the Dogs? Their answer was clear and very poignant. “No, you make the pick.” “There might not even be a season,” they said. Do the Sea Dogs trade the pick to acquire two impact veterans for this season and next? With all the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming season and trade period and number of games being played the Dogs could also decide to make the pick and potentially trade it after the fact. If the Dogs were to make a strong run at a potential championship run for the upcoming season a possible trade partner could be come from their arch rivals the Moncton Wildcats. If the Sea Dogs believe they have enough to go back to back they may look to acquire Jakob Pelletier or Jordan Spence from the Cats. If they were seriously considering going all in this upcoming season they could in fact try to land both. There’s also rumours circulating that Cam MacDonald may potentially be opting out of the NCAA route as well. The addition of Peter Reynolds changes everything for the Saint John Sea Dogs. Should the @sjseadogs Consider Trading the 3rd overall pick? @qmjhl #2020QMJHLDraft #FDSHockey The Dogs still haven’t made an official announcement regarding their Head Coaching situation and if they have visions of going back to back they would also have to solidify their goaltending. COVID-19 is just one of many factors in Peter Reynolds decision to sign with @sjseadogs. 17 yr old Fredericton native de-committs to Boston College. #2021NHLDraft prospect is massive addition. @qmjhl @jeffmarek @chlhockey #SportsandMoore bit.ly/3fGPg5B The Peter Reynolds factor drastically changes everything for the Saint John Sea Dogs, but now more than ever asset management will ultimately determine the organization’s destiny.

Better not see SJ fans whine the next time Quebec, Moncton or Halifax get a guy to report. But its a vicious circle. SJ lands players like this, fans from those other teams bitch. SJ fans get angry. Then when SJ is rebuilding and say Halifax for example lands players like this, SJ fans bitch to pay back those Halifax fans that bashed SJ for landing players like they just did themselves. Back in the day I do think SJ rolled out a few truckloads of cash during the Huberdeau/Durepos/Coyle/Galiev eras. I'm sure other bigtime teams probably have done so at some point as well. Now though I think its an established tradition of winning for most of those teams. SJ has proven that once or twice every 5 years or so, they will have a stacked team with a shot to win everything. Thus if you're a highly regarded player that is going to be age 18-19-20 when SJ will peak...you likely want to be in SJ. Same for the other big markets you mentioned.... ....except big market Moncton. Moncton never wins shit and does not have and never will have a tradition of winning. They always choke. There is an entire thread on their board about their "bad luck". I call it "bad choices". It then causes Mr. Irving to throw more money at the problem, and when he keeps losing, go into a fit of rage that has him screaming like a maniac and hanging off the glass shouting down at the bench until he becomes such a bitter old man that he starts parking in handicapped spots and no parking zones at other teams rinks.

It would be interesting to see some stats on percentage of players signed after playing a NCAA card. To me that's the only thing it's about: bringing in those high-end players. And it also pushes other potential NCAA guys who might not be as vocal to look at SJ and the Q more seriously. People might hate that in terms of jealousy but that's how every team should be run in terms of attracting players. There shouldn't be penalty, or pettiness, directed at that. I guess my view is as a fan you should rise above the 1 loud idiot who is petty but also isn't worth being heard. You should want your big market team, spending wise, taking home run swings at the draft. Who cares how many kids you have playing Jr A? You can almost always find a comparable and younger player for free once you get into those undrafted or very late round picks.

Did MacDonald come for 48 hours last year like Reynolds did?

Good luck to the coach trying to keep all these skilled guys happy with their ice time...
Sure it looks great now, but could end up being a nightmare. You guys will be fun to watch for the next couple years for sure.

If Ryan Greene won’t sign with the Islanders maybe Hulton will trade his rights to SeaDogs. They may have an Easier time convincing him and he fits right in the age group.
