its not like they were playing the NCAA card so them playing in exhibiton games and being sent back at 16 isn't surprising at all Well.....I assume Casey was playing the NCAA card. He went to a private school in the states as is the case for many NCAA hopefuls. While he wasn't committed necessarily, it makes for a bargaining chip before playing an exhibition game which immediately eliminates NCAA for the future. My guess is they've signed him for the future (if not this year), and its costing them schooling. I heard Casey and Iasenza were signed for next year.

So Casey gets sent to jr a....no real surprise there, he ll play next year. Are we assuming thomasini and Daniel made the team? I can’t see them being picked over some of the guys already released.....

Nathan Casey was released after yesterday's game.
Their 25-player roster is finalized. It appears as if they're going with 3 Goalies, 7 Defense and 15 Forwards.

That’s pretty surprising based on some performances at camp. Must have had guys signed before camp and just didn’t release the news officially.

That’s pretty surprising based on some performances at camp. Must have had guys signed before camp and just didn’t release the news officially. Care to provide some examples? I think naming names may not be the best idea. I’ll say this.... I understand to get FAs to report you may have to sign some. However, guys who are not committed to an NCAA school would likely try out without signing them, as they’re own major junior team isn’t offering them a tryout and they haven’t secured NCAA commits so really they have an opportunity and not a lot to lose as far as bargaining power goes. I think there’s been a player who has been the softest of the bunch the past two games, and I’m not sure what role they’re supposed to fill. I highly doubt it’s strong offense and their crash and bang game isn’t there, so I was surprised. They had quite a few turnovers/errant passes etc. I assume they signed pre camp(like others). I understand sometimes it’s the agent selling the kids, or connections and I get that. Again, to pre sign (when not needing to) is what I have the issue with seeing as there are kids inside the maritime bubble who could/have outplayed them. I’m also hearing Someone may have a longer term injury. While I understand holding then if they were from away because of the logistical nightmare that is Covid-19, I’m surprised they would sign him. Having him readily available for call ups etc isn’t an issue, so again just a little surprised if that in fact is the final roster. Thought he would be in a situation where he’d be sent to develop and used as a call up/AP. Desrosier is a prime example of this. He wasn’t cut because he wasn’t good enough, he’s just easily accessible, so no need to put on roster. He’ll get more development and ice in midget/jr a. That’s straight from hodge in the journal. On another note I find the last couple games they got pushed around physically. I get it’s pre season and a rebuild but usually there’s a line that is out hitting, battling hard, and making people pay for position and pucks. Seems like as of now there’s 4 lines of the same style player, and I can’t see Hudson being used on the “4th” line in that role. Maybe the players are there they just haven’t found the right combos yet. I know it’s early but I think they’re going to get pushed around a lot this year without a line of those types of players. I think in order to be successful you need a mix. Maybe I’m wrong.

I think in order to be successful you need a mix. Maybe I’m wrong. It’s a rebuilding season for the Wildcats. They have the luxury of time to try and develop some players that their scouts have identified as potential late bloomers. They have had a pretty solid track record in the past for picking out these types of players who have been looked over by other leagues and turning them into contributors. This was a unique training camp with the mandatory quarantine and the smaller roster size limit in place but I think the team’s past success with these types of players should afford them some trust from their fans and some patience for their coaches to get some time to work with their players. They probably won’t all turn out but these are swings you can take when you are entering a rebuild. Maybe a local player outperformed a free agent from away during the preseason but the team could also see a higher ceiling that they want to try helping that player reach.

It's really too bad Hopkins and Rozzi aren't here. It looks like there would have been plenty of ice time for them.

While it is not always 100% fair to the kids involved, what the Cats are doing makes sense from a depth chart management perspective. I am pretty sure that when you invite an FA to camp, the player has the option of once again being an FA if released prior to signing a card for the season. So if you sign an FA, and cut one of your own drafted prospects, that drafted player remains on your list and can be recalled later on if the FA doesn't work out, injuries arise, trades, etc. On the other hand, if you keep your own local drafted player and cut the FA, the FA is normally gone off your protected list and your overall depth suffers. It is similar to how MLB teams play games with players who still have options remaining.

Yeah you’re probably right. I mean with your local Atlantic bubble kids you draft, you own them. There’s nothing they can do, so you have them at your disposal, and with the FAs once gone they’re gone. It’s just unfortunate for those guys that likely should be there to lose a spot, because of Covid/quarantine rules etc.
