This kid just put up 28 points in 15 games as a 15yo in the WHL. He has scored multiple highlight-reel goals in the U18 world championship.
I don't think I've ever seen a player as good as him as young. He might be ahead of where Nathan MacKinnon was at 16.. as a 15 year old. Crosby was doing this stuff at 16. I hope Regina has a full season next year just to see what this kid can do in a full schedule. He's a lock to play in the World Jrs next year as a 16yo IMO.

Him and Wright should both be at the WJC next year. They’re the 2 best players on the U18 team right now and I don’t see any reason to not send them. Both are phenomenal.

Yah any other year it'd be Shane Wright that every would be talking about.. dominating as an under-ager as well. And as good as Bedard is, he isn't even the current runaway favorite for 1st overall in his draft year, with 16yo late-birthday Matvei Michkov in there as well.

"He's a lock to play in the World Jrs next year as a 16yo IMO." Unless the coach is Steve Spott. He will get on because he is one of the few non draft year junior players to be talked about this pandemic. One thing he will never do that MacKinnon did is ride the pine at the WJC and still get drafted #1 overall 6 months later. If an NHL team is thinking of tanking 2022-23 would be an excellent time to do it if Bedard is the prize.

Bedard was amazing last night. Since the tournament was 15 minutes away from my home and I'm fully vaccinated I took in the gold medal game.
Bedard is a skaking highlight reel with the puck, but watching him without the puck was just as fun. He has amazing awareness of the ice. Based on this tourney, he does look ahead of where Nate was at 16 (and yes Bedard is a year younger). Michkov is an unreal sniper but for overall game Bedard looks to have that, while Michkov is the type of guy who just gets himself in scoring lanes and has a wicked release. The run for #1 overall between them should be fun to watch.
That was also the most talented team that Canada will probably ever send to the U18's...since the W and O were shutdown and they were a treat to watch.

Also if l'hereux is suspended in Q right now and he is for 4 more games would he have been eligible to play that event? Do they honor the Q suspension 🤔

This kid might be the best 16yo junior hockey player I've ever seen. Imagine if he played in the last 90s early 2000s.

while i'm sure he's great ... i know he is
and yeah that is a very nice goal
that goal doesn't make him the greatest 16 year old player ever.... sometimes we (hockey fans) get way too amped up on recency bias

His junior points per game average this year is lower than Connor McDavid's was at the same age. The world jrs doesn't really factor in since his good game was against lesser opposition. But in terms of what he's shown, he's the most dynamic skater and shooter I've seen as a 16 year old. I had the privilege of watching Nathan MacKinnon when he was 16, and as good as Nate was, Bedard is one step above. I'm not basing that statement on one goal. I know polarizing statements like "the best" are always subjective. But he's a generational talent.

I wonder if the game changing at the lower levels leads to a generational talent who has issues applying the skill against men once he hits the highest level. It seems like we're almost spoiled by so many amazing players who manage to step in as if they're veteran scorers who get that generational label. But for the last 20 years or so all have come in and looked amazing for the most part.

His junior points per game average this year is lower than Connor McDavid's was at the same age. This isn't totally accurate. If you look at their 15 & 16 year old season then Bedard is ahead of McDavid in points per game: Bedard: 48 36 37 73 1.52 McDavid: 119 53 112 165 1.39 In their 16 year old season McDavid had more PPG but Bedard is well ahead in Goals PG. Breakdown of 16 year old season (since Nate and Crosby didn't play at 15): Name | GP | G | A | PT | PPG | Bedard | 33 | 24 | 21 | 45 | 1.36 | McDavid | 56 | 28 | 71 | 99 | 1.76 | MacKinnon | 58 | 31 | 47 | 78 | 1.34 | Crosby | 59 | 54 | 81 | 135 | 2.23 |
Crosby was off the charts, but Bedard is right there with these generational talents. Bedard's 16 year old numbers will most likely improve as well, where he will be above MacKinnon but doubt he catches McDavid's points, but will pass both Nate and McDavid's 16 year old goal numbers.

It's going back awhile - but a crew-cut kid named Bobby Orr also had great 15 and 16 year-old seasons in Major Junior.
(15) 1963–64 Oshawa Generals OHA 56 29 43 72 142 (16) 1964–65 Oshawa Generals OHA 56 34 59 93 112
A generation later - Wayne Gretzky put up numbers for a 16 year-old in Major Junior that might never be equalled:
(16) 1977–78 Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds OMJHL 64 70 112 182 14
Bedard has fantastic offensive instincts. He'd look pretty good wearing red, white and blue.
