One of the more interesting things to me in the acadie nouvelle article posted in the draft picks thread was that if we can't convince the guy we want 3rd Overall in the import draft to report we're open to the idea of having Ivan return as both a Euro and a Twenty which I don't think the Eagles have ever done before. Something tells me Jan Piskacek was here as an overager.

I would think if there was an attractive pro deal available outside of NA for Ivan, it would be on the table now and likely in place, maybe not. Assuming he will place in Edmonton in Aug and then make his way east to Cape Breton, hopefully with a stop a pro camp somewhere along the way.

After Hal's and Jack's responses I decided to check the 20yo Euro thing and while the Eagles have actually done it before to my surprise it's pretty rare for them.
F - Jakub Culek 12-13 D - Jan Piskacek 09-10 F - Artem Rybin 99-00 D - Bard Sorlie 97-98
I'm not surprised I don't remember Sorlie or Rybin as I was only a young child at the time, Culek only played 9 games as an Eagle and the 12-13 season was our worst as a franchise until this season so can't say I'm surprised I forgot about him either, but the fact I forgot Jan Piskacek played here as a 20 when Jan was one of my favourite players growing up shocks me.
So in the end if the Eagle can't get their guy in the Import draft and Ivan returns he'd only be the 5th Euro in Eagles history to play as a 20-year old.

Culek was so talented but arrived here as Damaged Goods and was shut down....... like JEagle said after 9 games .

Ideally I think we'd all love to see a home run with the 3rd overall Euro pick and bring in a 17yr old to grow with the group but to have insurance in case something happens is nice and if the 3rd overall reports we may get a pick in return for Ivan from someone else.

The key thing out of all this for me was to see a commitment to a proper rebuild and everything i'm hearing is that the plan is to do that and also get the GM around the team and around the community more. Some things we lacked that should help create some culture change in a positive way.

Great post as always JB. Totally agree with you on this! Should be interesting to see how it all plays out. I saw a post on here saying there hasn't been this much excitement in awhile and I have to agree with that as well. Hopefully we are turning a corner and build a proper culture and major junior hockey program to be proud of again.

Add another rumour to the pile, this was shared in the Wildcats 22/23 Line-up thread
Rough translation: Thomas Belgarde of the Titan is in great demand! He will be one of the best 20-year olds in the Q next year! The Drakkar, Eagles and Wildcats have reportedly shown great interest in him to new Titan GM Jason Clarke.

Assuming Lawrence is a done deal and Biakabutuka on the back end...we would need to lose Ivan to get him. The price would have to be really good...and with 3 teams chasing him, he will cost more then we need to spend.

I agree, if Lawrence and Biakabutuka end up here and assuming we get our guy third overall in the import draft and Ivan is done here I'd rather keep Camp or Rodzinski as the 3rd 20yo.
I mean it's not like we're expecting to contend next season so why spend more assets then we're already giving up in the Lawrence and Biakabutuka trades to strengthen the 20's when a Lawrence, Biakabutuka, Camp combo or a Lawrence, Biakabutuka and Rodzinski combo would be efficient enough as 20's

It was stated at the last trade deadline that CB would keep the SJ 1st in '24. It wouldn't make much sense for the Eagles to move the 11th or 19th pick for a 20 this year. I don't see Lawrence being dealt for anything less.
