The dates for round 2 have been announced and since we know we will have home ice advantage, the Islanders have announced ticket sales for game #1 and game #2
Game 1 will be held Sunday, May 15 at 3:00 PM and game 2 is Monday, May 16 at 7:00 PM.
The opponent will be determined once the first round matchups are complete. We've got Bathurst and Halifax going with game #4 tonight and game #5 tomorrow if necessary. Rimouski and Saint John will play game #5 in Saint John on Thursday.

Crazy to think that there's a reasonable enough chance we don't get Saint John.
In the end we get who we get, but I like the idea of facing Bathurst or Halifax more than a big team like Saint John.

Halifax chance was last night.... i sadly think Bathurst rolls them in game 5 I also am not expecting Rimouski to match their upset performance from game 4 tonight..... but i'll be hoping i am still fully expecting SJ in round two starting Sunday

It would be foolish to expect anything other than a matchup against Saint John. Rimouski in game 4 was playing at home and it seemed to be the combination of their hot goalie and the big guns on SJ's offense going cold.
In addition, SJ was missing Poirier on the blueline and Ryan Francis up front. If they have those two guys in, they are a different team.... plus I can't imagine guys like Dufour, Burns, Lawrence, etc. to stay cold for a second straight night.
For Halifax/Bathurst...the outcome does not impact our series, but is definitely interesting to see what will happen. It will be a big upset if the Mooseheads win. I feel their best chance was last night.... but who knows.
We can't count on anything until the games are played. In a deciding game anything can happen. It will be a very interesting night on the Q schedule for sure!
***just noticing they moved the Hfx-Bat game to Friday night....which is an unconventional move.... but probably a smart one, giving the length of time they played last night! We wait one more night to see how that plays out.

---- Rimouski already won once in SJ the same way in game 1. And no we never can imagine a team of too much firepower staying cold. But they are cold because of how Rimouski isn't lighting the ignition on them. Keeping them cold. Oceanic need to hang onto that edge as long as possible.
They are only human and can lose. They can take the other team lightly and that's why in this situation. Also things get in your head. Meanwhile, Rimouski just needs to play discipline and leave it all out there. It's not such a big hill when it all comes down to one game.

The Rimouski/Saint John matchup is fascinating on a lot of levels. I haven't watched any of the hockey, but I'm paying close attention for the implications it has on our second round matchup
Saint John was just red hot to finish the regular season. They were on a 15-0 run..... but that success rate has not continued into the playoffs. To what extent has Rimouski's strong play been the force that has slowed them down.... well there is no way to completely answer that question.
Rimouski (and Serge Beausoleil) has a reputation of being able to force a first round upset. There's nothing scientific about that that you can use in analysis of what's going on in this series.... but he's a great coach and they have a strong defensive structure. At this point, they obviously have some strategies that they've used to slow the Sea Dogs down.... because the fact that they're at game 5 vs. this opponent means that their defensive strategies are working.
While Saint John will want to win the series and advance on their own merit, they are playing in a totally different context in game 5 than Rimouski, Bathust, or Halifax. A loss tonight for Saint John and their season continues in a unique fashion....they rest, practice and prepare for the Memorial Cup.
Every team will say they want to avoid the "back door" entry into the tournament. But there sure is a lot to be said for being able to take some time off to rest, heal injuries, and work on different facets of the game to prepare for the Memorial Cup tournament. The nature of the Memorial Cup (short tournament with little room for error) means you take a completely different approach to winning that than you would to winning a 7 (or 5) game series.
If I were a coach of a host team heading into a tournament like that, honestly I'd probably welcome a little time off to working on what I've mentioned above. Now, there's a narrow window there. I for sure would not want to be off for as long as Saint John will be off should they lose tonight. Plus, there's bit of an embarrassment associated with losing to lesser opponent in a first round matchup. Saint John will definitely be looking to avoid the label associated with that.
The likely outcome for tonight's game is that Saint John wins fairly easily. But the fact that they are in this position means that is easier said than done. Given how Rimouski won game #4, they have to be in Saint John's heads to an extent. Rimouski has a tremendous opportunity here and they just have to pick up right where they left off at the end of game #4.
