Who would we acquire from them that would beat Gatineau or Halifax? I can't see Gauthier being apart of the deal considering he's still only 17, (but then again L'Heureux went in the Moncton/Halifax trade for McIsaac + Groulx). Justin Gill as an OA next year is another decent addition but unless we get Gauthier + picks I think Gatineau and Halifax has better offers. They also don't really have any notable high-end prospects. This guy seems like he is doing ok this yr: www.eliteprospects.com/player/711588/coen-millerSmart enough to play in the Q now. hmmm could be an interesting prospect to go after as well. Plus another maritime product.

I heard on the news that Halifax made some big moves today. I don't have the details Unless the players are 20 YO or euros, no big trade “officially “ ie. can’t be announced and players can’t move.

It was on CBC radio on Friday but there's no confirmation of the Moose site.

It was on CBC radio on Friday but there's no confirmation of the Moose site. If it’s a North American player 19YO or younger no trade can be announced (or confirmed) on any team site until the official trade period opens.

So we all know that Kidney and Melanson are likely on their way out in the coming weeks. But who else on this team is up for grabs?
Allison stands out as a potential OA move to get some value back. But other than him I'm not sure if there's much of a market for anyone else? Riley Pitt and Nolan Forster are 19 YO's but they don't have much value and I can't see them returning as OA's next year either.
Cole Larkin is another that could potentially move but most contenders will be looking for big ticket OA's and Larkin is the captain and helping the young blueline could be more beneficial than moving him.
Unsure on how long Bednar is out but will a team take a struggling goalie who takes up an OA and a Euro slot? Doubtful. I feel for him too being NHL drafted and the talent is there, he would do well on a contender.
building around the 2005/2006 group seems to be the likely route.
What I'd like to see us get if we were to move all 3 of Kidney/Melanson/Allison is something along the lines of:
3 1st round picks. 2 roster players/futures 2nd/3rd round picks. 1-2 good prospects.
Kidney is definitely the biggest fish on the market so we have to maximize what we acquire for him and I think it starts with around 4 assets.

Not sure there is a big market for Allison, there are a lot of other OA's who could move with higher profiles on D and in nets. That being said, Kidney and Melanson should be worth the equivalent of two 1st rounders each plus a sweetener...so basically 4 x 1st rd and a 3rd and a 4th...obviously these assets could be established young players, prospects or picks or a combination.

Well Allison does have 30 points in 28 games and he's the 4th highest point producer among OA's for teams that are likely sellers. I can see something like a 2nd + 4th from a team like Victoriaville to add some depth. only Doucet, Veilleitte, and McCallum seem to be more likely targets above him. The amount of valuable OA's out there aren't that high. I compare Kidney and Melanson to the value of Lapierre and others from last year. 2 1sts, a 2nd or 3rd + a prospect or roster player/future is what makes the most sense. Especially Kidney where it's likely all the contenders will be calling on him and some teams could very well outbid others.

It depends how many teams buy, I was thinking we may only see 4 teams because the league is top heavy. If more jump in the guys like Allison and all the OA goalies available have a bigger market.

doesn't the trading period start around Dec06? After the last game in December at the start of the Christmas break. Last game before the Christmas break is December 17. Trade period, I believe starts December 18.

Is this the last game for Riley in a Titan sweater? I hope the team rallies around him to make it a big one. If Riley makes Team Canada, it’s my understanding that any trade made by the Titan that includes Riley cannot be officially announced by the league until the team completes the World Juniors. This approach has been followed for years now so players aren’t distracted during the tournament. Although, like galixon pointed out there are plenty of loose lips in management in Q league teams.

I find that to be a dumb rule. I can see it not being announced during the WJHC, but some players get traded during Team Canada camp a week before the tournament starts and they have to sit on it for 17-20 days.
